People putting JP3 above JW and JW2 should re-watch JP3. It's really bad, way worse than you might remember. The Spino is cool though but the Kirbys are by far the most annoying people in the entire franchise.
Not to mention that JP3 is a (mostly)drag of a movie(with a few good things about it) that's also a huge cash in and seemed unfinished. In fact the deleted scenes and ideas sounded much better than what they went with for that movie.

I really enjoyed this movie but it was dumb as all fuck.

I actually made a joke near the start of the movie when they were introducing James Cromwell's character about
The little girl was gonna be a clone of his dead daughter
, not believing it was ever gonna be the case... but it was bang on the money.
Though I did also think she was gonna have dino DNA and would be able to talk to dinos or some shit. I was way off there, but you could have seen it happening by the end, couldn't you?
.

Also, that bit with the long neck left behind on the pier hit me square in the feels.

I cried at the Brachiosaurus scene. The creature that sparked my fascination with dinosaurs and that introduced dinosaurs in the films. Meaningful for both myself and the series.

I liked it a lot better than JW. I like that it embraced the ridiculousness of being able to resurrect dinosaurs, while still trying to keep close to and play with themes introduced by Crichton. That several of the scenes were pulled straight from the novels (looking at the opening T-Rex attack and the fake out with the Carnotaurus at the end) was a nice touch too.

I still think Owen is a dick, but Pratt is an amazing comedic actor so even if I didn't care about Owen, he was still enjoyable. Claire actually had character and motivation this time. Maisie was also a much better child protagonist than Claire's nephews, and I'd argue the best, along with Lex and Tim, and definitely the most sympathetic between the clone twist and seeing her Grandpa die like that. Zia and Eli were great. Kinda hope they return. Lockwood was... Okay. It really felt like they wanted to use Hammond again but realized they couldn't possibly recast Attenborough, and didn't really know how to characterize him without being a character copy of Hammond so they kinda just... Made him an old guy?

The hunter and auctioneer were absolutely cartoonish, but I think Eli was suitably sinister while still kinda hammy. Wesker-esque in a way.

Something a review I watched mentioned was how similar in structure and tone it was to an Indiana Jones film. And you know what? I agree. Much better than Crystal Skull at that.

Speaking of comparisons, I say...
JP>FK>>>JW>=TLW>JP3.

Great film, 9/10.

Jurassic Park - Adaptation (and improvement of) classic novel

The Lost World - Kinda bad Adaptation of kinda bad JP novel

JP3 - Some leftover residue from JP novels, and bad fanfic

JW - Bad fanfic, adaptation of the JP Chaos Effect action figure line

JW2 - Shittiest fanfic and shittiest aspects of the Chaos Effect toyline

JW3: Megaton shitfire fanfic(????) (no island or park now), adaptation of Dino Riders??????

  1. Edit: Almost forgot - the girl is a clone - cool! But wait, you don't do anything interesting with it!!
It's part of her motivation to let the dinosaurs go, or at least that's how I interpreted her saying "they're alive, like me"

But yeah, it's sort of weird how that's otherwise ignored.

So, I just got back.

Am I the only one who thought this movie shared some really obvious similarities to, of all things, the first Pokémon movie?

Including Mewtwo's origin story (that was added later to the first movie mind you):

-The antagonist of both movies is a genetically altered clone/hybrid whatever created by obvious evil villains for WORLD DOMINATIONZ

-The primary setting of both movies is a creepy secluded mansion during a storm

-A little 10 year old clone girl is introduced who was created by one of the geneticists because her life was tragically cut short

-Clone/hybrid scuffles with its originator/predecessor in a big battle

-Both movies tackle whether the newly genetically created creatures have the right to live just as "God made" beings do.

-A major clone character leads the other clones to freedom to be out in the real world.

I'm not complaining or anything, but I thought it was kind interesting to bring up. Just my reading.

Otherwise...I actually kind of enjoyed it. I mean, it's not "good", but it's plenty of dumb fun. I'd definitely watch this over, say, The Last Airbender.

Now THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is a bad movie.

The rescue operation probably cost a good bit more than what they were selling off the dinos for. And why even bother when making more dinos seems so easy? They already have the know how to clone em, others apparently do as well according to the ending.
Also the dinos escape... really a small batch gets out and this is a threat? Especially without non breeding pairs, or dinos not being in their environments anymore, many would just die off naturally in the wild.

Everything looked so digital and fake, the whole movie felt cheap and lower budget than JW1 too.

I liked it more than JW but I hated JW. Some sequences were fairly effective as self-contained horror set pieces and the direction had visual flair. Probably the most entertaining of all the JP sequels.

It has a scene about how wonderful it was the first time you saw a dinosaur, about 30 minutes after it killed off the first dinosaur we ever saw by drowning it in lava.

Fuck that movie.

Eh, slow beginning.. reminded of a resident evil atmosphere with most taking place in a mansion. It didn't really feel epic. It was not better then 1st. Just ok

I mean even considering the ending, its not that bad a film. Saw it in theater on Friday, and I enjoyed it. Yes its not a spectacular film or any sort of grand return of the Jurassic Series, but if I am going to sit for 2 hours in a theater for a movie about dinosaurs, thankfully it has the decency to not bore me to death or feel like it takes forever to finish. It was a 2 hour movie that felt like 1 hour, and despite every single flaw, as a movie its a success in my books at the very least. But yeah, that ending. Ugh. We can clone humans now, wait what, yeah we can clone humans and this one feels like a kindred spirit to the dinosaurs so she sets them free into the Americas! I dunno but I think I just found a kid I want dead more than fucking Ollie. They pulled that shit for the obvious sequel, but I would have loved it if they said fuck you and did kill em off for good. You have that Isla Nublar destruction setpiece, which I loved, and then the Brachiosaurus dying in a spectacular fashion, which was a great use of symbolism. The entire movie was one big ethical question or at least posed like that, so in respect to the audience, they could have done us a favor and just went with where they were going with their questions. Alas no, sequel hooks and tearjerker asshole kids prevailed this day. I would have preferred an ass pull 6th movie with the second island being where those bird things flew off to in Jurassic World than the 6th movie literally being a Jurassic World, but eh.
Seriously though, at least with the symbolism this movie does things right. The Brachiosaurus as I mentioned, the Cane dropping to show that he's dead, small little touches that make this feel like a genuine effort. Also love the more domesticated take on Blue, even if I was scared that the ending shot of the movie would be the cabin built, Claire and Owen living in peace with their adopted daughter, and a fucking velociraptor is their pet dog.

That was so stupid. As if a fucking Brachisaurus knows what a ship is and that it could have gotten away with it.
Eh. I saw it more as the island us covered with metric fucktons of lava, so its natural instincts like all the other dinos was to reach the shore. I mean even if it was going to die, its too stupid to realize that and just sit there waiting for the lava to burn it to crisps.

The raptor realising it was gas and about to ignite then jumping out of the room just in time to avoid the explosion like she was frickin' John McClane.... lol.

Bad enough the movie already has one unlikable 'action' star in Owen, now the Dinosaur is doing that stuff too.

When invincible unarmed Owen was judo-chopping all the bad guys with their electric sticks and guns I was just sitting there thinking remember when Alan Grant done a backflip onto the T-Rex and roundhouse kicked it into the Triceratops poo?? I like popcorn junk movies, I just wish JP could be more, have some heart again with characters I cared about like the original did.

I knew it from the trailer but it still bothered me, WE DONT WANT TO SEE DINOSAURS DROWNING AND BURNING UP IN LAVA K THX.

I didn't even hate hate the movie overall like I did JW, I just feel.... indifferent to it. JP is my fav movie ever and I love Dinosaurs, I'm not sure how I even feel regarding these new ones.

At least the T-Rex survived. *hugs T-Rex*

T-Rex fucking shit up down in Arizona might just save Jurassic World 3. I mean I want majestic dinos on a spooky island as much as the next guy and enjoy a more chillax popcorn film, but on the other hand if they go full blockbuster and completely destroy any goodwill the franchise has, might as well go down the so bad its good route.

We got to see a T-Rex and a Lion roar at each other at least!

I think if I made a movie it would just be random things like that from my childhood.

"Imagine if a T-Rex met a Lion and then they started talking to each other."

I wish they had pushed the mansion stuff further, the premise of these movies being dealing with dinosaurs in an isolated, tense enclosed space is what makes them interesting to me. the setup for the next just makes it seem like your average apocalypse/disaster movie is on deck.

Also what the fuck happened to the girl's guardian? She left without a fight and now I guess the kid belongs to Pratt?

Also try as I may I cannot give a fuck about Owen

What is with trailers intentionally using scenes/dialogue from the last scene of the movie? I've seen it happen with several movies already.

Nope, I noticed it too. Probably completely coincidental, but that's probably part of why I didn't find the "do clones deserve to exist" question the movie posited out of nowhere, since I'd encountered it before in other media.

Really bad movie. The clone granddaughter is the only thing I can't decide if I love or hate

What I didn't like:

- Just overall wooden acting all around. Pratt and Howard totally phoning it in with no chemistry in particular.

- The comic relief just totally didn't work. Pratt didn't get as much to work with and the two new characters introduced were the least funny "comic relief" ever. Franklin in particular is just a useless, empty character with nothing to offer the film at all

- Pacing. Cut off the island portion of the film and it's a more digestible length and makes more sense. From the moment they arrive on the island and see a giant paramilitary unit, you know they're getting double crossed, so why make us wait 40 more minutes for that to happen.

- Too similar to the first movie. The whole Blue thing didn't need to be brought back at all, we wore it out thematically and storywise last time. The traditional raptor didn't need to kill the new genetically modified one, we also did that EXACT SAME THING last movie with the T-Rex killing the new dinosaur. Howard and Pratt doing their on again off again relationship banter AGAIN with no development at all from the previous movie. Dr. Wu appears again with no development from the previous film (and gets even less to do, despite being better acted and more interesting than the other villains in both films).

- The dollar sign thing................. the nasty woman thing.............................. guys, come on. This isn't a student film.

What I liked:

- Look, I'm a simple guy. The weird gothic visual of a dinosaur roaring in a thunderstorm on top of a giant old mansion in rural Washington or wherever it was is just made for me. The mansion setpiece in general worked for me

- The dinosaur auction was really well done in a horror movie type of way. Something terrifying about the most evil disgusting terrifying creatures stuck in a room with dinosaurs was fun. Love the way the light works in that area

- The ending sort of worked, I guess just because I think the next movie could be interesting

I like Pratt in these movies. He's got a natural charm about him. I think would be a good fit for Indiana Jones or something.

Absolutely not. Pratt is good when he's playing a goofball, to be frank his dramatic acting chops aren't very good.

Could you seriously buy Chris Pratt as a professor of archaeology?

The movie should have cut the volcano.

It should have been baddies taking dinos to sell them, and Owen and co. trying to step in for their well being. Keep it to the auction, mansion horror, and breakout.

But then you wouldn't have the military guys being idiots and revealing themselves as evil instead of just avoiding trouble and listen to the raptor expert

Can I just bring up how utterly hilarious the death of James Cromwell's character was?

I mean, the main villain goes to get the phone to "set everything right", which is conveniently placed on a fluffy pillow.

The instant they showed that, I immediately joked in my head "Nah man, just suffocate him with the pillow. It's right there."

SURE ENOUGH...

I actually threw my hands up in the air when that turned out to be the case.

Just came from seeing it. Holy shit, this was worse than the last one. I groaned at the lava shit, lava doesn't work like that. Some guy in my theatre yelled "you stupid motherfucker" near the end with the cage. It's just everyone carrying the idiot ball all of the time. And then they have to treat the audience even worse spelling out that Maise is a clone, like no fucking shit.

It's like witnessing trainwreck, but instead of calling for help you instead decide to venture into the wreckage. At first it doesn't seem too bad, maybe a minor derailment at most...but then you go further down the track. The horror of what you're seeing become much worse than you'd ever imagined with almost everyone still in their seats being a casualty.

When you get to the end, you find the body of the conductor face-down and ass-up with his pants and underwear pulled off towards his feet, blood drips trickling from his anus; and now you just want to exact revenge on whomever the FUCK is responsible.

It took a long time to get going. I thought the Indoraptor was utilized better than the Indominus Rex was, mainly because they didn't try to pretend it was anything other than a movie monster. "Scary dinosaur in spooky mansion" probably is the best scenario that the JW movies have produced so far, though.

The writing in general was awful. I feel like they just need to lean fully into the Dr. Wu genetic-experiment Resident-Evil-but-dinosaurs thing. They've lost all the credibility and prestige of the original.

Saw this last night. It was hilariously terrible. I felt borderline insulted by how stupid they expected the moviegoer to be to go along with these plot progressions. And stop with the fucking indorex movie monster crap. They have endless real dinosaur species to work with, and they choose this ridiculous boogieman bullshit.

Definitely had some nice "so bad it's good" vibes at times though. And the special effects were fucking top notch.
