How does Shenmue compare to the Yakuza series?
Shenmue 1 has more attention to detail, like all NPCs having their own character and schedule, a calendar and uses combat sparsely. Yakuza is more of an action game, with street fights on every corner. I wouldn't really compare them but on superficial level.

I remember years ago that people said this or Shenmue 3 would ever happen. What a time to be alive :)

Huh, odd that there are two threads.

Never-the-less:

Also on the Australian PSN.
$47.95 but has a 10% PS+ discount so $43.15. 21 August 2018 (which means 20th August for everyone else if they want a 'same day' release).

A tale of revenge.

In 1986, teenage jujitsu artist Ryo Hazuki returns to the dojo of his father, Iwao Hazuki, only to witness his murder by a Chinese man, Lan Di. Lan Di steals a mysterious artifact known as the Dragon Mirror. Ryo vows to avenge his father's death and sets out tracing Lan Di's path.

The best Shenmue experience:
- Updated user interface
- Choice of modern or classic controls
- Japanese audio available for the first time for a global audience
- Fully scalable screen resolutions

An epic legend:
- A tale of revenge on a grand scale
- Solve the mystery of your father's murder
- An experience never to be forgotten

The world feels alive:
- Talk to anyone, scour the world for clues
- NPCs live independent lives on their own schedule
- Faithful recreations of 1980s Japan and Hong Kong, China
- Distract yourself with arcade games, collectibles, duck racing, and more

In-game purchases optional

Is the audio supposed to be cleaned up/remastered/imported from the source audio? Or is it more or less going to be as muffled as the original releases?

We don't know yet. Steam DL is supposed to be 30GB though, so I'm guessing HQ audio is in.

Where are you seeing that quote? Can't find it on either the Xbox Store listing or Steam.

EDIT: NVM, found it on the PS listings. Sounds like a mistake, or some boilerplate text made it onto the listing.

If the PC port is good I will probably buy it, I just hope it's not a Dreamcast vs Xbox scenario again particularly regarding the lighting.

Any update on the Retrobit releasing those Dreamcast controllers? Would be perfect for a play through.

Not to port beg or anything but does anyone know the reason this is not coming to Switch? Did Sega ever give an explanation as to why? It just does not make any sense to me. :(...
Sorry if this has been answered before. Other than that, can't wait to waste countless hours on the damn forklift haha...
No switch version yet

I don't believe D3T even wrote the emulator in that collection anyway. It's most likely the same one SEGA have been using since last gen. D3T specifically point out they only did the "bedroom" hub and the additional features/functionality, as well as the shovel work getting it to consoles.

That may be true, but the whole product is kind of crummy, from the barebones features to the multiplayer. However, I'd sooner pin that on SEGA than d3t.

Is this getting a physical release?
Yes, on PS4 and XBO.

The game is literally listed on both consoles' own store pages with an exact date. There's no denying that's the release date now.
More in reference to some wording on the PS listings that isn't present on the Xbox/Steam stores. I know you can't put the cat back in the bag with the release date.

Ultimately D3T are work-for-hire, and SEGA do have a habit of treating their 16-bit catalogue like money for old rope, so I guess so.

I'm afraid to replay these today. Looking at a couple of videos the seem to have aged quite badly.

The one saving grace must be the aweful voice acting though. That will always be entertaining to sit through. :)

Yep. August 20th at 9:00 PM sounds like a West Coast situation. It sometimes releases there three hours early when the East Coast crosses over into the new day right?

Plus the fluctuating prices are because of different regions. $30 USD and $48 AUD, when converted, is almost the same ($48 AUD is roughly $33 USD).

The date and costs seem to be locked in, but whoever these people are seem to be staying on the side of caution.

As someone who loves Yakuza and Shenmue a bit too much (hehe), it's kinda cool and bad that they release back-to-back (Kiwami 2 comes out a week after the Shenmue HD collection). That being said: I can't wait to finally look for sailors again. It's been so long since the last time I played through Shenmue 1 and 2.

Really looking forward to this. Especially finally getting to play 1 with Japanese VO. I know these games have some fundamental issues (though I'm not sure if they're planning to clean up some mechanics?) but they really hold a special place in my memory that I don't mind reliving, regardless of faults.

Wait, what's this?? :O

Edit: Nevermind, did a quick google search. I would down for a playthough with these!

Now I kinda hope SEGA have more up their sleeve than a release date because they didn't even get a chance to reveal it...extra features or something...I'm not holding my breath though. The storefront descriptions don't mention any new info.

I'm really excited to see how first timers react to these games, can't wait to play through them again.
