LOL dude blocked trades and strung them along. He's doing everything with his own interests in mind. WHICH IS FINE. But this dog and pony show is laughable.

You do realize Tavares has a No-Trade Clause (I could be wrong but it was an 8-team list)? He's allowed to block trades if he wants to. Again that doesn't mean he doesn't give a fuck, because there are other ideas such as maybe him not wanting to move mid-season (like many other players feel).

You seem to have this idea that players making moves with their interests in mind = JT faking caring about the Islanders. Which is laughable considering you'd never bat an eye about lack of "caring" if a team decides to make moves based on their own interests in mind.

I don't bat an eye because most teams don't write open letters patting players on the head and telling them they'll be ok.

My original comment was about how stupid the letter was. That's it. I don't need to spell out the irony of telling a fanbase that their future is bright when he made multiple personal decisions that ensured the Islanders got zilch out of this.

Well, the Wings signed Mike Green, that's pretty much the only thing that they need to and/or even can do at this point. If we want to be north of bottom-5 in the league for the next couple years, we need to keep the assets we have and season our talent until some of these bad contracts come off the books.

Now if the coaching staff can figure out how to run a PP...

I'm happy for the Leafs. John Tavares can lead them to the promised land of a round 2 exit and Marner will have someone who will actually show up with him to the playoffs.

The Leafs are gonna have to get good at making the best out of cheap ELC AHL graduates to fill out the roster with all the big paychecks. Cheap cheap bottom 6 wingers and 3rd pairing defenders.
Yep. Dubas/Gilman/Pridham's work is cut out for them over the next several years. Also am expecting them to continue scouting and looking at cheap European FAs every year.

Team isn't going to be able to retain very many of their Hyman and Brown type of players on long term deals

Brown I'm expecting to stay. He over performed year one and took a discount on his first contract. His play will normalize to a normal 3rd/4th liner (already started last year) and he won't be very expensive to keep.

I'm expecting pieces to go and Marlies players to come in.

I said it before, the Leafs can sustain themselves with Marlies players for a couple of years at least.

Oh I expect Hyman and Brown to stay leafs until their current contracts expire. But after that they are the types of players that the team probably won't be able keep long term, perhaps one of them would stay but idk.
