I have for the longest time been gaming on my PC on an OLED at 60hz, while you can't beat the image the OLED provides i recently got new monitor, 1440p 144hz and this is probably the best purchase i have made in a long time, IQ does take a hit from 4k to 1440p but once you get to play a game at over 100 frames with Gsync/Freesync enabled is the best thing a gamer can witness, if you are on the fence do not hesitate anymore, specially with so many affordable options now, the monitor i got is relatively cheap and i think is amazing, if you have a Gsync/Freesync monitor share which one is it and recommend some for those thinking about getting one! i have to thank Jeff6851 since i got the one this user recommended.

Amazon

But is also currently on sale at Microcenter for $300 dollars if you happen to have one nearby.

My PC is very shit so I can only play old games and Indies at higher refresh rates, but it's so goddamn pleasing on the eyes.

High Refresh Rate >>>>>>>> Extra Pixels

Once I went 120Hz G-Sync there was no going back. To hell with 4K until GPUs are so monstrous that 4K 120Hz is a reality.

Upgraded to 144 G-Sync a few years ago. Impossible to go back. Recently upgraded to an ultrawide, which is also a game changer.

I'm just glad that i can easily switch between my PC + 144hz monitor with freesync and my consoles(30FPS) and TV without it bothering me at all. I don't even have to adjust to it or anything.

That monitor works with nvidia gsync? Or didn't it pass their "tests"?
it does Work with Gsync but it didn't pass Nvidia test because they require Freesync to be on, this monitor has the option to turn it off, it works great, no issues at all, if you want to check a review of the monitor see the video below.

I'm one of the very few unimpressed Gsync, it doesn't make much difference to me. There is a real difference to 144hz, but it hasn't been a game changer at all. My dual monitor set up includes an OLED 60hz monitor, and I couldn't care less which I use, though for movies I use the OLED.

1440p is minimum standard for playing games in front of a PC screen now, though. That I can't come back from.

Yeah it's the best upgrade I made for my system. Barely turn the TV on anymore... Gotta get a 120Hz TV as priority next.

On my 27inch, I can barely tell the difference between 1440p (native) and 4K SS. So I just go with higher frames every time. Now I find myself dropping the quality of games just to chase that absurd smoothness. No tearing without vsync is also amazing.

144Hz+ Gsync/Freesync is the current PC gaming baseline experience and I'm content. Next step is a proper 4K 120Hz GPU for that sexy 77" OLED 4K HDR @ 120Hz(VRR). Mmmmm, delicious.

Yeah 144Hz + Gsync has made the biggest difference maker for me in the last 5yrs at least. People content with 30fps really just haven't seen the difference.

I really want to get a HFR 1440p monitor, but I want something that also supports HDR and a 4K signal (so PS4 Pro doesn't drop to 1080p). Does anyone know of monitor with these specs?

Yep, I've got one from a few years ago.

60fps goes from being the goal to being the minimum. My rig is fearing the day Cyberpunk releases.

The Samsung 27CHG70 accepts the 4k signal from the Pro and downscales it to the screens native 1440p and looks great in doing so.

This monitor also works with the Xbox 1440p 120hz update (which doesnt do much) plus the Freesync works flawless with Nvidia.

144Hz+ yes, GSync/Freesync eh. I have both but GSync is the sort of thing you only notice after not having it around for a while, provided you have enough horsepower to push over 60 fps, that is. Framerates over 100 add so much clarity and responsiveness, though, it's true.

Those specs look great, but it looks like there are some major quality control issues from the reviews I just read.
Thanks for the tip though.

Now try all that in ultrawide anf u will never go back to anything below.
Few months ago I was on a gsync monitor hunt, nailed it down to two Acer Predators - XB27 and the ultrawide X34P. Tried the same ultrawide model at a friend's place and to my surprise it was a huge pain if the game doesn't support ultrawide resolutions. Ultimately a deal breaker for me and went with the XB271HU.
I mean it was an experience from 8 or so months ago, hope it's better now, but then, on the games I've tried, we had problems from gsync not engaging (StarCraft II and PUBG, something with the fullscreen mode) to game not launching at all (Guild Wars 2). But when it does work, its just jaw dropping.

But OP is right - going to tear-free 165hz is godlike upgrade for me and I find it hard to play comfortably anything below 120 on PC. Actually it degraded my enjoyment of consoles a bit, too.

I admit this one is my second display but having a Best Buy close it wasnt an issue returning my first one. I have had this one over a year now and the panel is damn near flawless.

Decided to go one step further and got myself an ultra wide high refresh monitor. It's absolutely unreal. I'm also a complete idiot in buying one. Had to justify my 2080TI somehow.

Agreed. Up until yesterday I was playing at 1080p60. Then, thanks to a "19% off on everything" sale Media Markt did yesterday and today I got this bad boy...
u6vlSBV.jpg

The PG278QR for about 470 bucks instead of 700 (it was already reduced in price in addition to the 19%). And to get a proper framerate boost I upgraded from the GTX 970 to the RTX 2060 for about 310 bucks. The picture quality on the screen is just freaking beautiful. I don't know if I could ever go back to 60Hz again after this.

When I got mine I wasn't that impressed, but the jump from 1080p to 1440p was nice, then a few months later my freesync and 144hz refresh got turned off by some update, and I started to play at 60fps and I thought something was legit broken.

Then I turned it back on and realised that 60fps is freakin awful when you get use to 144hz, it's strange because the initial feeling was that it wasn't a big deal.

Heresy, I know, but but I can barely tell the difference between 60 and 144 and I know for a fact that it's functioning properly. I see it most in scrolling on websites, but that's really it.

100%.

My 2080 / 2700x PC runs most demanding games around 90-100fps and with g-sync I never even notice frame drops unless they go under 60, and even then the g-sync makes it far, far more tolerable.

144hz is also incredible I couldn't switch back to lower.

Just an amazing combination: 144hz, 1440, g-sync.

Yes. Its why PC gamers have been going hard on 144-165 FPS locked or higher. Its just fucking surreal the upgrade to your gaming when you have this on and steady.

Theres no going back.

High refresh rate plus adaptive sync really is a game changer, more so than HDR and 4k in my opinion.

It's even better on an ultrawide monitor.

If you played exclusively in 144 and 144 fps or even just 100 fps or so for a few months, then went back to 60fps you would notice.

If you dropped to 60hz 60fps you would REALLY notice.

Imo.

It sure is.

144 + gsync/freesync is so much better than 60fps for fast-paced/competitive games it's ridiculous. You can react so much more quickly.

Yep, it's incredibly good. As much as the higher refresh rate is important, so too is the variable refresh. I found a $199 32" 1440p 75Hz Freesync for an upgrade for a buddy on 60hz, and he has already said it's impossible to go back. Framerates naturally fluctuate, and having to try to lock 60 involves so many negatives (lag in vsync, or lag when you miss 60hz and it doubles a frame, or frame tearing with vysnc off, ugh).

AC: Oddysey is the only game it does not not run at 100 plus frames, so i cap the frame at 60 for consistency and it has make me not want to play the game lol, it legit looks like there's something wrong with the monitor, everything at 100+ simply looks super clean, blur free.

High framerates are pure bliss, imo. Much more important to me than resolution. I'm debating updating my GPU from an AMD 480 4GB to a 2070 Super or 2080 Super while sticking with my 144hz/1080p freesync panel (I checked, it's good with g-sync now). Love the idea of maxing games and getting 100+ fps with ease.

This is how I feel too. Actually, the biggest difference for me is the cursor in Windows. But in gaming I didn't feel anything.

How much difference do you notice between 120hz and 144hz?

I picked up an Alienware aurora with an RTX 2080. There's a deal on for the LG ultra wide with 120hz Gsync, but the Freesync variant with 144hz is $120 more expensive. Is it worth the extra cost for the 24hz extra?

This thread fills me with hope. I just got myself a 27 inch, 1440p, 144Hz Gsync monitor last week and now I'm really looking foward to it more than before.

I have been playing on my 1080p 60hz monitor for so long that I was ready for the change
