There's more content and more gear to get but the gameplay loop and feedback and the auxiliary systems supporting it are still crap. Game is not in a good place still. After the initial rush of Warmind, playerbase is still somewhat hemorrhaging from what I understand.

Game recently got very good with the Warmind Expansion.

It´s in a really good place right now.

Worth checking out.

I agree with the last line, but not the first two. It's in a much better place right now than it was during peak Curse of Osiris shit storm (aka The Dawning), but it still needs the July update and the September update to before I'm ready to say it's in a "really good" place.

I'm still playing a lot and enjoying myself, but there are a lot of things from D1 that made it really enjoyable that are missing from D2.

Anecdotally. There was a surge of players playing the game when Warmind released that I saw from both on the friends list and on era and LFG. Now that the expansion has been out for a while, the rate of LFG posts, users interacting, and people logging in have gotten lower. It's why I put the "from what I understand" since it's not founded on facts.

EDIT: Well... good facts I mean lol.

Played through campaign co-op recently with the Best Buy GCU $7 sale. I'd say it was just okay. Story was not interesting at all, leveling up didn't feel special, weapons and loot seemed way worse than the first game. It felt more like a regular fps to me. Nothing in the campaign really stood out as a high point or memorable moment, was mostly middle-of-the-road the entire way through.

We had no desire to do any endgame stuff or MP.

Dumb question, but would this perhaps be possible that if I have the disk for the game, that downloading it digitally for free this weekend would allow me to play it through digital means instead of the disk? Or would I still need to pay for the actual digital copy itself afterwards?

This game got pretty good since Warmind came out. I've been loving my titan again and can't wait for the exotic patch update. Although I don't think I will grind out another faction this weekend, my core clan group has been enjoying the content. I seriously cannot wait for Forsaken to release!

You still need to download a shit load of files whether you have the disc or not. It doesn't help it's through PSN so download rates are complete ass.

If you havent played it, its worth giving it a go.

That said, Im keeping my powder dry for the expansion. While it seems they have seen the light and are basically giving us Destiny 1.5 (which I wish they did originally), Bungie in year 1 of Destiny 2 did not deliver a product I want to grind out.

That said, like the true sucker that I am, I'll be there day one for Foresaken.

Please stop quoting me with your shitposts.

I'm recommending people check out this game for free this weekend that I like a lot in its current state.

Really sorry you take offense with that.

I don't mind the downloads, I'm just wondering if I'd have to buy a digital copy of the base game in order to access it without the disc. I don't want to double dip, but it definitely would make accessing the game much quicker for me.

The only thing that would convince me to get Destiny 2 is if they did a complete package of it for like $40 . . . and that might not even do it because the game might be too old by the time they do that.

Why would I need the demo when I bought the game + expansion pass on release and fucking regret it?
For some reason everyone that thinks Warmind fixed the game seem to forget that MOST of us that hate on the game also own the expansion pass, which is one of the reasons we know the game sucks.

I downloaded this on wednesday and have been slowly playing the campaign and online no problem. For free it is AAA quality and I think its encounters are well designed. It starts off like a traditional shooter and I was all like "Is this a single player sci fi like halo ?" but than I got on the farm and lost the illusion.

Best looking HDR ever.

Gun veriety sucks. You have to use high recoil weapons to fight because they do more damage. The randomness of it is no fun Not well balanced like say Breath of the Wild.

Always having to go into the menu to equip loot is annoying.

This is bungies best though, and now im on titan. Gonna hopefully finish before the weekend. I play slow.

wait until september. there will likely be a version that has the base game and all the expansions in it for the standard price. and if anything the game will be way more alive in september than it is now. at this point most people are just grinding as there isn't any new content.

How was I fucking supposed to know you bought the fucking game and the fucking expansion pass and fucking regret it?

Fucking sorry fucking Warmind did not fucking do it for you.

I fucking love it.

Dude. Fucking chill. You made a statement, you were asked to clarify. How is this MY fault all of a sudden?

One would think that when someone makes a statement as all encompassing as

"Game recently got very good with the Warmind Expansion.

It´s in a really good place right now. "

they'd have a reason to back that up. Clearly, it's my fault though.

How about the end game, for one? Or lack of any meaningful loot? Or the fact that it takes them months to release a minor patch?

Not even worth it after half the shit Bungie has pulled. Secretly throttling exp so you'd be more inclined to buy their loot boxes was the last straw for me personally.

I tried so hard to like this series

The shooting and movement are both still real fucking good though. Arguably the best I've seen.

Which is a shame, because the game around it is... not.

I'm wondering this myself. Would be nice if this lets me ditch my disc easily.

I bought this and all current expansions for $40 a few weeks ago, and I couldn't believe how sucked in I got. Give it a go. I mean, it's free, so why not? It's weird that it's only the main campaign and crucible. That doesn't even give you a chance to see what the real meat of the game is.

Why would that work? You can play the digital for free this weekend, after that you'll need the disk

Also on PS4 digital and disk version of the same game are separate installs

That's why I said it was a dumb question in the first post. I actively play the game anyways so the ease of access would have been nice. lol I'm totally fine with using the disk anyways

Repetitive missions, stupid grind with worthless loot (ships and fucking emblems), stupid things like raid only mods (and other nonsensical crap), SAME enemies from D1, with same stupid ai, boring weapons (but hey, lets grind for that exotic masterwork that changes absolutely nothing), the "great" pvp, non exisiting endgame, and many, many more.
But you know what, im shitposting, because thats the only possibility when someone is dissapointed with Bungie and Destiny.

- Weapon handling is still ass. Scoping in, swapping weapons, shooting after a jump, reloading, it's all extremely clunky. Considering "gun feel" was one of D1's highlights it's amazing they decided to shit on it. This is imo the main reason why the game feels so much worse.

- Time to kill is still, on average, too high. PvE (specially in Heroic Strikes because of modifiers like Iron) feels like a slog where you slowly plink away at enemies with primaries to slowly chip health away. It's even worse post-Warmind since they made "Match Game lite" standard across the board. Not to mention PvP where Hand Cannons still can't three-tap and the meta is dominated by shooting people in another continent with Vigilance/Graviton's.

- The game still feels like an inventory management challenge more than a shooter, with far many more mods and shaders than you can actually store and no way to quickly get rid of them

- Difficulty vs reward is still completely borked. A Prestige NF is easier than a regular NF, which is easier than a Heroic Strike. It's Faction Rally week, and you still make more Faction rep running Public Events and Lost Sectors than Raids (even Prestige).

- Awkwardly enough there's still no way to select a Strike or Story mission directly

The game is in a marginally better spot than it was at launch or CoO, but that's an extremely low bar. They went back on their "let's see if moving slow as shit is fun" approach with Go Fast update, and they are slowly backpedaling on their "let's make Exotics useless and see if people like that" philosophy with a few standouts (Lunafaction, Wormhusk, Crimson, Graviton, Vigilance, Darci).

They still haven't reverted on the rest of their bad calls (double primaries, 4v4-only PvP, static rolls with a huge pool of terrible perks, etc).

I don't think anybody who really disliked D2 before will suddenly love it now. So while I'd agree with "it's worth checking out", specially for a weekend preview, I'm not sure if I'd go as far "the game is good now". I mean sure, compared to the mess it was, but there's still a lot of things they need to revert back to D1-inspired before I'd call it that.
