Ya, I don't think they really changed that much, just got better at reading the room and realizing they shouldn't poke a hornets nest.
Mike and Jay generally seem like decent people.
Rich seems like hes gonna pull a Pewdiepie on twitch any day now.
Jack is probably a racist monster who eats babies.

And Josh is so irrelevant he could probably call himself a nazi and nobody would notice or care

look, i went back through the last couple pages and nothing sticks out that clarifies what you meant with that post. i'm not gonna do homework on your post history on gaf dude. i'm really not sure what else someone is supposed to take away from that post, but i'm guessing you won't deign this worthy of a brief clarification since you're already throwing around the ol 'disingenuous' chestnut dismissal folks seem to have become so fond of recently, so i'm done with this little back and forth
I never asked you to look through my rlm/gaf thread post history. I was using it to illustrate the fact i've been consistent in my criticism of them. But yet again you're misrepresenting what i've said.

However i will clarify.
I'm sick to death of their constant diet racist, misogynist, SJWLOLOL!!!! bullshit. So much, i've virtually stopped watching all their content.

I hope that makes my position clear. If not, i'll try again.

Awww. But i like Josh. :(

Josh is just happy to be working.

And he isn't half bad at being a seat filler.
Rather have him then Jack or Rich.

The ending joke at the latest scientist man video is literally about how people overreact about SJWs and movies. "dreaded SJWs" makes that pretty clear.

And in general it'd be nice if people stop with the driveby posts and bait. But I guess that's the problem with forums in general.

That's what I took from it too. They were making fun of the trolls who attacked Kelly Marie Tran.

RLM has said a few cringey things (90% of this being Rich on twitch), but I think alot of people want to frame their attacks on Disney as attacks on progressive politics because they've identified too closely with the brands Disney has cultivated. RLM is more fucking woke than most of "woke twitter" when it comes to stuff like Nerd Crew.

My impression has been that their "anti-diveristy" comments (I haven't watched Pre-Rec enough to catch comments there) are deriding what they consider to be disingenuous corporate virtue signaling, which is consistent with the anti-corporate slant of their criticism generally.

I feel you and I apologize for being a jerk, but I don't think asking for clarification in a topic where your comments are apparently being misconstrued is a giant ask.

It seems like Jack is more willing now to stand up and say he's not happy with what's going on (huh, and he's the one member of the group with kids...whodathunk?) GOOD!

There is a difference in the people you vote for. Candidates are often not perfect but they can add to a bigger picture. I'm hopeful that we can get over some of the petty bullshit from 2016. Good luck everybody.

I wish I knew how to subtweet because someone replied "I am sending this tweet back in time to that stream from Oct 2016 when Rich was all "they're the saaaaaaaaame"" and Jack replied "Yeah..."

IIRC, Rich never said "they're the same", he said that one is crazy, and the other is entitled. And that he refuses to play the "pick your poison" game. He refused to concede that one poison was objectively better than the other, because he feels like his vote is a positive endorsement, and he can't bring himself to support what he sees as poison.

He wasn't pro-Trump, he was anti-Hillary (in addition to being anti-Trump), so pushing a stronger anti-Trump message wouldn't do much to change his mind about Hillary (although I suppose it's possible, if the argument is extreme enough, although you run the risk of being ignored as hyperbolic). Trump had already lost Rich's vote.

Seems like the better way for someone with a time machine to secure Rich's support would be to ask Hillary to make at least one stop in Wisconsin, rather than ignoring the state because she expects to win it by a healthy margin.

I've always seen RLM as more left leaning and yeah, they've made a few eyebrow raising comments here and there, but I don't think it's enough to call them deplorable. Most of the time they're just cynical movie critics doing a comedy review show, and any political commentary they plug in is never egregious and is more times than not progressive. I've always disagreed with cutting people out over a few questionable comments when it's obvious they're good people. Yeah, some middle-aged men from Milwaukee aren't a shining bastion of liberal progressiveness. No surprise there. But they clearly aren't bad people, and maybe cutting them out because they don't pass a purity test with a perfect score isn't a good idea when there is a big base on the internet that are actually deplorable who would just love to barrage their comments sections with racist shit.

I think it's because at least Rich (since he's the only one who talks the most of the three RLM people) isn't interesting in growing, and he's perfectly fine enjoying his white privilege where he thinks it's annoying people keep bringing up silly things like "race" and "gender" which don't affect him in a meaningful manner. I mean they couldn't make one video without mentioning "SJWs" because they just don't want to let it go.

Clearly going to the upper Midwest states multiple times would have been a smart move for the Clinton campaign (or at least removed that as a reason she lost). Does Hillary take the blame for not being a great candidate and running a bad campaign? Sure.

But that wasn't the point of Jack's tweet. He said "Candidates are often not perfect but they can add to a bigger picture. I'm hopeful that we can get over some of the petty bullshit from 2016." Whether Rich said "they're the same" or he said "Hillary is entitled", I'd call either argument petty bullshit. That petty bullshit (and the subsequent tweet about Wisconsin's redistricting maps) led to a Trump presidency and a Congress that isn't willing to prevent the cruelty we're seeing at the border. That's the "bigger picture".

I don't know about the Pre Rec streams because I never watch them (or pretty much anything Pre-Rec, to be fair). I'm relying on folks like you and Shy (who probably doesn't watch anymore, to be fair) to provide clarity and insight into what they say there. So if I'm misconstruing Rich's argument and it's more than (what I consider) petty bullshit, then my bad.

Another point: I'm really not trying to make this into a political thread, but I thought that, after the discussion on the last page or so, it would be worthwhile to post Jack's tweets. I think it also adds a little bit of color to his personality for those who don't watch the streams. It's pretty clear how Josh and Jack feel about these issues from their tweets, but it's harder to get a read on Mike (who, to my knowledge, doesn't tweet) and Jay (even though Jay is active on Twitter, I don't think I've ever seen him tweet politically...). And depending on whether you watch or don't watch the streams, Rich's take on this stuff.

So the whole fixation on SJWs in multiple videos makes it difficult to pick up on whether it's a joke or not, how sensitive they are to these things (not at all, apparently), and so on (like firehawk12 said), because you don't know where they're coming from. Not that a joke can be bad or inappropriate if you have a specific worldview, but it tends to inform whether it was meant maliciously or just an ignorant goof.

So, yeah, that's my rant about things. Sorry for being so long winded. We can go back to bad movies now, if you'd like.

I feel like Jack would be more "woke" (ughhhhh) on both the streams and RLM videos but basically holds back because he doesn't want to rock the boat. And that's fair, since he's basically the guest and he would actually end up being the anti-Colin Moriarty if he started talking about left-wing politics during a Best of the Worst episode or something.

I mean, although I pretty much haven't' watched a PreRec stream in a while, I still watch their movie review stuff so I'm not so offended that I'm done with them. And they're not JonTron or PewDiePie or whatever, but they are definitely closer to the "films (or games) should just be fun!" crowd that hates the fact that people talk about identity politics when it comes to entertainment than they'd like to admit.

I was gonna make a joke about how RLM is from Wisconsin and had probably never seen a black person in real life before. Then I looked up Milwaukee's demographics and discovered the metro area is 40% black. I had no idea! That shit must be more segregated than St Louis.

Edit: I'm not surprised I missed out on Rich saying stuff that would make me side eye him. I haven't bothered with Pre-Rec or their streams after their disasterous Resident Evil 7 stream. God, what a shitshow.

I see them as fairly progressives, but they can be turned away if they sense (sometimes correctly, sometimes not, imo) that liberal values are used as a marketing tool by corporations.
I think the biggest example is Ghosbusters reboot. Did they have a problem with them being women? Not really, no. But they did have a big fucking problem with Sony trying to market a cynical nostalgia cash-grab as a victory for feminism, and in my opinion, that's when they hit the mark.
But then they kind of applied the same to both Wonder Woman and Black Panther, and that's when they missed the mark. But then, this might just be me liking these two movies.

I mean, they often remark on wanting more diversity and they can celebrate it from time to time, but I think that especially Mike and Rich are kind of paranoid that something like Black Panther can even be genuine given that they are part of the Disney machine, so they fall into their anti-corporation version of "forced diversity" (which would be something like: "diversity as cynical marketing", but then if something like BP and WW are just as cynical as ghostbusters, that creates the convenient scenario where it's ok to have diversity, as long as it's not blockbusters that have the biggest cultural impact)

Yeah, I think that's where their cynicism hits a wall. I used to sympathize with that notion, but now I realize that diversity as a cynical cash grab is still overall a positive step for greater representation. If more PoCs/Women/LGBTQ folks see themselves in movies more often, it doesn't really matter if it's sincere or not. Especially when so many movies are conceived as cynical cash grabs in the first place! :D

It's time for Mike to start watching Disney Junior.

http://www.syfy.com/syfywire/disney-unveils-first-looks-at-the-rocketeer-the-owl-house
lzvaX5l.jpg

The new version of The Rocketeer, based off the Dave Stevens comic that inspired the cult classic 1991 film, follows a young girl named Kit, who gets the Rocketeer's jetpack for her birthday. Taking over the mantle, she and her best friend team up to save the world, with a little help from Kit's uncle.

Unlike the comic, this show is set in the present day. It will utilize 3D, CGI animation. And as you can see in the first image above, it leans heavily into the wonders of the sky, with Kit, wearing her new jetpack, staring out at a runway and the skies beyond it. The new cartoon is aimed at kids, airing on the Disney Junior channel, so there will likely be less two-fisted pulp action and Nazi punching in this series than in the film.

There's a few seconds of Blair Witch Project footage in the end, though

Nice gift for us dedicated fans who watch all their videos from beginning to end

Well, if the Canadians are in town, that means there's a new wheel of the worst coming.
