Does MS not have to pay 3rd party developers to put their games on gamepass? Not sure how the business side works. I know Netflix and Spotify spend most of their revenue on content from 3rd parties.

That sort of "critical mass" is likely, but I'm under the impression that FH3 already outsold GT Sport (both in total sales and also relative sales since launch). I'm trying to think who would be best to ping for a data point on that. Did you mean the franchise cumulatively (all-gen)?

Oh I didn't realise that. I believe GT Sport had sold roughly 3.5m in the time it took FH3 to sell 2.5m, but I'm not actually sure what the total sales are for both games at present. I was thinking FH4 might be the first in the franchise (Inc Motorsport) to sell as fast as GT Sport, if not faster.

Rumor has it PSNow will allow for PS4 downloads soon so it looks like they are going to morph that into their game pass.
Gamepass will still be less expensive, have backwards compatibility from the Xbox and 360, have deals for the games on the service, and have first party games launch day of release.

All Microsoft have to do is merge Gamepass and Xbox live together and it will implode even more when everyone has access to Gamepass. Sony can't do that with PSNow when it already cost 20 dollars a month and don't allow for Backwards compatibility. Gamepass is and will be a better deal.

I think MS going big into first party again is directly related to game pass. They don't want to suffer through the early years of Netflix begging for content and go right into modern day Netflix who just makes their own. MS might pay for some big 3rd parties to get on the service but I'm thinking MS is betting on first party to really push the service.

"They" think it states what the best-selling SKU in the market is, which is quite meaningful, especially for those looking at velocities and optimization.

You offered to get weird, so heres an ask for next month (though I suspect the relevant data is not for public consumption):

I would love to see a ~45 day chart of hardware/software sales to see the trends that occur right before E3 then right after. A combined one is fine, but broken up by console would be neat.

so all in all Dark Souls Remastered bombed?

proof that it was waaaaaay too soon for a remaster, original game was still fresh in people's minds. Bamco should've really waited til next gen

Demon's Souls remaster is what everyone wants

That would be amazing. Unfortunately, I only see monthly buckets. Which is a bummer.

All Microsoft have to do is merge Gamepass and Xbox live together

I was expecting this to happen at E3 tbh. Maybe next year.

Yeah I agree. The longer Sony waits on this the more advantage MS is going to have. Gamepass is only going to get stronger from here on out. FH4, Halo, Gears 5, etc is gonna be nuts.

"Sure, reorders will be made as stock sells through. I don't get the shipping argument. Labo in the context of a big box retailer isn't more expensive to ship or move than the average product. That seems... oddly specific a complaint.

It would actually be more expensive for Nintendo. The boxes are larger meaning fewer units would take up more crates. 1 Labo box takes up as much space as over a dozen Switch cases, but it doesn't cost x12 as much to buy. You're probably not wrong there's no benefit to the retailer though - unless Nintendo offers a discount for bulk orders for the above reason.

I was more interested in the first part of my question anyways though.

Online focus + well polished game + game pass + easily streamable game = banco. I expect it to be even more impacted by Game Pass than SoD2.
Game Pass increasing sales instead of the opposite is just hard to grasp as a concept for me even though there is actual data that suggests the case. I was wrong about both SoT and SoD2 so I hope I'm wrong about this too.

i'm thinking people try out the games and after decide to buy them. Seems to be definitely affecting sales in some way.

I find it very unlikely SOT and SOD2 would have done so well without it.
I don't understand why they would waste money and buy the games though. They are not demos...they are FULL games. Plus with bing rewards its easy to pay for your games pass monthly fee for free. The only games pass game I'll actually "buy" over the next 3 years in Halo Infinite because Halo is my most beloved franchise. Everything else I'll play for free on the service.

Updated OP with the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rsOnFVCaS8&feature=youtu.be

One interesting note is that State of Decay 2 was only $30 but still managed to top the chart which is ranked by dollar sales. So very impressive considering every other game in that list retails for around $60.

What we saw from the store was that the Ultimate Edition was doing really good. Like being number 1 and even after release with the big incentive of 4 days early access gone it was still doing really good and even sitting at second behind the base version. We never really saw a Ultimate edition doing that good really. That version was 50 bucks so probably helped alot. :)

It would seem awfully crazy to me for MS to not roll out a $100 - $120 a year option for Xbox Live Gold + Game Pass

Like that would drive some major adoption

Oh wow that's cool. So is it a limited amount of the play time like the EA Access early play thing where you only get to play a set amount of hours for a new release?
no You play a full Game without limit at all Until your subscription expires....

and If 3 Party games will leave the Game pass and you want to own it , There will be a promo offer for the game 10% to 20% of the game price and Depends on the duration of their stay in the service.

and All of MS games will be permanently in service

State of Decay 2 selling better than Detriot and being on Gamepass, that's insane. Congratulations to Undead Labs!!! And Quantic Dreams as well, I'm enjoying Detriot a lot.
