The experience of you and your friends don't cover the entire audience. Head into dedicated RE forums and threads to see a community that houses many different opinions and people, such as myself, that didn't bother to buy 6 and wouldn't have touched 7 if it continued down that path.

As to how much each type of fan contributed to sales / non-sales, that's up for debate, but using anecdotal evidence isn't going to get you an accurate answer.

It sold really well and it reached 5 million copies sold quicker than RE6 did. Comparing its current sales to current RE5&6 won't provide any useful information.

Are you sure. It's been dragging and need Gold Edition to go pass 5M while 5 and 6 doesn't need that. I mean 5 went all the way to 10M with everything combine. That is like double... Don't get me wrong, I don't mind RE7, but I don't really think it set the world on fire in terms of sale. First 3 months was like 3.5 million?

Reading some of the discussion on RE8 and I get the gut feeling it is a first-person game which I'd be perfectly happy with. It just would seem to make sense that with RE2make using an over the shoulder camera and releasing 2019 that the team who worked on RE7 wouldn't throw all the experience they gained on RE7 out the window so soon. My suspicion would be RE releases might look something like:
Remake 2: 2019
Resident Evil 8 (First-person): 2020
Resident Evil (subseries - OTS): 2021
Resident Evil 9: 2022/23
I think RE9 is the entry that will be up for debate at any rate, it all depends what the Remake 2 team move onto after release in January but they have certainly set a high bar for their next project. I think a lot of people are looking forward to RE2make.
- January 2019 - RE2make
- January 2020 - Revelations 3 (action, co-op)
- January 2021 - RE8
- January 2022 - RE3make

This imo makes more sense.

I don't really get the criticism of Leon's face. He's a kid during the events of RE2, it makes sense for him to look really boyish.

^ The difference is RE2R Claire is very pretty (the biggest criticism is that her face is once again completely different from previous games) whereas Chris's looks had been pretty consistent for over a decade and then was hit with the ugly stick in RE7.

My only complaint with REmake 2 Claire is she's wearing glitter lipstick, or the specular highlights on her lips make it look like she is. It's a bit much.

It kind of depends on the angle, to be fair.

What he looks like vs. what he could and should have looked like. His new face model is definitely a downgrade, even if it's not "ugly as sin" or anything. He went from being a hunk to looking like a random average looking guy.

Looking more like regular people instead of supermodels is kinda the point to be fair. I could absolutely not be more in love with Leon's new look and voice.

Current Chris looks believable to me as a photorealistic rendering of what an older version of this would look like:
latest

IIRC they said they played and consulted the original RE game, (not the remake), while making RE7 so maybe that influenced the look more so than the later entries.

I bought a copy of OG Resident Evil 2 for PS1 last night :) I actually had it on Gamecube but.... I just wanted that PS1 nostalgia on the correct platform. The ports never really shed that low poly PS1 feel so it might as well be on the original platform for purity.

Still a great game. Amazing atmosphere. Definitely aged even more since the last time I played it about a decade ago. Needs a remake to realize the feel of that world again.

3.5 million is a great achievement for a non-1st party title that's also not a big online shooter or a giant open world game / 50+ hour experience, and only has a single player mode. A great comparison would be the original Arkham Asylum and City, both sold around 3m in their first year, but topped 10 million within 5 years.

And RE7 achieved a further 2 million sales in the following 12 months, which is a solid achievement.

Compare that to Alien: Isolation - similar gameplay, but A:I rode on a bigger license and came in the wake of a bigger critical failure and it's still only sold 2.5 million copies to date.

A big problem is that Capcom were naive about creating a title that would sell as much as CoD, in 6, and since then, people have misunderstood what financial success is for a title.

Lots of lipstick can be used with a gloss on top. It really depends on the lipstick and the look one is going for. that's not glitter.

Honestly, i have zero issues with claire's makeup, it's pretty much what i do going out for a day without being overly fancy. Eyes, eyebrows lips, no foundation/skin stuff.

RE6 reached 5M after 6 months , Without PC or Digital , RE7 reached 5M after a year with Digital , PC and a Gold Edition

Apologies, I miss read RE6's achievement as 18 months. But still, that does not make RE7 a failure. With both 6&7 sales projections, Capcom were unrealistic about the changing video game market and audiences.

I would also question RE6's ability to meet those sales if released now & will draw a fairer conclusion on RE7's success another year down the line.

Definitely better in its native resolution, the upscaled backgrounds looked washed out on PC, DC and GC.

The right face looks pretty bad in comparison to the one from RE7 though.

They can't just slap on the old RE6 model facial features over the new photogrammatory-enhanced model.

It should also be mentioned Claire went into Raccoon City thinking she was going to go to the police station and ask around if her brother had been around, so was expecting to meet and talk to people. She obviously wasn't expecting the zombie apocalypse.

I agree!

Ports of those PS1 "polygon on top of pre-rendered backgrounds" games can really go awry. The polygon characters and BGs kind of mesh at a low resolution. But if you re-render the polygons at higher res or upscale the BGs, the characters and BGs ceace to look like they're matched.

I was actually in the exact same situation where I had it on GCN but not on PS1. Picked it, but still haven't gotten the time to play. I haven't played it in like 10+ years so I'm excited to play it again because it was one of my favorites.

Gonna semi-disagree. Unless you're rolling out an old school CRT to play the game, Gamecube version via emulation holds the best today (outside of Vita on it's small screen).

- High resolution character models, ability to skip all scenes (even in-engine one's), 60 FPS FMV (I think, not 100% sure).
- Additional emulator based smoothing options which enhance, or at least smooth out, 2D background quality on higher resolutions.

Notice all the store front names, car bumpers etc to see the cleaned up aliasing on these ancient 240p backgrounds.

Doesn't Chris' face belong to a real guy? Kinda harsh here.

How is it harsh to say he's less attractive than the previous model? And we're also talking about an actual model here (and I'm sure there are lots of people who don't share my taste in men who find him attractive). Being judged by his looks is literally part of his job.

Thats True , RE2 ( Beside Revelations 2 ) is one of the very few games where Its protagonists thought it will be a normal day they will spend so they initially acted casual and normal , RE3 may half-count since Jill was trapped in the city during the initial outbreak and she wasn't prepared for that kind of outbreak but at least she knew she was in a secret mission to investigate umbrella on her own so she was somehow have an amount of preparation before it

Whenever I'm feeling down I think of this game, and then I'm happy again.

No one likes that image. It's not representative of the in-game models at all.

And those character models are like dolls. They don't look like real people, not even super models. They straight up.look like what they are; CGI characters,
Yea, they were like dolls, they lack imperfections and have perfect proportions.

Anyway, to bring it back to gameplay and the specific design decisions made to scare the player, the lack of delay from the zombies when they're damaged, :

They just keep coming and that's pretty terrifying.

New Leon looks dumb and clueless, exactly how a 21 years old in his first day at the job should look like, love it.

But, Leon is the prettiest looking REngine model/character yet, and im counting nero.

its a good change either way, i wouldn't compare the models of Darkside Chronicles that was a Wii game they couldn't make the characters realistic even if they wanted so they made them look 'cool'

Lots of game characters have changed since then, maybe FF is still going for the stylized look, as well as Nintendo/low budget games.

So, at one point I was talking to the director and I was like… 'Hey, what's going on here?! There's tons of zombies coming through here.' He actually laughed at me. [laughs] He said, 'You should've been careful, you should've gone this route, you should've boarded windows up…' So yeah, things you do earlier like with the windows does have a heavy impact on what you might encounter later on.

If the director Ampo I can see him teabagging his co-worker

What the hell I just learned that RE Engine means Reach for the Moon Engine and not Resident Evil Engine
