This update sounds amazing. I'll finally be able to trade all my extra Legendaries to my son. He's going to be thrilled!

The whole Friend system also seems like a great addition to the game. Could it be the precursor to an in-game chat? It would be nice not to have to rely on third-party apps for raid planning.

Hope your son is 13 or older. As those younger can't do trades currently. :P (Though pending verification)

(It's a legal liability thing, as you have to be there in person. So having a 8 year old boasting their signal that their nearby is big trouble)

as an aside i appreciate TrainerTipsNick taking some time out of his latest video to briefly talk about what is happening with these children of immigrants being detained, maybe giving the issue more exposure to people not necessarily paying attention to what is happening. i don't know if he reads this site or even knows it exists, but i just wanted to say it was awesome of him to do that.

I thought that was great too. More people need to know about this injustice in this stupid country.

I only really play with my girlfriend.

But this feature might encourage me to actually engage with some of the more prolific raiders I see around here.

It's cool that this is coming, but I won't be able to take advantage of this.

My new schedule means that I'll be playing this game way less often than I used to.

The trading system unfortunately isn't for me as I was only planning to trade with my brother but he lives in another state than I do.

Some of you need to go out and find your local community. Stop being so shy! :P

At very least, you can exchange gifts with each other. Maybe items too

I can understand the battle against multi accounts, but just give me three perfect friend slots. Completely free trade and stuff. Because I don't see the people that I would use the trade feature for enough to get a high level with them.

With IVs reroll, I hope not lol
It just means you trade weak instead of strong stuff, hoping it gets rolled high.

This is going to be great for filling out my shiny Dex. Now I can finally trade some of my 7 shiny Magikarps/Gyaradoses for different shinies.

The only thing I'm worried about is that the hardcore players that have the stuff I would want don't need anything I've got. Unless they just want more event shinies or special Pikachu's.

Well, more shinies always good. Baby shinies will likely be a hot commodity! Got 2 shiny Pichus, so 1 can be offered up.

You never know who might have gotten lucky and ended up hatching or catching multiples of one that you really need. I suspect most Discord servers or FB groups will have dedicated trading channels too, so you can broadcast what you are looking for and what you have to offer. If you have some rare shinies (read: non-Community Day shinies), I'm sure you'll find some takers.

Hoping to get my significant other to finally play with trading/friend system being put in.

BTW, I caught a 100% IV Articuno yesterday from the 7th day weekly research quests.

No one is going to spend 1 million stardust for a Pikachu (not sure if hatted Pikachu is considered special though.) What's more likely to happen is that the raid groups will want to increase their friendships to get those bonuses. Since the limit for raising friendship is once a day, it might take a while. For casual players, you can gift your friends and hopefully decrease the stardust cost that way. Trading is pretty prohibited if you're complete strangers, which was likely the intention to prevent abuse.

I imagine some of the shittier raid groups will use this as an excuse to be douchier/more exclusive, lol.

But damn, they dropped that one out of no where, nice. Can't wait. Will be really nice to get that boost with my girlfriend.

I feel like there were some things I was supposed to trade her but I don't remember what, haha.

Not really interested in trading to be honest. I'm mostly someone who tries to fill out the pokedex and grind out medals and the type bonus stuff. I don't have any IRL friends that play anymore. It's cool for those who will use it though. 40k dust after 90 days is still an incredible price to pay.

my whale hunt is complete. got a shiny to go with my 100.
i'm at 23/26 on kyogre since it came back. far better than < 50% first time around

i'm done. just gonna ride out the rest of the water festival
please bring back rayquaza next

---

i like what they're doing with trading. it preserves the spirit of the game and prevents it from being abused as a game breaking mechanic. it's gonna be a nice novelty so i don't see myself going nuts with trading and that's ok.

Am I correct in thinking that if a shiny has rubbish stats, it's rubbish? I have a few that I'm never going to use due to their stats so I might dump them, just want to check there's no other reason to hang onto them?

A Shiny Tyranitar with rubbish stats is still a powerhouse. A Shiny Charizard with excellent stats is still worthless for combat.

People don't realise that IVs don't actually factor in that much. People focus too much on CP when CP is irrelevant and just a calculation of stats. Stats are what matters, not CP

Sorry I kinda worded that badly, I mean that there's no other bonus attribute or boosts apart from their different color, cheers for the replies. Into the bin they go!

I'm friends with them and they are usually friendly. I'm sure they will give me the stuff that I need that they have an excess of.

Im excited for this feature and I'm glad it's not a free for all. I really like the local only trading aspect of this. I hope the main games implement that as well.

If you only manage to catch like 1 or 2 of something that is meta relevant, sure, use what you have. But when we're talking catching things by the hundreds, it absolutely makes sense to start using stats to weed out which are better than others. Context matters.

On a long enough timeline, if you keep only the one with highest CP, you'll end up on a 100% level 35. Don't need to see if that level 15 Pidgey is 100% as you'll never level it up anyway.

If it wasn't so easy to scan IV's on Android I probably wouldn't keep my 100 Pidgey etc, but it is, and I like having a 100 collection, even if it doesn't really mean anything. It would be different if I was on IOS.
