RE0 and Rev1 belong at the bottom of every list.
Eh, Revelations 1 is perfectly fine for what it is while Revelations 2 isn't.....
for me 6, CV,0 and 7 are lower

1 is a great spinoff side game that they could pump out one of every few years of just BSAA vs BOW action with characters returning here and there(like Rebecca)

2.... was an amazing mainline game trapped as a spinoff with a far lower budget than it deserved.
Rev2 really should have been 7 personally.

I wasn't aware they hired him.
Maybe they didn't but he did still write Code Veronica. Started working on it before 2 actually shipped, which led to some funny stories about how Hideki and co's final touches meant the writer suddenly had to rewrite on the CV scenario that he had just plotted out.

He also worked on Dead Aim if I remember correctly, so yeah, he wasn't like the RE guy exaclty but he kinda was between RE2 and CV. I don't think RE3 was done by him though but I appreciate the narrative continuity between RE2 and CV. There was a time when it felt like RE had a genuine arc it was going through.

Mikami wanted Umbrella to be rid of whenever he returned as director when he assigned Hideki to 2 and let others play with the IP under his supervision, so when he took over again he didn't care much for whatever narrative progression had been happening. He just pushed the hard reset button on Umbrella and had some writer handwave how it was no longer important. It was also Mikami who initially didn't want RE1.5 to have much emphasis on a script. It's hit and miss depending on who was primarily responsible for respective qualities in RE, but I do ascribe much credit to the guy who led the narrative on RE2 and CV. I felt those had excellent buildup and good character dynamics even if CV is absurd sometimes.

Interesting seeing VII rated so lowly in people's favourites of the franchise. In fact it is in my top 3 along with REmake and RE2. The only game in the main series that really had me rolling my eyes throughout was RE6, because of its very troubling tendency to think throwing in every game design element popular at the time was the right thing to do. There were bright sparks suffocated out in that game by irritating decisions and a lack of cohesion, complete identity crisis for the franchise.

Also, keeping on topic to the RE2make, I will be very happy if Claire has quite a significant difference to Leon this time around; the new scene which appears to show them first meeting at another point in the plot is promising for this. By the way I take it Kendo's shop is out? Where will I get my "I thought you were one of them" or "Stop I'm a human". In all seriousness though really excited for this game the more I hear about it, looks as if the dev team have been faithful enough to the original while 'remixing' it into a new experience. Bring on Jan 25th.

The bottom 4 could kinda be flipped around possibly it's hard to tell.

I have a few controversial choices if we're doing a mainlime series ranking.

RE4
REmake
RE7
Revelations 2
Haunting Ground
DC2
RE3
RE5
DC1
RE2
RE0
Dead Aim
RE6
RE1
Revelations 1
Code Veronica
Survivor

However, I even think Survivor is okay.

I still need to play Gun Survivor 2 and the Outbreak games. I decided for fun to include Dino Crisis 1 & 2 and Haunting Ground as marginally related. I have played Umbrella and Darkside Chronicles, and enjoyed them both, but not quite sure where'd I'd place them. I have played Gaiden and ORC (and its DLC), they'd be at the bottom. Code Veronica frustrated me a lot of the time, and I actually like Rev 1 but I feel like it's the most average RE game.

Beat RE Revelations!

Dumb story but surprisingly fun! It controls BEAUTIFULLY on Switch so I am super glad I waited

I think I would have hated playing the game on 3DS for sure. The combination of the enhanced visuals (this game is prettier than I thought it would be!) and the better controls in a portable package is fantastic

Currently working through Revelations 2! Holy crap. Even better looking and there is a shit ton of mechanical layers to the game. I am really enjoying it! Much harder than REV1 right out of the gate. I had to play the first section on Casual just to get a feel for how I am supposed to approach it

Its a very different game and taking advantage of both characters is a bit awkward. I've been finding it easier to just go balls to the wall on offense with Claire and Barry. Either way I highly recommend both games to Switch owners. Best portable RE experiences you can get atm and I hope they keep making them!

7 has great classic style gameplay. But the more I play it. The more I can see the flaws. Still a good game the more time I've given it. I've beaten it like 7 times now and got all the achievements on 3 different platforms. So not too much of a surprise to see it ranked a bit lower after the honeymoon of survival horror coming back has passed.

7 has amazingly high high and shows excellent promise, but the second half of the game is pretty weak by classic RE standards. It just stops surprising you so the tension and intrigue drops off hard.

Yeah thats true but I still enjoyed every minute of it

Was feeling pretty powerful at the end and yet still died to the last couple bosses. Plus the final area was SWEET

The final boss is like 2/3rds through the game lol. I really hated the mine, it was visually boring, and didn't do anything interesting with its layout or introduce any new enemies. Felt like they ran out of time there.

Yeah, Revelations 2 is shockingly great. I had low expectations going into it, but it blew me away by the end. It isn't perfect by any means, but it probably has the most heart of any RE game I've played in the last few years. The final boss sequence has some of the best character moments in the entire series.

If you have any Amiibo, scanning them gives you bonus BP which means you can buy a good amount of skills to help with the early game.

Yeah man it takes some getting used to since its SO different from REV1. I'm happy it is though. Makes it feel fresh and I'm enjoying the extra challenge and layered mechanics.

Those challenges though! Pretty sure Im not gonna chase all those medals lol

The mine was a gauntlet and I felt was a nice final area for what it was. A gauntlet to the finish. Absolutely LOVED it on madhouse difficulty. Love when you get to the end alright lets race for the ladder. FUCK THERE'S TRAPS THERE NOW SHIT

Madhouse in general was fantastic.

Yay!

A word of advice though! Towards the end of Claire's chapter 3 the game will force you to make a quick decision. If you stick with the default choice, you'll be getting the bad ending. In other words, you want to switch to the other option. The game sort of hints that you should make the switch though, and it's the only moment in the entire game that sort of resembles a QTE. It will all make sense when you get there! Just don't take too long or the game will auto-select the default option for you! Trust me, you want to get the (extremely satisfying) good ending on your first playthrough!

Idk that sort of gauntlet design only works for me in games that have deeper combat mechanics and a lot more enemy variety.

I gotta get back to my madhouse run at some point, I keep getting one shotted by one of those damn crawlers in the basement. I like how the samurai edge made madhouse super easy and then all of a sudden the Marg boss battle is unbelievably hard even with it lol.

RE1:DC Chris Advanced > RE1Make > RE1.

Also, regarding comments about the Crimson Heads turning up - we've seen nothing so far regarding matches and lighter fluid, so I doubt it.

But I do think that something is needed. We're going to be spending alot more time in the RPD. I'm guessing the boards and shutters relating to controlling zombie movement around the lower floors, to stop subsequent waves dominating the building, but I hope there's more to spice things up later on.

I liked the mine, it was a nice mixup of the standard "Underground lab" final setting. Instead of a high tech facility, we have a hastily thrown together, improvised staging ground for combating the E-type. Which I thought was a pretty cool break of convention but then you play Not a hero and there's just an actual underground modern laboratory in the same mine ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Even though it was short and just threw molded at you, I liked it a lot more than the boat part, which is by far the lowest point of the game to me.

I'm thinking the Lickers will be like the new Crimson Heads. Really dangerous and scary.
You could play REmake easily never having to encounter more than one Crimson though. I think on my first REmake play I literally spawned 2 in the entire game, not counting the one you're forced to fight. And one of those was the one that comes to life when you try to light it. The other was easily avoidable even after I spawned it. Crimson Heads were super dangerous if you encountered them but it's your own damn fault for letting them spawn.

Lickers in this game are unlikely to be as avoidable.

I think the mine would have been fine if the game skipped Ethan's pass of the ship, there was abit more background on Lucas and we got a new enemy type, introduced in small numbers during Mia's time on the ship, in large numbers

As it stands, even after DLC, it still doesn't feel right for Lucas to also be working with a company on the side, spying on everyone, when he's such a sadistic and temperamental character. And I can't remember why Eveline isn't aware of any of this going on.

What did everyone think of Ethan Must Die? I LOVED it. It was I Wanna Be The Guy: Resident Evil Edition. Such bullshit trial and error memorisation design, but I had loads of fun with it. It was my favourite part of the DLC honestly. But I recognise most probably hated it and see why.

I think that's what the boarded up windows mechanic is kind of meant to emulate no? Instead of choosing which corpses to burn, you'll decide which rooms you want to prevent a Licker from entering.

Agreed, I played RE7 many times and really liked it but in my opinion it was too flawed to be ''one of the best RE game''.

Not to mention it was the shortest and smallest mainline game in the series, I felt like RE4 was 3 times longer and 5 times bigger than RE7, and also 15 times more enemy variety.

Ship level is classic RE tho

I really like the vertical level design, but visually the individual areas of the ship lacked character that made each room of the house so memorable, I really don't like the mandatory flashback tape, and again it desperately needed a new enemy type to keep things interesting. But based solely on level design I do like that area quite a bit.

I actually think the classic style games are better served being a little short. RE4 was an action game so the immense enemy variety and length served it well, 7 didn't need to be longer imo it just needed a couple more unique enemy types. CVX was too long for the classic style imo.

I definitely spent the most time with this out the DLC's. It was really addictive to puzzle out each section.

I don't disagree but RE7 is just way too short for me. It would've been much better if it was at least 80% as long as REmake.

Yeah I would be very happy if Fixed Camera is gone forever

New style is just superior

I don't want to be rude, but this kind of post illustrates why gaming discussion can be so awful. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being happy about the TPP in REmake 2, but don't you think saying Fixed Camera should never return is lamentable? It's like saying "It's nice I got what I wanted and I hope you never get what you want". Not to mention, calling a camere style superior to the other is just needlessly contentious. I'm certainly being over-dramatic, but I just don't think this kind of assessment adds anything.

I agree with him, I got the bad ending first and it totally blindsided me the first time. I had to look up how I got that ending because it's a veeeery dark ending compared to the rest of the series. Like, "stupefied into total silence" dark, lol. I actually said "Oh thank god" when it said I unlocked the bad ending after the credits. Found out about that critical moment in episode 3, then got the good ending which is so satisfying.

But yeah, goddamn, the bad ending in REV2 is bad.

According to HLTB they are roughly the same, though. And that was my experience as well.

RE4 and 6 (and a bit 5) are too long for me. Replays are one of my favorite things about the RE series but I'm just too exhausted by a 20 hour action game to fire it up again anytime soon.

This question upsets me. Man Resident Evil jumped the shark.

Naw I'm on board with Jake. Wouldn't mind going forward if Jake, Sherry, Moira, and (Rev2 spoilers)
Natalwesker
were the core of the story.

Weird cause REmake feels a lot bigger and longer to me than RE7.

As for replayability I don't think length is a factor, at least not for me, cause I replayed RE4 like 30 times (not exaggerating) and RE7 only like 5 times :P

You don't need to take my opinion so seriously

Sorry if it comes of as somehow offensive. In context I recently played REMAKE and it was a nice walk down memory lane but I've grown to prefer the TPP over the fixed camera

The one thing that stood out to me is how annoying the shifting of perspective was. I grew up with it and played every game that used it but I find myself more sensitive to camera control than ever before these days.

I didn't enjoy going back to it as much as I thought

I picked up REMake again from my gamesave from when it came out on PS4 (I must have literally been about 20 minutes into the game), took one step out the save room by the stairs and died due to low health, lol.

God I suck.

I then reloaded, healed, opened the door and ran away from the zombie, I then nosed around a few rooms, ran down the hallway, pushed a few things away met Barry in the lobby, then I went into a room and died to another zombie.

Feels bad man, this game is like a maze and I feel like I have no idea what I am doing.

You really have to figure out a plan in the early parts and stick to it
