Apparently a portion of the SCP fandom is losing its shit over the Wiki celebrating pride month. I didn't even know it was going on until after listening to a reading on Youtube and going down into the comments to see the discussion about the SCP only to find that all the highly upvoted comments are people saying the SCP wiki has been taken over by sensitive Tumblr SJWs and the like. Looking into it a little more, the mods on the Wiki have been banning anyone who makes homophobic comments in light of the logo change and it looks like some shitty alt-right Youtuber picked up on this and made a video about it, thus attracting all of the worst sort of people to the issue. It's a little depressing to see that there are so many people in the fandom who'd want to make this into an issue. I've seen discussions about making an SCP Wiki replacement that 'hasn't been infiltrated by SJWs' and apparently they're even going to try and harass various writers on the Wiki to remove their work and force the mods to back down before they lose too many writers. I really hope they don't back down and just let the bigots bitch and moan about 'politics' being shoved down their throat for the rest of the month. It's always nice to see the types who think we don't need a pride month proving exactly why we still need a pride month.

Oh fucking joy.

Welp, SCP is something I enjoy coming back to once or twice a year, but if this is gonna be another one of those sites where people can't seem to show empathy for their fellow person I guess I'll dip as usual.

The mods do a damn good job on the site, because I'd never knew that side of the fandom existed. I thought it was one of the more tolerant communities, especially when a lot of the articles have LGBT protagonists or characters.

I guess I shouldn't really be surprised at this point, which is sad.

Yeah having thought it through a large part of the problem here is the usual idiots coming from outside the fandom and trying to make it seem like they're the majority that everyone should follow, I just got sick of their bs five or so years back when gamergate started.

Like all things in life especially in a giant community, things are mixed and everyone has different views. Just assume no matter where you go there are assholes and insane people everywhere.

It's not all bad. The mods on the Wiki are doing a great job keeping the bigots at bay, with the sole exception being that off-site brigadiers have been mass downvoting LGBT friendly authors writing, which sadly, I don't think the mods can do much about. The downvoting is apparently being documented though so hopefully nobody gets their work deleted at a later time for having a lower rating than it should. Aside from that, the Youtube community is going to be the Youtube community, and Twitter is going to Twitter. The SCP subreddit is kind of a shit show right now too, although in this case it's slightly more complicated. Apparently the alt-right Youtuber's fandom invaded the subreddit so their current reaction might not be a genuine community reaction. Apparently a mod post about pride month was pretty highly upvoted until the alt-right dude's video came out and suddenly it dropped into the negative. On the other hand, a mod who commented later pretty much telling the complainers to suck it got demodded afterwords, so it's kind of an iffy situation.

It's funny and kind of depressing that these fucks are only able to thrive in places with little to no moderation.

I saw the replies to the SCP Twitter changing their logo for Pride month, and it's simultaneously one of the saddest and most confusing things to me. I don't understand why anyone would be angry (feigned outrage or not) at a website that collects stories from hundreds of writers supporting Pride and LGBT causes. Good on whoever runs the Twitter account for doing their best to shut down the idiots who are attacking them, and on the mods on the site for all the bans being made.

someone should make an SCP about it

I would love to see this happen, just to watch the breakdown the trolls have in response. It could be entered for the 4000 contest.

You know, for as much as they bitch about Tumblr having taken over, I took a look at the SCP foundation tag on Tumblr and there isn't much of a community on there and almost nobody is talking about current events. Tumblr truly is the alt-right's ultimate boogeyman.

My favorite is SCP-093 which is like this almost lovecraftian alternate world decimated by cosmic beings. It also birthed this cool piece of fan art by Alex Andreyev

That's one of my most favorite too. If I could have an SCP movie about anything, I'd want it to be that SCP.

There are a lot of movies that feel like they could be SCPs. It Follows is a great example considering the rules regarding the entity and how it could be contained.

I also mentioned above but the game Control by Remedy Studios (Max Payne, Alan Wake, Quantum Break) sounds like its taken some heavy inspiration from the SCP site and lore. I believe one of the people running the studio heads even name dropped SCP during an interview at E3.

Random bump but just wanted to say that Remedy's newly announced game Control sounds somewhat inspired by the SCP foundation.

Basically sounds like you're a site director who is forced to go in and try and deal with a containment breach.

Glad to see I'm not the only one. The guard sat staring at the fridge is absolutely prime SCP stuff.

I'm not sure how I feel about Control's gameplay looking like standard weird shit and shooting, but that's a good tone trailer.

Wow, it's crazy how the 4000 contest is going to run starting in July. 3000 feels like yesterday. It shows how much SCP has grown, even in spite of idiots getting up in arms over a temporary logo change.

In any case, I found a really good SCP http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-3021. The implications of this in the final note are chilling in a familiar way.

Anyone read the 4000 submissions yet?

I don't quite get Future Imperfect, especially the last image.

I've already lost the link but recently I read a proposed SCP that involved Emperor Norton of San Fansisco as part of a machine to advance Imperial America. I think it was for the contest.

Anyone got a link to the entry that has to do with a guy who experienced the decomposition of his body post death, and gets revived and will do anything to become immortal so he never has to experience that again? Having a hard time searching for it. D:

Asking for a friend.

EDIT: Nevermind they found it haha. http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-2718

That's a really good (and disturbing) one.

What's great is they leave it ambiguous if it happens to everyone, or if it's just a memetic effect that gets a few people.

I finally got around to reading most of the new 4000 series proposals. I wasn't really impressed by a lot of them, but a few of them were really good. Taboo is definitely the best though, and rated highly for a good reason.

yeah i just dug up this thread to see if anybody had talked about that one yet.

probably my favorite SCP in a while

It won the contest, apparently.

http://www.scp-wiki.net/taboo

I like the fact that it's not actually numbered

I like the SCPs that are clever in how they're dangerous and the counter measures against them have to be as equally clever. I didn't realize they were already at 4000 though, getting news fast at this point.

"No testing involving SCP-4999 has been authorized or attempted, due to [...] ethical concerns."

That's not how this works.
Sure it is. Ethics have played a part in decision-making at the Foundation since SCP-1851-EX, at least. As they state in the FAQs, the Foundation is not heartless and openly bringing fatal disease or injury to people without friends or family support in their final days is cruelty for little additional benefit or understanding.

This article is morally depraved.

Foundation treatment of D-Class doesn't stop being heinous just because it isn't "intentionally" racist anymore.

Cross testing isn't normally allowed. Mostly because they don't know if mixing anomalies will produce something worst or catastrophic.

I don't remember the number, but the vending machine that reacts to different types of coins and whether or not is plugged to a wall power outlet always cracks me up.
