So does my wild prediction that GoW would be the highest selling exclusive in 2018 still have a chance?

Smash and Pokémon coming up tho...
It's doing exceptionally well, but with how Switch software is performing I can see Smash taking it.

I can't remember whether the two Pokémon versions are split or combined. If they're combined, there's little doubt that it will be that.

Overall I think this is one of those months where all 3 console manufacturers can be happy, keeping in mind this is US only of course. A Microsoft game won the month, Sony and Nintendo had their own share of top 10s, and there's enough multiplatforms helping everyone. Competition is what we need.

"Switch Software sees strong growth: Nintendo Switch software sales in May generated growth of 90 percent when compared to a year ago, delivering the highest software revenues for any Nintendo platform in May since the Nintendo Wii in May 2011. Please note that The NPD Group does not currently track digital sales on Nintendo platforms."

This is crazy.

Well done to the developers of State of Decay 2!

You highlighted the wrong part. It's their best May despite not tracking digital - and they barely had any digital retail games for sale May 2011.

I'm around for questions too... I dunno, let's get weird.

Is Labo still "fine"? Top ten software for Switch seems ok given they had a great software sales month, but no numbers so who knows....oh you do.

Also, no more ranking of platform for multiplatform games? How have I not noticed this.

Great to see GoW holding strong, also DK doing well in Switch. Planning to get Detroit and SF 30th Anniversary when I'm done with God of War.

Man I'm gonna have to set aside some serious cash for Switch games if everything goes well and I end up getting one in October-November. MK8, DK, Smash, Pokémon, Zelda, Pokken, Odyssey... there's Fighterz double dip too :( stay strong, my wallet.

Seems like a really good month for all of the big three and the gaming industry in general. I wonder if God of War will ever be able to reach 17+ million copies sold like The Last of Us. It has really good legs everywhere, especially in the big markets like the US and the UK.

And people on here keep debating against me the sales of future video games. The industry is incredibly strong and you should expect games to keep breaking records and records within their own series across the board. This is the best time to BRING BACK old IP's. Now is your chance to resurrect them.

But how? I mean, really. How? I just don't get it. I would expect gamepass to make people just use gamepass and not buy the game, instead it's helping sales?

It's weird and I don't fully understand it either, tbh. But they have the data to back it up, and clearly it has a positive effect.

The same situation appears again as another MS exclusive SOT also disappeared in Magicpork's leak before...

So why only and always MS exclusive? what Magicpork got was wrong or incomplete?

Because leaks on this forum don't account for digital sales. Digital sales are a large part of the market in 2018.

But this would mean quite a huge number of gamepass subscriptions which on the other hand would mean that people can get the game for free which means less physical sales... And to imagine that it was able to do it for $30 is even more confusing to me.

Game Pass gets people to try games they wouldn't normally try since it's "free" after you have the sub. So the game gets a ton of exposure it normally wouldn't have gotten which bleeds out to non-GP subscribers thanks to all the viral hooks on Xbox (friends list, streaming, etc).

I wonder if the Dark Souls story might have been different if the Switch version had made it out day-and-date.

May this be a reminder that the Souls series is NICHE and downplaying every other game for not being as hardcore or whatever compared to the Souls games because they somehow became the epitome of gaming is the silliest of things.

Brilliant to hear of Detroit's success and if it's anything like other countries, it'll have great legs too. Guarantees another QD game and can't wait to see where they go next.

oh god, dark souls

I forgot that even released in may. looks like I'm not alone, it didn't even chart in one of the single platform rankings.

Phil Spencer said as much. They have internal data that shows Game Pass somehow helps sales overall. Can't remember exactly what he stated, but it was something along those lines. Of course plenty of arm chair analysts think they no more than him and their business model, but here we are.
He said both sea of third and state of decay sold well because gamepass acts as a natural marketing tool. You see a friend playing a game and you check it out for $10 and you like it or your friend played it on Gamepass raves about it and then you buy it. More people playing something gets people to buy

Holy crap gow, that is insane legs for a single player game. The game deserves it but who would have thought it was going to have this kind of hold, and for the year it's amazing that it's number two to far cry

Very happy that the reviews didn't tank the sales of State of Decay 2. I'm sitting and wondering how well it would have done if it scored well O_O

It's viral marketing. Everyone with an Xbox virtually has several friends with gamepass playing these games. Means they see clips or pictures etc, see their friends having fun and then buy it...

That is how Spencer explained it in his interview. He sounded as surprised as everyone else that it had boosted sales, but I'm guessing deep down they had done their projections.

Gamepass is now arguably the most important distribution model in the industry. One I'm positive Sony and Nintendo will be copying very very soon.

Excellent for Detroit. Was hoping for even higher, but I gladly take it. So so happy for Quantic, they very much deserve it for releasing their best game ever. For an interactive story type of game these sales are honestly amazing at a full $60.

It's their best May despite not tracking digital

You caught why I added that line! Yep, even assuming a small digital share... Switch software sales are doing very, very well.

Is Labo still "fine"?

I think so. I dunno. It's a weird thing. Won't really know until holiday.

Detroit already exceeded QD's previous best seller, Heavy Rain. Do you think this will continue with the legs Detroit has, meaning do you think it can keep ahead Heavy Rain in long term sales also?

Don't know.... I'm curious on this as well.

MatPiscatella Your thoughts on GoW legs and its impact as a system seller?
Being the number 2 game for 2018 sales at this point is pretty impressive although we haven't had too many heavy hitters six months in.

Having a 94 rated game >>> Not having a 94 rated game. The Pro GoW bundle did very well, and PS4 continues to thrive. Is GoW directly causing this? Maybe. But I mean it's really impossible to boil down purchase motivators to one thing like a light switch. Always a combination of factors.

Does this imply the NPD group tracks digital sales on Playstation and Xbox?

For members of the digital leader panel, yep. Only major pubs missing from digital are Bethesda and Nintendo.

Should the Padres send Villanueva to AAA?

What do you put there instead? Spangenberg is already playing every day, which is gross. Until Tatis/Urias are ready not much we can do. Wouldn't mind trading Hand and some pieces for a young 3B though.

Well to be fair Wii was already in its twilight years in 2011 (software sales were massively down yoy).
Still the best may for a Nintendo Plattform in 7 years. Wii sales might have been down but it still had quite the installed base. Switch already reaching Wii levels software wise is good to see....especially since they improved their digital performance by a lot as well.
