I was scared Switch would slow down quite a bit without big releases but

Switch Software sees strong growth: Nintendo Switch software sales in May generated growth of 90 percent when compared to a year ago, delivering the highest software revenues for any Nintendo platform in May since the Nintendo Wii in May 2011. Please note that The NPD Group does not currently track digital sales on Nintendo platforms.
Switch has a top selling SKU: The Nintendo Switch 32GB w/Neon Red/Blue JoyCon was the month's best-selling hardware SKU in both unit and dollar sales.

Somehow Nintendo still got it.[/quote]

I wouldn't be suprised if SOD2 sales are really high digitally also because Game Pass gives a discount on digital downloads.
Awsome for Undead Labs, really enjoying the game.

Happy to see Detroit do well. I know people dislike David Cage, but Detroit is a very good game that deserves all the success coming its way.

I'll explain this again;
Labo is aimed at people who have no money of their own.
It is bought solely to be gifted (outside of the number f adults who want it who do have disposable incomes, who bought at launch).
Its sales ceiling per month is basically as birthday presents for kids that have birthdays that month.
Christmas is different, because it is the equivalent of all kids getting an extra birthday that month.

This is how 'big' toy sales work
Seem like they should have released it around the holidays instead of shipping out enough to disappoint retailers and have boxes linger on their shelves for months. Makes you wonder how excited retailers will be to order more product.

Holy shit State of Decay 2. Did not see that coming!

Crazy that Donkey Kong did so well when just counting physical sales. I wonder if it would've pushed one higher if Nintendo reported digital sales?

State off decay being #1 with revenue when it's a $30 title is pretty impressive

But who do you think, by and large, is playing Donkey Kong and Mario Kart? All these games that are primarily aimed at kids have to be bought by their parents - so why is labo so special?

If a kid truly wanted a Labo, God knows it wouldn't take until Christmas for the parents to give in.

My kids are not fussed about Fortnite, certainly not my four year old. I'd say the markets are unrelated - once you're old enough to be diving in on online shooters, then you're probably past the Labo time anyway.

I'm considering Labo later in the year as it isn't something you need to be on the release window to be on and that period of the year is perfect for being in the house and being creative. Also he'll be a smidgen older by then too and just in the right mind for the game.

Do you think with the success of SoT, SoD2, and Forza 4 incoming will change the minds of some devs that were weary of putting a game on XGP?

If it doesn't it should.

how is AC Origins doing compared to other entries in the franchise? Seems healthy.

Better than recent releases, but at one point AC was one of the biggest franchises in gaming, so tough to comp to some of those massive 360/PS3 releases.

Retailers that sell toys know how the toy market works.
A shit ton better than the people expecting labo to be in an NPD chart for a year do certainly.

Yeah. Not one person I spoke with about Labo thought it would chart in summer. Expectations around it on this forum are very out of line with market.

Donkey Kong and Mario Kart aren't products 'for children', lol.
They are all ages games.

DK and Mario Kart are games aimed at everyone, not just kids, unlike Labo. Big demographic difference here : Labo is also aiming those who don't usually play video games at all.

That's what I thought I but wanted to confirm. Crazy that it didn't even make top 20 so soon after launch. Yikes.

Labo had a very muted reception. It was obviously not aimed at the core gaming audience, but it also lacked the coolness factor to draw in the expanded audience. A product without any real focus.

Colour me surprised State of Decay 2 opened at #1. Honestly, going by buzz over the month I expected God of War #1, Detroit: Become Human #2 and State of Decay #3. Regardless, all three games have done incredibly well. On the hardware front impressed by the broken records for all three console manufacturers; PS4/Pro leading on overall hardware revenue and Neon Switch leading in single SKU seems to be the growing trend in recent months though. My mind has gone blank, are there any notable releases in June?

Days Gone is gonna sell all the copies isn't it.

Or maybe it being SP only might hurt it compared to SoD.
I'm suspicious that the difference between Days Gone moving 3-5 million copies and Days Gone moving 10+ million copies would have been adding optional four player campaign co-op a la Dying Light, but I could certainly be wrong.

Mind, if the game is a 90+ rated title instead of an 80-85 like I'm expecting, I'd slot in a different set of two numbers.

Aww it means it didn't outsell BF, 2 and Brohood, while being a way more ambitious game.

Shame on Ubisoft for dragging the franchise to the ground with the annualization. And they didn't learn a bit.

One day AC will simply be one unsustainable as the games get bigger and bigger with the whole "Mainstream Witcher" take and it being SP only and annualized will make sales fall off a cliff in a few years. A shame.

May continues the trend of everyone having a great 2018. That upsets some people but it's true, all 3 platform holders are doing great.

SoD2 sales are pretty huge. And that's after a successful launch for Sea of Thieves as well. Really curious to see how Forza Horizon 4 is going to perform considering how beloved that series is and with 4 looking so good. Could be the biggest launch in franchise history with the added exposure Game Pass adds to the mix.

Overall this year from a financial standpoint for 1st party releases is looking very very good for MS, especially in comparison to their rather dismal 2017

I think it will struggle to get 80

Not sure what non-gaming parent is gonna buy their 4 year old a Switch + Labo for Christmas. Not seeing the market. If the parent is a gamer and Switch owner they most likely would have bought Labo for their kid already.

I'm not seeing where Labo skyrockets in Nov/Dec unless Nintendo does a massive push and a price drop.

If state of decay 2 can do this well with mediocre reviews and being on game pass I think days gone will do okay

About comparaison or Switch Versus WiiU Numbers for Donket Kong TF and Hyrule Wariors
Because we don't have Nintendo digital it's a difficult comparison to make.

It won't be a full picture comparaison, but it would help to make an idea to just compare Retail versions of both

Also, WiiU probably had a very small digital %, so any digital would be in Switch adventage.

It's not like we don't have a massive precedent of that with the entirety of the Wii era...

If those are unit sales sold for state of decay 2 without game Pass - I am absolutely blindsided. Great work Undead Labs.

Do we have the individual rankings?
I'm curious about the split XB1/ Windows in terms of platform for SOD2.

Wait a minute, SoD2 beat out god of war? WTF??? thats insane haha.

Xbox must be back to doing well in the US if it can stave off Sony's biggest game in years!
