Anyone going to the screening of Genesis of the Daleks in US cinemas tonight? I assume since it's being done to promote the blu-ray release, it'll be from the same transfer they're using for that? It'll be interesting to see how it looks on a big screen. It's also a "cinema length director's cut" version of the story, which I assume means like the omnibus versions of the stories PBS used to show back in the day. I know some hate these due to the editing etc, but they're quite nostalgic for me since that's how I saw the show as a kid, so that's a plus as well.

I went to the Genesis screening last night, which had about 50ish people there (in a huge theater). If this is the quality that the blu-ray will be, it doesn't seem like there'll be much noticeable improvement on picture quality. Still has the same blurry, cruddy picture it's always had. Of course, one's tv versus a huge movie screen might make a difference. There was a new interview with Tom Baker played afterward which I assume is from the upcoming set. Tom was a pleasure to listen to as always.

I think it would be a bit much to expect high quality transfer from material that was originally intended for home consumption on 1970s analogue television sets with a 625 line PAL UHF carrier. It's never going to look great on a full size cinema screen.

From the Wikipedia article:

A 1080i upscaled remaster of the story will be released on Blu-Ray in the United Kingdom by BBC Studios as part of the 'Complete Season 12' box set on 11 June 2018, and in the United States by Warner Home Video (as 'Tom Baker: Season One') on 19 June 2018; This release will contain both the original 6-episode version and the 85-minute abridged repeat. To promote the release, the repeat version (marketed as a 'Director's Cut') will be screened theatrically in the United States via Fathom Events on 11 June 2018.

By the way, to anybody reading this who had contributed to Wikipedia as an editor, even just correcting spelling, thank you.

The Brain of Morbius
I liked this one way more than I was expecting to. For an obvious Frankenstein homage and one of the most plainly gothic horror-tinged serials of Baker's run yet, it's surprisingly funny. Baker already started out so strong as the Doctor, but his performance seems to grow more and more confident with each new serial, and here, like in Pyramids, he does a great job of balancing the seriousness of the story with his aloof sense of humor, his quick and biting line deliveries, and that big toothy grin that says a lot with one look. These last two serials also show how far Liz Sladen had come too, who is just as totally in control of Sarah Jane as Baker is of the Doctor, and their chemistry together is just undeniably electric. This serial falls a little short for me in the lameness of both Morbius and the Sisterhood of Karn (the Doctor clowning on them constantly is one of the best things about this serial), although I did enjoy Salon as the main villain.

Has anyone else had this problem?

BBC iplayer apparently has every ep from 2005, but i'm blown if I can find later eps like Twice Apon a Time, the only one I don't have as either a bluray or itunes version.

I've tried the apple tv app, the LG TV app and the xbox 1 app, and none of them let me see 'twice apon a time.' Just the first eps of each season (scrubbing to the end doesn't show up the next ep). The search function only seems to work on series titles, not episodes or actors' names. Apple TV at least gets me every episode up until midway through season 6. so apple Tv shows me 80 episodes, xbox only 60 episodes and so on.

note: i can see all the episodes on a computer. just not on my big screen.

Twice Upon A Time. I found you can get to series 10 ep 1 on Apple TV if you go to the drama section, but it's all a bit unintuitive.

A bunch of BF titles on sale now for £1/story to download. It's mainly spinoffs rather than the main line, but it includes interesting oddities like the Unbound series and the Destiny of the Doctor anniversary series

It's a warehouse clearance of their CD titles, but I think what's happening is when a given CD goes out of stock, it comes in stock at £1/story for the download versions.

(It isn't half a pain to cross-reference against what I've got via Humble Bundle, mind!)

I'm so glad I read your post last night, I've been on a re-watch since! I'm up to The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances two parter, and it's still as creepy as ever!

Looking forward to series 4/5 onwards, where I've only watched most episodes once. Not looking forward to the dregs of series two.

The Twitch marathon is into Pertwee now, and, god - Sarah Jane really, really is the template for Rose (and therefore everybody who came since), isn't she? It's so striking.

I watched Season 11 recently and was surprised they immediately went back to such a Liz Shaw-like character after Jo Grant when they didn't think Liz worked out.

Very Tennant, as predicted. I think the whole era is going to whiff of a modernization of those years... Into it.
