Let's appreciate what the world has to offer by looking at entries for this contest. No winners announced yet, I think that's June 28th. 9 weeks of submissions so far and I've just plucked random ones I've liked to post here, this is not all the entries at all. Categories are Nature, Cities, and People but I might be a bit biased towards cities in my picks.

In this image six adventurous Travelers spent a night suspended hundreds of feets in the air at the 'Pietra di Bismantova', a sandstone rockformation in italy. The image was taken in the early morning hours before sunrise While people were still sleeping in their shelters. The hammocks And Campers are attached to a special RopE Setup in order to be Safe while sleeping.

Hong kong has always been known for its high urban density.it has a larger population, but land is limited in supply. Our tiny living space is getting even smaller and we are losing more green space for population growth, despite we are still desire for a breath of fresh air. we are not hoping for extension of the concrete jungle continually.

Just one of those amazing moments. Instead of november in VT, here i was a few feet away from a mother gorilla and her child on a mt. in Uganda!

I have recently visited the fishing village of Nha Trang, Vietnam and documented their daily life in two-morning sessions. It was the highlight to witness the women sewing the fishnets. I have tried many compositions to extract the scene by excluding the distracting elements to show the colors, patterns and the main subjects within a frame. This picture was captured for a candid moment of the scene, not staged as arranged by some photography tours nowadays.

As night fell, the corner of the city began to buzz. People rushed through the crowded night market. After a tiring day, people looked for the destination of their taste buds.

Tribal disputes are a perpetual menace in the region and women and children are the most effected. This stark reality is accentuate by the fragil reality of innocence

In Sendai City, taxi surplus is becoming a social problem. This is related to the abolition of tax regulations implemented in 2002. On weekend nights, lots of taxis are waiting for customers. In the car, there is a driver who will spend waiting time in various forms. This is the weekend scenery of Sendai city. I think the taxi driver is a hard job.

Two kangraoo fighting under the rain close to our campsite. to me it looks like a tarantino movie.

Visiting Mandalay for the first time, I reached at the top of the mountain in the early morning without knowing what would happen next. Luckily, I saw the sunrise turning the blue sky into crimson color, and then the amazing golden sunlight appeared.

Aerial imagery I captured of one of my favourite world cities. I focused on the beauty, the symmetry and the curiosity of scenes of every day life that we take for granted when viewed from our usual perspective. The people walking the streets below are unaware of the bigger picture to which they are a part of.

I have been to many football stadiums in the UK and nothing compares to this pitch in Henningsvaer. If it was even a contest then nature would beat modern architecture every time in my opinion. You don't need a fancy modern structure to have an amzing place to play football.

One shot capture. I watched the leopard stalking the stork, I only had time to focus at 400mm, no time to change to high speed, I watched the stork and as soon as it flapped it's wings I shot one shot. And you don't know if it got away or not, the beauty of photography...and the Serengeti.

dAECr97.jpg

rock climbing places around the world. Some are in the forest or in remote mountains. Hong Kong's Lion Rock is in the center of the city. This is a unique Hong Kong.

A quiet street in macau. Modernization around is quickly changing the city.

These photos are amazing. It is difficult to pick a favorite, but I am leaning towards Hong Kong, the tribal dispute, and Macau streets.

Some great shots. I really like the portrait of the mother with the gun especially.

Though I hate the trend of drone photography. I have seen some amazing drone shots but in general they are pretty boring and derivative. The HK shot and the one with the 6 buildings (Paris?) are boring and don't show any particular skill with a camera or tell any noteworthy story. They are just photos from above.

That one was Spain I think (here). There does seem to be a lot of them though. I liked this but didn't post it - also Hong Kong. Perhaps there's just something intriguing about these views of cities since it's a familiar landscape from an unfamiliar angle.

This one is actually cool because they lowered the drone in to the courtyard so they are surrounded by the buildings. Actually gives a real sense of place and claustrophobic feel of HK which is much more real.

That Macau picture really does look like anime.

The fishing nets picture and the one of the woman with the baby and gun are amazing too.

I had to actually google the building in the background of the Macau picture. Sure enough, it's real.

That fishnets photo is astonishing to me. To capture that sort of transcendental beauty from an environment that could be considered mundane.

I actually just got back from Hong Kong and Nha Trang last week. HK was great. But Nha Trang was just stunning.

My top 3 are woman with gun, leopard and stork, and the Macau shot. Honourable mention to golden light.

Lots of cookie cutter submissions that the editors favourited imo, like your typical Hong Kong from above seen in the OP. I enjoy the content and all, but if you check the hashtag on instagram you'll see that there are full of photos with the same motive and same colours pretty much I believe.

Nature

I was fortunate to have encountered a humpback whale with her calf on my first day snorkeling near Japan's Kumejima Island. Most of the time, the calf stayed close to her mom. At one point, the calf began jumping and tapping its tail on the water near us—it was very friendly and curious. Finally, the mother, who was watching nearby, came to pick up the calf and swim away. I fell in love completely with the calf and it's very energetic, large, and beautiful tail.

Thousands of flamingos are seen taking off from the colorful Lake Natron in Tanzania. Before taking off, flamingos need to take a short run on water to build up some speed. At that moment, their long, red legs create a series of water ripples on the surface of the lake. Looking down from the helicopter, these ripple lines look like giant aquatic plants flowing in the water. This photo was taken from a helicopter.

These natural sand towers, capped with large stones, are known as the Earth Pyramids of Platten. They are situated in Northern Italy's South Tyrol region. Formed centuries ago after several storms and landslides, these land formations look like a landscape from outer space and continuously change over the years and, more accurately, over seasons. This natural phenomenon is the result of continuous alternation between periods of torrential rain and drought, which have caused the erosion of the terrain and the formation of these pinnacles. As the seasons change, the temperatures move between extremes and storms affect the area, pyramids disappear over time, while new pinnacles form as well.

Cities

This is a view of the main street from a tram in Nagasaki on a rainy day. The tram is vintage, but retrofitted with modern ticketing equipment. A conductor is no longer on board—only the lone driver. The quiet streetscape seen through the front windshield of the tram somehow caught my attention. This view presents quite a contrast to busy urban centers in Japan, such as Tokyo and Osaka. The ride on a vintage tram through the relatively quiet main street was a memorable experience during our week-long visit to the historic city of Nagasaki.

Teotihuacan means 'the place where the gods were created,' and that's the exact feeling visitors have when they walk along the Avenue of the Dead at this Mexican archeological site. This pyramid was dedicated to the god of Sun, and I found it mesmerizing how the rising sun in the picture conquered just half the image, while the other half is in the shadows. I have always loved archeology and ancient civilizations, so I couldn't wait to visit Mexico and explore the remains of the pre-Columbian civilization. I planned my visit to Teotihuacan at sunrise, to get a combination of golden sunlight, play of shadows, and few crowds around. I flew my drone to see if the image I had in my mind was really out there:luckily for me, this frame was just waiting for my camera!

On an early morning, I wanted to photograph the fog, which is epic in Dubai every year from December to January—and almost every photographer's dream in this part of the world. Sadly, I could not get access to the rooftop and so I peeped through the glazed window on a lower floor. I was overwhelmed and excited to see how beautiful the city looks, and my excitement was quadrupled as soon as I saw the reflection of the road and building on the building facade that I was in. I immediately opened the window to the maximum permissible amount and clicked a single shot with stretched hands.

People

For a long time, I have been fascinated by the ancient Mongolian method of hunting with Golden Eagles. In early 2018, I followed one family of eagle hunters during their migration from winter camp to spring camp. Mongolia is sparsely populated, but the inhabitants have a very hospitable and welcoming culture. Tea for Kazakh culture is one of the attributes of hospitality. Tea isn't just a drink, but a mix of tradition, culture, relaxation, ceremony, and pleasure. Damel, seen here wrapped in heavy fur clothes, drinks a cup of tea to keep warm from the chilly temperatures in Western Mongolia.

Since 2016, I've been involved with Haitian immigrants and refugees living in my city, Estrela. I have become friends with some families, and especially with twin sisters, Leïda and Laëlle. They say living in Brazil is like living in paradise—very different from the reality of their country of origin. They dream of becoming models and teachers, as a way to earn money to bring their other relatives from Haiti to Brazil, to live all near one another. On this day, they were playing in front of their home, improvising exercises to develop their imagination and creativity, as if they were actresses, and playing an imitation game with poses. Laëlle reached for Leida's face and lifted her head up, showing her where she should look. At this brief moment, I took the photo.

This photograph was taken from Dhaka's airport rail station during the Eid vacation. People were returning to their village homes to spend Eid with families, and the rush at the last hour was immense. One man caught my attention: he was dangling on a train's handle with his family, trying to get inside the train. At that time, rain started and the train began to slowly move. The family had tickets to board the train, but couldn't get to their seats. There are many people like him, who come to Dhaka for work—leaving their families and home villages—so when they get vacation, they don't want to miss the opportunity to spend time with dear ones, no matter what.
