Man, awkward.

Gotta be a weird feeling to potentially not only still be a Hab in October, but to still be the Captain of the Habs, when its 100% clear both the player and the team want to move on.

There's no way they can allow that kind of a distraction, for a team that'll most likely suck, into the regular season.

Of those teams the Bruins have the least amount of cap space atm by a fair bit, they'd have to find a trading partner or buyout Backes or something. Though all those teams mentioned still have RFAs to sign and whatnot, like Nylander, Hertl, Janmark, etc.

I don't see how they could get him. Who would take Backes at his contract?

Bergevin is probably super shook right now. Not that he probably would have done the better thing and leveraged the cap space in taking on bad contracts for assets, but woof at siting on $8 million for an entire season to Hail Mary at Tavares and not even get handed the ball

Also congrats Fubar!

It never made any sense for the Habs to structure any Pacioretty deal around an extension because:
1) Pacioretty's coming off a low shooting percentage season.
2) Shooting percentages regress.
3) Scorers still basically get paid by shooting percentage because NHL management sucks (looking at T.J. Oshie).

Unless the contracts on offer were clear overpays (and they probably weren't with the low percentages) any agent with half-a-brain would tell him to play out the season, hope that regression comes, and have his pick of the teams interested in him next season.

On the Pacioretty note, Jeff Skinner reportedly turned down multiple trades this past weekebd according to Andy Strickland.

Pretty bizarre situation with both of them.

Lavoie says Tavares was approached by the Habs and turned them down. I think it's down to the Sharks and Islanders.

Interesting! That I guess explains why we had those seemingly confirmed reports that the Canes were close to have 3 1st round picks.

The lacrosse team I coach won the state tournament. 9-4 in the semis, 11-6 in the final game. Good feeling.

My party wont quite be Ovi-like, but I will do my best to live up to the standard he set.

Congrats Fubar, you have been more successful during your tenure than Babcock has been with the Leafs.

Not surprised Duclair isnt being resigned. Its too bad his season was ended by that shitbag Marchand but he wasnt doing much before that anyway.

I know for a fact Fubar based his team's victory on grit, truculence, and more grit.

Thanks guys - and Dubbed, I did have a few coaches say they liked the tenacity the defense played with and will be trying to get their kids to do the same next season. #grit

Duclair won't be back in Chicago... Domi and Duclair reunion??

I would really, really love if the Wild signed Duclair and Tobias Rieder as UFAs to fill out the bottom six and allow Greenway, Kunin, and other prospects to develop in the AHL. And who knows, either Duclair or Rieder could bust out past their current 20-30 point seasons any time. It would give the team a fair amount of speed on the 3rd or 4th line and not require them to pay for aging 4th liners that contribute little.

Next season will suck ass but if Pettersson, Juolevi, and Hughes are all in the NHL next season along with a seasoned Boeser and a slighlty less of a bust Virtanen then it'll at least be fun sucking ass.

Edit: And Demko!

Some notes from the last ~24 hours

- Canucks are looking at Rielly, Bozak and Beagle. They never reached out to Tavares given rebuild phase
- Canucks wanting to add "grit and toughness" with UFAs
- Madden over Wise given "grit, determination and skill" (will be interesting to watch those two)
- Canucks are not targetting Vanek (I wouldn't have minded him getting paid for 2 seasons)
- Woo thinks he's 1 or 2 years away (nah)
- Hughes will join the dev camp this weekend (and, I guess, will play in the top prospects game)
- Benning: 'Hughes draft pick takes pressure off Juolevi having to be a powerplay player' (not a good look)
- Discussions over the next week re Canucks/Hughes camp on turning pro - whatever's best for his development
- Benning would have taken Zadina if Detroit took Hughes
- Canucks will "make room" for Petterson, Hughes and Juolevi if they can prove they're ready
- No QO for Cassels. Shame how much his development stalled once he reached the pros

The New York Rangers in 2018 are a strange new beast.

Meanwhile, K'Andre Miller is definitely going to Wisconsin, and Nils Lundkvist is going back to Sweden. Kravtsov, however, may end up buying out the last year of his KHL contract to make the jump to North America.

I love how the Habs preach character and attitude, ship out PK (for being self promoting and black) and AGally (rumored rehab stint and girlfriend/police incident) and then target Domi (bigot), ROR (DUI), and Voynov (wife beater).

Such rispek
Such character
Such attitude
Such intangibles

Leafs will never win a cup with Babcock as coach. First Leafs poster to reply to this that thinks otherwise - I will buy a Jersey (not the authentic but instead the Replica or whatever Adidas calls it) of their choice if the Leafs win a cup with Mike Babcock as their head coach for the duration of the season and Stanley Cup Finals.

Ayy way to go Fubar on being the most successful sports team in the state of Minnesota!

More successful than the Wild will ever be, that's for sure.

Kravtsov, however, may end up buying out the last year of his KHL contract to make the jump to North America.

As far as I am aware KHL players can no longer do this, which is a large part of the reasoning behind Kaprizov still not being in the NHL. He has his contract set for a few more years and there is nothing that can be done about it.

The only good thing that could come from a Voynov signing is I would finally have a use for my Habs Komisarek jersey sitting in the back of my closet.

How does one safely burn a hockey jersey?

How does one safely burn a hockey jersey?

In an empty metal barrel and with gasoline and a box of matches, in a gravel parking lot far away from any other structures.

Alternatively, you could also do it on a sidewalk on of the arena in the middle of the night. Drive by with it already soaked in gasoline, toss it on the sidewalk, drop match, drive away. That would leave quite the statement.

Voynov doesn't even make sense from a hockey perspective.

Weber and Petry are clearly better right defencemen and Juulsen looked ready to be the regular 3rd-pair guy.

The reporting on this has been pretty consistent since the draft, though it's unclear whether it's an out clause that is part of his contract or not. It seems like both Kravtsov himself and the Rangers believe that the option exists for him to be in the States this year. Whether that's actually the case or not, we'll have to see. Even if it is the case, they may want him to remain in Russia playing at a high level against men rather than going to Hartford. Either way it doesn't sound like the plan is for him to be starting on the main roster, at least for now. Then again, Chytil wasn't expected to play last year either.

In general, though, everything Gorts has been saying seems to indicate that we're going to suck this year (by design).
