MTL needs to take at least a shot in Price/Weber's window and ROR helps give you that so it's not the worst idea if that is indeed the deal.

I think ROR is worth it tbh, especially since the Habs need to win now.

He's a legit #1C, better then any I can remember you guys having for a long time.

ROR to me is a great 2C. If he came here he'd be Plekanec 2.0.

Forget the ghost of Plekanecs past we've seen the past 2 years, the Plekanec of 2005-2015 was a damn good 2C forced to be a mediocre 1C because we had no better options. That's how I see ROR in Montreal unfolding.

Also, reasons I cant explain, as its spanned multiple GMs/coaches/eras, offensive production seems to nosedive in Monteal. ROR being a consistent 60 point threat? Shave 10 points off that in Montreal.

Bargainbin mortgaging the future for no reason is somehow less exciting now that we all know it's his one play. Just give us Lindgren and then fire him.

For the record I really like ROR and would love to have him, but the only way getting him makes sense is if we had a snowball's chance in hell of also landing Tavares.

But we dont.

So we need to rebuild. ROR is not an acquisition a rebuilding team makes.

Weber's window was 5 years ago. MTL already took a shot with Price and they fucked it up hard. They don't have the pieces to go for it and they don't have the assets to acquire them either.

I love how Botterill just said on TVA that he's focusing on his pick when asked about ROR

motherfucker you're the only one there who doesn't need to think about who you're picking

Yeah but what if he gets up there and accidentally says "Dahlin" when he really meant to say "Hughes"? How embarrassing would that be.

So the names being floated around as trade bait for the Canes are:

Jeff Skinner
Justin Faulk
Noah Hanifin
Elias Lindholm
etc.

...and the men in charge of them are Tom Dumdum and Don Waddell.

Antacids and whiskey for me tonight!

IF the Habs are truly trading Patches tonight, I don't see how they can't select Zadina.

Edit: all those Canes names in play... they rebuilding??

Tony just said as of now the Habs aren't close to trading the 3rd pick or moving down. Don't think it makes sense to move down and try and still get their guy, just grab him at 3 whoever it may be.

Yeah why trade 3OA for a power play specialist 1C when you can sign Blake Comeau the pk specialist

Lmao all these "chats" that are really just GMs setting up tee times.

Let's not get excited for big moves, it's the NHL we're talking about

Damn. From being the Caps starting goalie round 1 of the playoffs to being shipped off with Orpik for a 2nd.

Almost Kotkaniemi time. The comparable I've seen from scouting reports seem to be Kopitar. We could handle a Kopitar.

Grubauer for a second rounder is a good deal. Orpik's contract is inconsequential to our cap space. I'm good with it.

If we draft Kotkaniemi, we wont see him til at least. 2019-2020. If you'll allow me to go full Dopey for a minute, that's probably also when we will see Poehling. If they both develop as we hope, we could maybe finally see some centre depth coming?
