That's actually a pretty sweet deal. If I had AMC in my city, I would've definitely jumped in. Reserving in advance is also a big deal.

$20 is probably too steep for me since I only see 1 movie a month (except for the 3 months of blockbuster season, in which case it's probably 2).

Needs a tiered family plan (2 people costs 40, 3 people 55, 4 people 73, etc.).

With reserved seating being the rage, what always kept me from movie pass was having to physically be close to the theatre meaning unless driving out hours (days for a popular movie) in advance to ensure a decent seat.

I thought the same about moviepass, but everyone I know who's gotten a moviepass started seeing far more movies as a consequence, even though they were already saving money with their normal viewing habits.

Man, I would be all over this if there were any AMC theaters near me. It'd be cool to see MoviePass introduce a premium tier for Regal/Cinemark that included premium formats.

This is a good deal. The Dolby Cinema movies cost $22 dollars here so getting this is already cheaper than that price.

Damn, I wish Cinemark's deal was like this one. The AMC's near me are shitty as hell compared to the Cinemark's.

Sounds interesting but in order to make this worthwhile I'd have to see at least 17 movies a year(if my math is right lol)...which I don't think would happen no matter how cheap I could get in for

However, some AMCs have removed MoviePass from its listings.

I see that happening more and more now that AMC has this deal.

I remember that Cinemark had a terrible subscription plan that they came up with after MoviePass caught the public imagination.

Uh... what? How did AMC remove Their listings from MoviePass? Are you sure you don't have that the other way around (MoviePass removed some AMC theaters earlier in the year but added them back later).

it really just depends on how much Dolby/IMAX tickets are for your area, and how many movies you really want to see every year in those formats.

In New York for example IMAX tickets run like $25 I think, so just seeing ONE movie per month in that area pays for this sub easily. In my area daytime Dolby/IMAX tickets run ~$14 each so just seeing two movies every month pays for itself.

Which is super easy, for July/August/Sept I've got

June 30 - Soldado
July 6 - Ant Man & Wasp
July 13 - Skyscraper (The Rock)
July 20 - Equalizer 2 / Mamma Mia 2
July 27 - Mission Impossible Fallout
Aug 10 - The Meg
Aug 17 - Happytime Murders (puppet murder mystery)
Sep 14 - Predator

It definitely starts slowing down by late fall but usually there are at least 2 movies every month I'd be interested in seeing. Not much more honestly though, I am not a huge indie / artsy movie kinda guy.

I see. I thought it was that AMC blocked MP on some of its theaters.

In any case, I don't see why it wouldn't be possible if AMC offers their own subscription plan.

this is a fucking STEAL if you live near the Metreon in SF. every ticket is at least $20 and the imax/dolby screens are amazing.

MoviePass would never work for me because of the requirement to be at the theater when buying tickets. I don't have time for "are seats available", and picking seats ahead of time is the fuckin best.

I could see me and my wife using this, but the AMC in downtown Seattle doesn't have reserved seating/recliners (actually newish to the area, if there is a good AMC in Seattle, let me know!). Will hop on a Regal equivalent when they jump in.

I might bite on this.

The worst thing about MoviePass is that you can't book tickets online in advance. Sometimes the only seats left by the time you get to the theater are the worst ones. And for big releases like Incredibles and Deadpool, I end up having to pay out of pocket so I can sit with my friends and not in random seats totally across the theater.

The two AMC theaters near me are probably their top 10 theaters when it comes to cleanliness, technology and screens. I would miss seeing indie films at smaller theaters though.

Pro tip: reserve your seat ahead of time online so that you can sit by your friends, go to the theater day of, cancel seat reservation with your smart phone while standing next to ticket kiosk, check in with movie pass app to that movie, and use movie pass to purchase reserved seat you just moments before got a refund on.

You wind up paying the 1 dollar fee to hold the seat since it is non refundable and that's it.

Works like a charm for every popular movie on opening day.

No, it blocked eticketing but that wasn't widely available anyways.

Movie Pass was the one that blocked the top 10 most popular AMC theaters in an attempt to prove that customers would take their business elsewhere and get AMC to make a deal with them. I believe that ended though because I see 1 of the theaters in the app.

I need an option to buy two tickets with a membership for me and my wife. I'm not paying $40 per month for two memberships.

Moviepass did its job hurray. I hope they don't pull this out once moviepass goes out of business.

I'll stick to $5 Tuesdays at the Alamo Drafthouse. I can't remember the last time I had a good experience at any other theater.

Seems like a solid deal. Just dropped $30 to watch Incredibles 2 with my son over the weekend. This would have paid for itself and then some.

Probably the Cinemark one since there's two near me.
I jumped on the Cinemark program last month, but there's an AMC the same distance from me as a Cinemark; I feel like the AMC program is clearly the better of the two.

This is amazing. Glad AMC was the first to jump into the sub game. (Cinemark's offering is weak compared to this)
Yeah, AMC is making Cinemark look like chumps.

Also, and I can't speak for anyone else's experiences, but the AMC by me has much better popcorn than Cinemamark. I always need a pop and a tub of popcorn with my movies, so that's a huge factor for me.

Yeh, signing up with this as soon as MoviePass is no more or they add some more dumb rules, here amc makes up like 80% of the theatres so it's worth it for me, and no more dumb no repeat rules.

I have an AMC theater with Dolby Cinema 5 min away from work.

Should I go for it?

I can get a year's worth of value in one month.

No NE TN. In my area it always seemed like once another big chained opened a location the Carmikes in the area immediately became dumps. None ever really tried to keep up and AMC seems fine the way keeping them as "Classic" venues.

I haven't lived in Johnson City for awhile, but is that an AMC or Carmike by the mall (I assume you are from the Tri-Cities)? You would think since Regal headquarters are right up in the road in Knoxville that the area would have more Regals.

Yeah I was born there. That one's a former Carmike now AMC Classic. I remember that was the big theater in the Tri-Cities to see movies until Cinemark opened a Tinseltown in VA around '98.

Never understood why Regal stayed out either. Maybe the area wasn't financially feasible enough for them or they missed an opportunity window.

MoviePass just announced they're adding Surge Pricing for movies the weekend of release and other peak times, $2 extra per ticket. Only applicable to monthly subscribers

Would do it at $10 per month maybe, no way in hell enough good movies come out per year to get value out of this.

What a fuckin' steal. I pay about $25 for 2 tickets for Dolby Cinema in China, would subscribe in a heartbeat.

If only the AMCs near me weren't former crappy Carmikes.
LOL here in Birmingham we went from 0 AMCs to 6 within like 1 year.
3 Regal -> AMC
1 Regal ->
3 RAVE -> Carmike -> AMC

AMC even bought the shitty dollar theater that was 1 mile away from the former RAVE/Carmike they just bought as well

RAVE were the best theaters I had ever been to but Carmike made them awful immediately(food prices up, quality down, stopped repairing equipment quickly and stopped running AC, cut staff)
AMC has been an improvement.

I subbed on the website. But for some reason the app keeps crashing on my iPhone and iPad.

The website is fine though.

I just signed up for AMC A*List, the app apparently needs an update that will get pushed out tonight sometime on iOS/Android but the website works fine, albeit its running very slow. Signed up no problem and bought a ticket to Jurassic World 2 3D IMAX tomorrow (already saw it in dolby on friday). Will probably go, see the Island half, then leave. On the wallet page it tells me I have 1 existing A-List reservation and 2 available. The ticket was sent with a QR code by email/SMS so I can just show that in case the app isn't working well tomorrow. Its gonna be awesome getting Dolby/IMAX tickets without any extra fees or stuff.

I tried booking a second ticket for the same showing and it didn't do the A-List discount, tried a movie 1 hour before and 1 hour after and it didn't do the discount either, a movie 2 hours 30 mins after Jurassic World 2 starts correctly gave me the discount. So it looks like they have tested everything pretty decently.

Pretty happy to sign up, I'll be seeing Soldado, Uncle Drew, and Mister Rogers this weekend and Ant-Man, Skycraper, Equalizer 2, Mamma Mia 2 and Mission Impossible the rest of the month. I'm sure one or two of those I'll see twice.

Awesome. Signed up, made my wife an AMC account, and signed her up too.

We also got Ant-man tickets for Friday July 6th. It worked as well as could be expected, considering I had to use two accounts to get the tickets (just used two separate browsers to ensure that the seats would be next to one another). I would be extremely appreciative if AMC provides a Family Plan later.

After getting A-List using my PC, the AMC Theatres iOS app crashed on startup. It seems to be fine after an uninstall / reinstall of the app.

The new Apple Wallet card looks nice.

It really does almost pay for itself for a whole month with just buying one Dolby Cinema ticket. Central Florida isn't even the most expensive market for tickets out there either.
