I saw this yesterday but I waited to have a link in english to share. This is the most accurate one I've found : https://www.pinknews.co.uk/2018/07/...med-for-shocking-remark-on-same-sex-marriage/
I'm not quoting everything so please read the article. Note that he's interrupting the Minister of Gender Equality... This was hours after the Gay Pride march in Paris.

Action movie star Jean-Claude Van Damme was criticised by the French minister for Gender Equality Marlène Schiappa for talking about same-sex unions in the same breath as dogs getting married.

The Belgian actor appeared on French television on Saturday night as a guest of the "On n'est pas couché" talk show, which featured minister Schiappa among other panelists discussing a series of topics, including feminism.

Van Damme first clashed with the minister early on in the programme, rudely interrupting her as she spoke about the female identity. He let out a whistle and an "Oh my god" before proceeding to ask who would take care of the children if all women had a job. Unflappable, Schiappa called out Van Damme's behaviour as "mansplaining," defining the English term to the French audience.

[...]

Later on, Van Damme returned on the issue of taking care of the children which, according to him, was a woman's prerogative, while the husband's role was to work and provide for his family.
This time, Schiappa questioned him about same-sex couples, which have been able to get married in France since 2013. "According to your theory, if a man marries another man or a woman marries a woman, how does that work?" she asked.

"Men marry other men?" Van Damme replied, looking confused. "Men get married, women get married, dogs get married… Everybody is getting married and everybody is getting divorced," he added, attempting to make a joke.

[...]

As the audience laughed, Schiappa held the actor to account for his tone-deaf remarks, reminding him of the Pride parade that just hours earlier had marched through the streets of the French capital—despite homophobic acts of vandalism taking place in previous days. "I'm sorry, but this is not funny. This is the day of the Pride parade where people march to defend their rights," she said.

"I find this shocking," she continued. "There are people who are beaten and insulted because they are homosexual, we need to support them rather than mocking them, saying they are dogs."

[...]

Van Damme tried to defend himself. "I have a lot of friends who are gay," he said, as if having gay friends automatically excuses people from making homophobic remarks. "If they want to get married, that's ok," Van Damme continued. "But the question is, if all the boys marry each another and all the women marry each other, how are we going to have children?" he tried to joke, once again, soliciting laughter and applause from the audience.

Videos are in french only.
Mansplaining level 100:

And drawing a direct line between same-sex couples and dogs:

So :
  • Comparing homosexuals to animals ✓
  • If all the women work, who will take care of the children ✓
  • If all the men marry other men and all women marry other women, how will we make babies ✓
  • I have gay friends ✓

Not much more to say, except fuck off Jean-Claude. Sad to note that the french host is one of the most famous we have, and he's gay. He just doesn't give a fuck, sadly, and takes everything as a joke.

Oh and I've seen many comments bashing the minister because she says he's comparing homosexuality to zoophilia, and people being like "ACHTUALLY, zoophilia is the act of humans having sex with animals and that's not what he said, he talked about homosexuals, THEN he mentionned dogs".
Because yeah the most important thing here is to point out this technicality. /s

Props to the minister for managing to remain calm, but you can clearly see that she's litterally staggered by the sheer idiocy of JCVD. Like someone pointed out in a comment, the way she looks at the end (in the Twitter link) can remind of the camera looks in The Office, when the stupidity has reached such a critical level that you almost zone out and look for an escape.

Yeah he has always said stupid shit and it's surely not the first time he says something offensive. But going out of his way to interrupt a woman, who happens to be the minister for Gender Equality, by litteraly whistling to shut her up... That's just, wow. And that's only the start, he manages to one up himself until the end.
This, and the fact that the host is gay and just laugh is quite disheartening, even if it doesn't surprise me (I've never seen him take anything seriously and I've seen him a few times make jokes about his sexuality, but it's a bit different here imo).

The fact that the audience claps at JCVD comments also reminded me why I don't watch TV anymore. I'm not sure I would have made a thread if the host had put him in his place and if the audience had booed him. But the whole thing is just disgusting.

I've always known he was a piece of shit, so this doesn't surprise me. The man is doing Tostitos commercials and dropping further down that hole of irrelevancy. His mindset never left the 80s-early 90s.

I'm not culturally French but from what I understand this kind of provocative, even antagonistic, dialog is normal for these sorts of shows, isn't it?

I firmly believe it'll be hard not to be disappointed by plenty of the older famous people, maybe 30 or 40 years from now the proportion of assholes and idiots with this mindset will heavily decrease, hopefully.

Hardly surprising given that he has no qualms severely beating women into unconsciousness. Scum spewing more vile scum is not exactly a shocking revelation.

"But the question is, if all the boys marry each another and all the women marry each other, how are we going to have children?"

Just a thought... maybe heterosexual relationships and marriages will still exist just because you let gay people get married?

I know, shocker.

Because honestly, if you think that when gay marriage is allowed that suddenly straight relationships somehow won't exist to make children, doesn't that suggest you believe everyone is a deep-closet homosexual? But then again, I don't expect dirtbags to think their backwards ideas all the way through.

Hahahahah holy shit how funny....

I heard a story from a very reputable source about him on set of a movie doing a bunch of coke and having sex with a male co-star, constantly. He described them as two teenage girls who had just discovered sex LOL

Guess he still cant deal with it

This seems like asking for the opinion of the local postman. I don't think there's any social value in what Jean Claude Van Damme thinks about anything.

There's a lot of stupidity on display here, but this bit made me laugh.

"But the question is, if all the boys marry each another and all the women marry each other, how are we going to have children?"

Imagine how intellectually stunted you have to be to posit this.

All these action stars are conservative assholes, from Jackie Chan to Jean Claude. Arnold is the goat because although he is conservative at least he's still a good person.

Yeah there are some shows like this known for roasting the guests more than anything. It's always been this way, but one good aspect of social media is that now people can be heard and call out the most offensive stuff. Honestly I remember seeing really creepy stuff and behaviors on live TV when I was a kid, but there was just no way for people to voice their concerns. French talk shows are mostly terrible and the gimmick is to make fun of people most of the time. But sexism, homophobia and racism don't fly as well as they did even 5 years ago.

Jean Claude already has a history of being awful so this does not surprise me. He even used the I have a gay friend excuse , like that excuses him.

Was it a secret that Van Damme is an idiot? I like him in movies ironically, but he's definitely stupid.
