There's an item in the game called the speed belt. I feel like the default speed should be the speed of you wearing the belt.

Has anyone had trouble just launching the demo? When I launch the game through steam or just the exe, it opens the program, but it never actually starts.

Loving it so far! Didn't even have enough time to play the whole thing. That's one meaty demo!

The gun, the whip, the spear and the rapier were by far my favorite movesets.

EDIT: Is Dual Audio confirmed for this game? If so, I really hope the japanese combat voices are a lot better. I'm ok with the dialogue acting, but I can't stand hearing HAH HAH HAH YAA YAA HAH TAKE THIS anymore.

Woah, liking the Katana. The item list, crafting, and quests look like fun.

It's weird how the jumps feel floaty at first, and then my instincts take over and the game just feels right, like playing a proper mashup of all of IGA's previous metroidvanias should.

It's a known bug, I'm having the same issue. Apparently there are saves floating around that are just past that point but I'm going to wait for a fix I think. Some people are also reporting that sliding or backdashing moves the box slowly but it didn't work for me.

Ran into a really annoying bug. Don't know if it's replicable but don't do what I did.

With the drawbridge being lifted up, if you press it again to have the drawbridge lowered again and then leave the screen, the chain sounds for the drawbridge will infinitely play in the background with no music and through cutscenes.

Welp, the only controllers I have in the house are PS3 and PS4 controllers, none of which work for this new demo. The only controller I have that does work is an Xbox 360 arcade stick, but I can't proceed through the demo very far because of the lack of a right thumbstick. Looks like the demo is pretty much unplayable until I can stop by my parents' place and grab my Xbox 360 stuff.

You can use some third party software like DS4Windows or SCPToolkit to emulate a 360 controller using a DS3 or DS4. It's how I always play my PC games.

Man, this game continues to be everything I wanted. I was impressed with the first E3 demo two years ago and I'm even more impressed now.

Did anyone else catch the fact that you can do I fireball motion with the kung-fu shoes for extra powerful attack?! Too cool.

I thought it was awesome that you can even do that combo in the air.

I hope they find a way to implement some form of real time weapon switching, the weapons are too good, I want to switch all the time.

I had no idea the beta had so much stuff in it. I was expecting just the ship like last time. Also, the game is defintely up my alley.

Yeah, I've been messing around with the crafting and whatnot. The only thing that makes this a bit difficult is the lack of a bestiary in the demo, but it's still doable. I crafted myself a Flame Whip, which is my preferred weapon at the moment.

Not sure if anyones posted it yet but when you go to the deck of the ship and look to the ocean you can see Zangetsu rowing what is either a small boat or a chunk of wood past the ship

You're right! I hope they put a lot more little touches like that in the game. Details like that are why I love SotN so much.

I hadn't noticed while recording it, but I just checked various parts of the video that I uploaded earlier (which I already posted before). You can see it at 8:36 here:

The demo is playable with a DS4. Dunno if you need to install some drivers but it works. I'm certain. They even tweeted that it does.

Not sure about a DS3 though

This demo was fantastic. I really liked it. Also tweeted that pose lol, I love it. I was really surprised by the amount of content in this one. There was a lot in it, and I was pleased with that. Almost started to grind for the cute gear, but reminded myself to just save that for the full game! Also was glad for the faster weapons I could still do the short hop hit cancel. Tried with the slower weapons at first, but couldn't get it working with those. The Epee/short sword/etc. was easy to do it with though.

Some of the animations are a bit slower than the character is moving, particularly with turning, so the character is turned internally, but the animation doesn't show it at the same time the state changes, but it feels like it's just a feeeeewwww frames off. But that's about my only complaint, really. They also need to update the moon model since you can see the seams on it in that gif I posted. They're vertical.

The gameplay is great.

The art style is this weird pseudo-nostalgic late 90's pre-rendered CG backgrounds like in Fallout/Baldur's Gate/Final Fantasy VII look, but rendered in real-time.

The graphics engine suffers from some really flat lighting and really makes the pseudo-nostalgic late 90's pre-rendered CG backgrounds in real-time look really late 90's.

I honestly do not like this art style at all.

Also it's really annoying that every time you talk to an NPC there's a long drawn out conversation and you have to push the skip button to skip and then it very slowly fades out. When you hit skip it should instantly move on, and also when you're just trying to look at Dominique's shop for the 196,376th time it should just skip talking to her after the first time. Sigh.

I don't know if Konami has a copyright on the Belmont whip animation but there has to be a reason why the whip in Bloodstained works literally nothing like the iconic Castlevania version of the weapon.

There seems to be a bit of animation lock or input delay or something for me when I'm trying to backdash and I don't remember it from the old demo. I'm not sure what's going on here.

The whip animation is different but functionally it has a bigger hit box and similar active frames, so it just seems better than Simon's animation. Miriam's even has a butt load of rad anticipation frames.

On the topic of the backdash, what do you mean about an "animation lock"? Haven't had any issues with it myself.

I am loving the background detail of the environments, from the rubble of a collapsed staircase to the revolving backdrop as you first approach the castle gates. Very happy with the 2.5D aesthetic that this game has going. Also the final boss of this demo was fucking baller. Took me back to the Julius Belmont fight in AoS. :)

How does the fangamer thing work? I mean mechanically? I click a link in my email and I get to a page where it gives me an option to get the code. But, like, does that mean anyone who gets the link can view my codes? I even went into my email archives, and the link they sent me from 2016 (!) still works to modify and access my fangamer page which contains all my activation keys. The links work in other browsers and in incognito mode. Basically, anyone with this link can get my copy of RotN if they snipe it before I can access it. How is this secure?

What level are most people when fighting Zangetsu?
During my recorded play-through, I was level 9 when fighting Zangetsu. Considering the fact that I was trying to get through it as quickly as possible and didn't do any additional leveling, I'd say that you shouldn't need to level up too much beyond that if you're having difficulty with the fight.

Interesting that the shards can be upgraded by getting multiples of them ala Dawn of Sorrow. Maxed out two cause I was wondering if their rank went up but I guess not.

So, apparently the game can sometimes randomly switch to Japanese voices, if what I'm reading is correct. So they are in the demo, just disabled for some reason.

Game looks fun. I like the main character's animations quite a bit.

The environment art and enemy designs are highly inconsistent, though. At best it looks decent, at worst it looks bland and bad on a level that's a bit surprising. YMMV, I guess

So. This thread is the first time in twenty years I've found out that there's 'fighting game' inputs for weapons in Symphony Of The Night. For twenty years, I've just been mashing the attack button.

I really hope the lighting gets a big upgrade for the final version since it's pretty bad right now.

I like the gameplay. I like the difficulty of the bosses. I like most of the music (but not all). Hit and miss on the graphical style of the game. The boat definitely looked better than the latter stages of the demo. And I know not to expect great writing from an Iga game but man, could these characters get any more generic? Overly ripe dialogue too. Immediately turned the voice acting off because it's flat and just draws the cutscenes out even longer. I'm sure the game will be fun but Hollow Knight has really risen the bar for this genre.

I ran into something like that 1 time when I tried running the game while extending my desktop to my tv (2 screen setup).

I hate how the controls are inverted on the map screen. So confusing and unnecessary.

I like that breakable walls are in. That's something a lot of Metroidvanias, including games like Harmony of Dissonance, don't do and it adds a lot to these games.

Just on this: You can use DS4windows to play the demo. I did that myself and it worked great.
You should also be able to use a DS4 by enabling Steam Controller support from within Steam. One of the things this does is emulate XInput for non-XInput devices supported by Steam (which includes the DS4, Switch Pro controller, and a bunch of other random stuff). You also have a ton of flexibility with how the controller is configured, to the point where you can get the gyro controls on a PS4 or Switch controller to work in games that never had gyro support.

It's a really good feature, but it's just buried within Steam to the point where the option only shows up in Big Picture mode, which is just insane. Enable Big Picture mode, and then go under Settings -> Controller -> Controller Settings, and then turn on configuration support for the type of controller you are using (PS4/XBone/Switch/generic dinput support).
