Something I noticed while playing it at E3 and that I did not see clearly in any video : Pikachu has a detailed texture, like fur.

Oh that's super neat. I really liked how they gave the Pokemon in Pokken more realistic textures and was kind of hoping eventually they would do that for the main games instead of solid blobs. I'm sure its probably difficult to do for every single Pokemon so Pikachu (and presumably Eevee?) might be more detailed

I'm team Pikachu, as for me this is a remake of Pokemon Yellow, and I'm all in for that gen1 nostalgia.

Also Eevee is evil.

I checked every other Pokémon in my party and only Pikachu had a "furry" look, every other Pokémon (the 3 starters, Rattata and Eevee) only had smooth plain color textures (with more or less details, but no fur).
I asked the Nintendo guy why only Pikachu, he said he did'nt know and maybe it would change in the final release.

Recording or taking photos that close to the screen was forbidden, I'll try to see if I can find those details on the Tree House footage.

EDIT : I could find a frame where it was a bit visible, but the YouTube compression completely kills it, the detailed fur texture is everywhere on Pikachu, it's not visible on the yellow parts on this shot but only in the middle on the brown ones :

I used a sharpen filter to make it a little more obvious despite YT's compression, but on direct footage it's really visible and looks great.

Also, notice how the texture is mirrored.
Glad it's more subtle and not like this abomination:

I still want to know the point of having a Eevee than can't evolve. Almost -1 in the team.

Awesome thanks!
And did learn how soon we can't access the poke park? I have squirtle bulbasaur and charmander ready to transfer over.

Pokepark replaced the safari zone in fuschia.
During the Nintendo tree house they showed the trainer having Bulbasaur and squirtle when going to the pewter city gym. So you should be able to catch them straight off the bat.

Yea I'm pretty sure I saw a Bulbasaur straight up spawn in Viridian Forest during the E3 playthrough. Must be an uncommon/rare spawn.

Well Bulbasaur looks like a rare spawn in Viridian Forest (we saw one in the wild) but that was probs a demo team. It's highly unlikely that we'll be able to get all 3 original starters plus evee and Onix before Pewter in the full games.

I mean that was more for demo purposes though

Honestly, with the focus on casual players I wouldn't be surprised if they allowed you to catch them early.

But I fully expect Bulbasaur to remain a rare spawn early in the game, then put Squirtle near Cerulean City. Not sure where they'd put Charmander though.

You can catch an eevee/pikachu to evolve, but I assume you can't dress them up nor will they have the stat bonuses

Exactly, if you want Raichu or the Eeveelutions you can still catch a wild one that won't have the outfits but can be evolved.
Quick search on YouTube does show that (at least) the Pikachu you start with gets bonus stats, I assume it's the same for Eevee.

Man this is honestly one of my most hyped games of the holiday. Can't seem to get it out of my head. And the fact that we are still getting a full next-gen Pokemon title later next year is just icing on the cake. This is the perfect holdover until the real deal.

I'm still on the fence, they seem to have taken A LOT out of the actual core games (GF/TPC insists this isn't a spin off) and giving little in return.
Gary being changed to a nice guy "friendly rival" is another change I'm not too happy about (I remember beating that brat at the E4 as a kid after going through Blue/Yellow, it felt priceless).

The Mew/Pokeball thing hasn't given them the benefit of the doubt either.

I'll just wait till the game releases and see the general consensus on Era to see if I'll buy it.

Yeah for sure, all good points. I'm also bummed about the rival but they've had "friendly" rivals forever now, so I'm kind of used to it. I miss Gen 2 rival. Straight up thief, lol

It's so weird how even when going full nostalgia pandering they really don't want an antagonistic rival...

Im super excited for this game, haven't played a pokemon game in years.
Did they said something about leveling up? It really is a yellow remake?

Levelling is simple: in trainer battles it works EXACTLY like it always did. There is an exp share too. In wild encounters your whole team gains exp for captures, with extra exp awarded for good throws etc. Basically, instead of grinding wild Pokemon for exp by one shotting them, you grind them by capturing them. Duplicate Pokemon can then be sent back to the professor (which basically releases them) in exchange for "candies". There is a different candy for each stat and they work like the stat boost drugs in the original games. So grinding Pokemon by capturing them leaves your team and gives you stat boosters.

It's heavily inspired by the structure and story of Yellow, but it's not a straight remake. Catching and stat manipulation is all Go-inspired where you transfer Pokemon to the lab to get candies to boost your team.

It's kind of it's own thing, a crunchy GO candy wrapped in a gooey Kanto caramel.

It's fascinating that people forget that in Yellow, which these games are a remake of, you are given Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle by NPCs around Kanto.

Personally I find it dumb and limiting as they blocked off access to Pokémon post gen 1 but yet are okay with Alolan form. I really want to see what dumb answer Game Freak will come up with to explain why Golbat can't evolve into a Crobat.

I am really hoping that we can at least rebattle trainers as I am not looking forward to wasting time in capturing Pokémon just to train my team up.

I still don't understand how some folks think that this is better than Wild battle.

The bummer is there is no breeding/daycare, so you can only have one of each. I personally like filling my boxes like a Pokédex, having one of every Pokémon in each evolution. I guess you can transfer from Go, but still..

There's the possibility that they ditched the handouts that you got in Yellow in favor of making them wild this time. We've already seen different NPCs on the overworld, so we really have no idea what the total extent of the changes are.

It's visibly more of a re-imagining than a remake.

Oh yeah, I guess that's true. That would be nice! As cool as Go integration is, I'd rather fill the Pokédex without resorting to that one-way transfer.

Watched the E3 gameplay with my oldest and she's so excited for this. Im selling some action figures of mine this week and should get enough cash to get her own switch. Already got a pokeball plus ordered for her.

I find antagonistic rivals a tad overrated anyway, I get why people want them, I like them too, but I don't see them as automatically better. Then again, I view N and Gladion as rivals so maybe that's why I don't miss them as much as others.

I feel like I'm the only one super excited

Understandable, I was kind of freaking out until they assured us of the 2019 titles

It'd be great to start off with a nice rival that turns into an arsehole, flip the trope on its head. Like say one that starts humble but becomes more full of himself and arrogant the more gym badges he wins. I doubt that'll happen in this game though.

The rival thing is a particularly sore spot for me. So tired of the rivals in Pokemon games vomiting rainbows when they talk. It was cool in Gen 3. I was into it then because it was new. But it feels like it's been a while since we've had someone who really feels like an actual 'rival.' Hearing that the Let's Go games repeated this was a huge turn off for me. Still going to check them out but man... I wish Game Freak would be a little tougher around the edges every now and then. Not a lot! Just a little bit.

I have actually said to my little brother that had this game came out when he was younger, I would have played co-opt with him. As he used to watch me play Pokémon Colosseum and really got into the team I created, even drew pictures of them as well.

Personally I am a bit disappointed by Gladion as I feel that he isn't well fleshed out due to the game having far too many characters to juggle and spent too long in introducing the trial captains.

I mean Gladeon is suppose to be Team Skull enforcer but I feel that title means nothing as we hardly see him act like an enforcer.

my problem with antagonistic rivals is they dont solve the actual problem of rivals being fun to beat. it ties with the inherent problem of the games being too easy. solve that first, game freak
