This is an impressive port, but I personally would play this game on a more capable system.

I've been playing this for a few hours handheld and portable. Really impressive honestly. Sure it's muddy at times but the core gameplay and atmosphere is completely here and portable. Holy hell!

Does pretty much all of the work there lol. Still amazing, though, perhaps even more so.

I don't know it might be impressive as a proof of concept, that it can be done, but that blurriness is insane. 640x360 that's like Gamecube era. I get it, it's an achievement, for this hardware, but is it really worthwhile to play on that platform. I play Doom on Switch (docked and not my Switch, I don't own the console so I cannot judge other games much) and it was absolutely dreadful, I would say in some areas borderline unplayable.

there is absolutly nothing "unplayable" in doom switch. especially not prepatch.

Probably the most technically impressive portable game besides Breath of the Wild. Panic Button did an excellent job!

I agree too its an impressive feat. But the only thing that makes me really concern is about all this blurry(which really really seems distracting). John seems to not answered me(he might think I'm downplaying the game or the video), but if anyone could answer if this blurry affects the gameplay in any way, I would be thankful.

So it's looks that blury and runs bad when the real meat of the gameplay starts?
Portability is great but damn it's 2018

Doom on the Switch was unplayable for me.

But i guess it's better then nothing

At this point they should've made a separate edition for Switch and not a raw down-port.

Going from 1080p 60 fps to 360p 30 fps is just too much to sacrifice, I liked DOOM on Switch but Wolf2 seems to run at an even lower res.

It's not 360p. That only happens in super isolated situations. It's the lowest count, not the average. It averages in the 540p range I'd estimate.

I think the image quality is mostly fine, blurry absolutely, but nothing worse than the PS360 had really often. But the moment shit goes down, man that's really blurry. But it's amazing this works, even with the cutbacks, on only seven watt. That's insane! I'm curious what else Bethesda has in the works.

Looks a bit rough as expected if they want to keep most of the checkboxes ticked and still run on Switch hardware.

And it's because it's 2018 that this kind of game is playable on a portable system, with cutting-edge mobile technology.
To be precise, it's far from cutting edge. Tegra X1 was released in 2015, and Switch uses untouched [down to the built-in exploits] but heavily down-clocked version of that.

Unfortunately, that is all that people see; the worst possible outcome. I'm not even sure there's a proper way to phrase it in order to prevent it from happening, but nevertheless, that is all that they see.

Impossible to be 100% positive every time dude. You and John need to keep that in mind. I praise the miracle port, but blurry its blurry.

I dont think its easy to answer that since its a highly subjective thing. It depends on how one feel about visual presentation/level of details and how much that affects the enjoyment of the game.

CPU aside, I kind of remember reading elsewhere that the modern Shield GPU actually downclocks to Switch's docked GPU clocks due to thermal constraints, and gets worse performance because of several reasons including the use of Android as its OS.

This is kind of off-topic, I know. I just wanted to see if anyone else can corroborate this.

Impressive for sure, but it's too much of a compromise for me when I have other platforms available to play it on. If sub-native and wonky 30 fps is the way it'll go with these ports, I don't see myself getting them for Switch. 768x432 down to 640x360 is just a deal breaker. I dropped Snake Pass for the same reason. The blurriness is just headache inducing to look at for too long.

Its NS using a 2010 Nvidia Shield specs?

how is 2015 hardware cutting-edge?

It's the most powerful handled and used, at release, the best technology that was available for its mobile factor (Tegra X1), and was considered, indeed, as cutting edge technology for the mobile market before it even released.
It's literally the best portable that could have done at that time.

It drops resolution lower than many Dreamcast games! Wow.

But still impressed they preserved the image fidelity so well.

The CPU used on Tegra X1 wasn't cutting edge in 2017 and definetly not the best tech avaliable in the mobile market.

That dosn't mean that is the most powerful portable ever created, but is not what the PSP was at it's time for example.

Okay, so i'm halfway through the game already, played it about 50-50 both in portable and docked mode. I do thinks it's a little bit on the blurry side in docked mode, but on the 6.2" screen you can't really see the resolution changes or other stuff and artifacts (even if it's running mostly at 540p in portable) and it doesn't really look blurry, given its pixel per inch ratio. Performance seems better than Doom.

Considering where the mobile tech was at the time and comparing it to similar products, it was leagues ahead.

Just compare the N-Cage QD with PSP

It doesn't really matter what spin you put on it and "consider where mobile tech was at that time", the end result was less impressive because PSP could not handle fully featured 3D AAA console ports of its era, while the Switch can. Therefore Switch is relatively more impressive in real world terms.

If you like playing your AAA ports smeared with shit.

I'm not sure I agree that this was a good choice, it looks unplayable due to the blurriness, I think cutting back effects and maybe levels more aggressively while targeting for at least constant 720p would've been better, but, perhaps this approach is easier for them to achieve.

I'm not spinning anything, we are talking about "cutting-edge", not "overall end result". PSP was cutting edge at the time, no other similar system was as powerful by a large margin. In 2017 we already had phones that powerful or more than the switch at least in the CPU side.

This is what similar products at the time were able to do:

Lol at all these people saying it looks like a youtube video.... while watching gameplay on youtube. Youtube makes HD games look like trash, the effect is amplified with games like this. You cant really judge it till you see it in person. My copy should be arriving in a couple of days hopefully!
