I love the music on the first level (the song that was in the E3 demo), but I really dislike the music on the other levels

Something about watching footage of someone suck at Tetris is so viscerally frustrating to me.

Game looks rad though.

Better watching one of the best Tetris players in the world play it on a TV set and through a VR set attempting to get the first Decahexatris. This guy is incredible.

Sorry, video removed.

You might want to edit out the video. The mods here don't want to provide a platform for the person who made the video. A thread about this video was closed.

That said, this guy is a great Classic Tetris player, but is clearly inexperienced with the modern Guidelines Tetris. Classic and Guidelines are different and Tetris Effect is a Guidelines game. I was a little frustrated watching him. My previous post has a video of a great Guidelines player playing Puyo Puyo Tetris.

It appears to be following the Lumines model of having a couple good songs with lyrics and then a bunch of songs that often just sound like noise. I like most of what's in Lumines 1, but there are some skins that are just downright irritating.

Looks great! Reminds me of Lumines with the music integration and all, which is a good thing because Lumines is my favorite puzzle game.

I don't know if it seems that original, but it is pretty. Also doesn't seem to really utilize VR, but I'm sure the darkness will be more immersive and the lights more dazzling. I do hope it comes to PC / PCVR.

There's just something about this game. A franchise that's old as dirt with a refreshing spin on it.

Digging everything I see.

I don't know if I like the crosscultural references. Looks a bit arbitrary and I'd honestly prefer a more abstract style in the likes of Thumper. Referencing a rite doesn't make playing Tetris more of a rite for me. Showing underwater animals doesn't make it more immersive. The qualities of the game are already in its ritual and also in its "immersive" or "hypnotic" effect. But I don't need symbols that represent these ideas while playing. Hoping for a highly customizable interface and more abstract designs.

There's a strong implication that the game is reiterating the "journey of life" visual themes from birth to death to reincarnation that is evident in many of Mizuguchi's games.

It just occurred to me that playing this will be a bit like playing Guitar Hero or Rock band. Your attention will be completely honed in on the playing field, and the only people seeing the graphics outside of that are observers.

The Tetris legend Trey Harrison tries out Tetris Effect for the first time. Interesting to note that he becomes immediately better as soon as he puts the VR goggles on. The low latency seems to have a great effect. :)

Is it bad that this may be the thing that makes me purchase a PSVR headset?
I already own a VIVE so its definitely financially irresponsible, but... Tetris is my jam.

Looks interesting. I prefer columns though :D

Why don't we have a new Columns yet.? Clotho is one of my favourite puzzle game tracks.
Puyo Puyo Columns maybe?

That's what I'm afraid of. That is my least favorite level in REZ. Disliked most of Child of Eden because of it. I don't know what makes Tetris suitable to esoteric thought (like The Witness, even if the emphasis is different). Maybe because it's based on abstract rules? These kind of "story" in puzzle games feel more often than not like a poor interpretation of and/or free associating to something that is inherently abstract. Like a game-made reaction to prove the narrative qualities of a puzzle game. And if it takes general tones like this, it becomes rather ridiculous to me and has the opposite effect of what it tries to do (pulling me more into the game). You might as well argue that everything is part of this cycle. Tying your shoes, scratching your ear, taking a shit, you name it. I could be just as "immersed" in a 4k backdrop of a sizzling steak if presented accordingly. Guess I'll have to wait and see how the full game turns out.

This looks super nice, that playfield could be bigger though, I doubt I will be able to see anything from across the room.

The title song is so good it almost makes me tear up. It touches me deeply somehow. I hope there are more skins like that one, the others seemed worse to me. Still a day one buy for me!

Well for me, I'll be playing right at my desk. I'll be able to "see" I ... just would like it bigger. I used to play Lumines (many hours) on psp and vita.

Pull your chair away from your desk. Sit down and start up the game in VR. Then scoot forward into your normal position.

I'm getting The New Tetris vibes from this, in that it has it's own idiosyncrasies about it that make it a unique and pleasing gameplay experience both visually and in terms of audio, not just music.
