June Update:

So many big games, still, but they've all been great so I can't complain too much. Finally have been focusing on Skyrim a bit and making some serious progress. I might actually finish it this year!

Been thinking about how the rest of the year is going to shape up. There's the "Big 4" of Red Dead, Smash, Spider-Man and Hitman. I was planning to check out Vampyr and the two Yakuza games, but I feel like the Shenmue HD release might change that up a bit.

After so many new games, though, I think July-September are going to be mostly for backlog stuff. I'm just not sure which games I want to do, just yet. Picked up System Shock 2 during the Steam sale, and I'm really looking forward to finally playing that. Penciling that in as my Halloween game for now.

July Update:

Backlog! And back to level par. I beat Skyrim and finished most of the big quest-lines (Civil War, Thieves Guild, Dark Brotherhood, etc.) and while I'm still picking away at it during lunch, I'm considering it done. I'm just passing the time until my next Switch game.

Also finished Donkey Kong Country and am most of the way through Thief 3. Unsure how the rest of the month is going to shape up. I've got a lot of ideas on what to play next (some XBLA stuff including Braid, more SNES Classic games, the next few Halo games). I think it will depend on how games like We Happy Few and Death's Gambit turn out, and whether or not I want to do Shenmue when it comes out or wait a little bit. Spider-Man is my next absolute, day-one purchase so I think I'll keep things pretty flexible until then.

I almost forgot to post my update. An okay month, I guess, seeing as I spent most of it playing Tales of Symphonia. It's a long game with a really slow first act, so I didn't put much time into it at first. It did hook me eventually though and I even finished it a couple times because I HAD to see all the content I'd missed in my first playthrough. Then as a bit of a breather before Yakuza Kiwami 2 came out, I finished a few short games. Gorogoa and Old Man's Journey have been on my radar since they came out and since they were both on sale, I bought and finished them. Great games. And DuckTales Remastered was picked on a whim because the store I ordered Yakuza from shipped it a day late. I didn't realise how short it was and expect to finish it when I started it but that was a nice surprise.

September is Yakuza Kiwami 2, Spider-Man and Dragon Quest XI month, so I won't be finishing much. I'll be lucky if I even finish two.

I had no idea what my score would be this month. Usually I keep track of it at least a little but I didn't even know if I would have a positive or negative score. Huh.
Didn't beat anything in the second half of August and that continued for half of September too. I did play games, I just played stuff I can't beat or won't complete in years and didn't really care about the backlog. Then Spider-Man happened and it started an avalanche which resulted in 12 games beaten in two weeks.

September Update:

Mostly a Spider-Man month. This will be a horror game month; that is, until it becomes a Red Dead month.

System Shock 2 is the latest "wall of shame" game up, and depending on how things shake out I am going to try to squeeze in a replay of RE2. I want to at least do one of the scenarios again as sort of a refresher for the remake, because it's been over 10 years now since I last played through it.

Another decent month. I spent the first third playing Yakuza Kiwami 2, the last third playing Spider-Man and got some ZoE done in between, since the ZoE2 PS4 remaster reminded me I still had them in my backlog. ZoE2 really holds up, it's a great game and so are Kiwami 2 and Spider-Man. I also uh, started the uh, PS3 version of MGSV... Why? I don't know, I felt like playing some MGSV, it was in my backlog and I was curious how it turned out. It isn't bad, in fact it's really impressive this game runs and looks so good on PS3 but the framerate is pretty rough. Still, now that I've started it, I'm trying to finish it up before I can finally dive into DQXI.

Haven't updated in about 6 weeks due to life, Destiny 2 Forsaken and Spider-Man :)
I put in quite a few hours in the two games I'm listing as abandoned as I have no desire to play them any more and won't go back to them so I'm removing them from my backlog. Since I preordered several games after E3, and already counted them previously, have been able to get by without "buying" any more games right now, though I'm resisting on giving in and buying Black Ops.

I had no idea what my score would be this month. Usually I keep track of it at least a little but I didn't even know if I would have a positive or negative score. Huh.
Didn't beat anything in the second half of August and that continued for half of September too. I did play games, I just played stuff I can't beat or won't complete in years and didn't really care about the backlog. Then Spider-Man happened and it started an avalanche which resulted in 12 games beaten in two weeks.
But I started Breath of the Wild the other day and Black Flag is starting to get its hooks into me too so I don't think that will continue into October. :D

See you a lot in the 52 games a year thread. Quick question as I am tallying up everything for my backlog. For a system like the NES/SNES Classic (And soon to be PS) would you count all the games on that system as part of your backlog? I have a detailed excel thread I keep track of standard titles but didn't know best way to count
those.

Edit: And to add on what about games on services like Gamepass where you don't 'Buy' the game but beat it.

Going to use the Classic's logic you used for PS+/Gold titles as well. Should be a fun tallying it all up. Just from games I have beat this year I am at +18, but that does not count games bought I have not beat....... We should be in the red very shortly haha,

At the end of the day, I think most people would agree that since it's your collection/backlog feel free to set your own standards :)

For the sake of this thread I think some would just appreciate that we stay consistent within the "rules" we set for ourselves
By that I mean....using my Bubble Bobble example....since I'm not counting it as part of my backlog I shouldn't count it as a game "beaten" if I do wind up playing through it.

I differentiate a bit between my "collection" and my backlog. Not that I collect games but I get some games from bundles and my SO buys games that I don't know if I wanna beat, so they don't go into my backlog when I acquire them. I might add them later tho when I have tried them or read about them. So for the PS1 Classic (that I plan to buy), I would add say the 10 games that I know I wanna beat and leave out the rest for the time being. If I then for some reason get interested in another game I add that one when that happens.
Every game I get that I want to beat goes onto Backloggery (and with that, in my backlog) and get counted as a -1. Doesn't matter if I borrow it, if I have beaten it before on another system or it pops up in a subscription service like EA Access or PS+ "for free"/rented. If I wanna beat it it's a -1, and then it's also a +1 when I do beat it. Basically, it doesn't matter how I acquired the game! :D

Examples:

It isn't quite the end of the month but I've finished everything I will.

Decent month. Everyone seems to be playing RDR2 but I probably won't get it till December or January. So I only "bought" one new game this month: The Bridge via PS+. And I finished three: The Bridge, MGSV and, most importantly, DQXI. I think I final time playing DQXI was just under 100 hours and it was time well spent. What an amazing game, probably the best turn-based JRPG I've played since Persona 4 Golden. And now I'm playing the worst old school Resident Evil lol.

I AM FREEEEE! I've been playing Breath of the Wild for over 155 hours and I am finally done! I don't know the exact playtime but my Switch said "more than 155 hours" so it officially beat Monster Hunter as the game I spent most time with this year.

• Zone of the Enders 1 (PS3) - What the fuck?! It's a nice idea gone bad on the way to a final product. It felt like a beta of a PS1 game. Strange thing.
• Nano Assault EX (3DS) - This game is just stunning on a technical point of view. I was impressed a lot. Oh, and it's a nice little Shoot'em'up. I didn't like the sequences between the "zones"
• Mighty Switch Force (3DS) - It sat on my 3DS for a long times. There were only three missions left and I finally got it. Was frustrated before and just put it away for a long while.
• Crossing Souls (PS4) - Platinum! Well, the platforming feels a bit strange, especially in fast sections of the game it is pretty frustrating. What pissed me off the most, was the respawn points they chose when you died. Most of the times they were at the beginning of a section, several minutes from where you died, and you had to collect everything again. Overall it was a fun little game, but nothing too special. I laughed at some of the references. But I think I have had enough of "'member?! Back in the days!" for a while now ...

A +0 month but a good one. RE0 and Tales of Symphonia DotNW have been on my backlog for years, so it was nice to finish them even if I didn't particularly like them. I also managed to both add and finish Burly Men at Sea, which is a neat little game. And I added two of the AC Chronicles games cause they were dirt cheap and I had some credit on my account. Both seem like they'll be short, so I should be able to clear them off my backlog in early December.

September Update:

Mostly a Spider-Man month. This will be a horror game month; that is, until it becomes a Red Dead month.

System Shock 2 is the latest "wall of shame" game up, and depending on how things shake out I am going to try to squeeze in a replay of RE2. I want to at least do one of the scenarios again as sort of a refresher for the remake, because it's been over 10 years now since I last played through it.

November update

Late update, and nothing good to report. First negative month of the year. :( Just super busy lately, and also playing through Dark Souls 2, which turned out to be really long. I would have finished with a neutral 0, but a friend stayed over for a couple days, so I grabbed Overcooked for some coop, but we didn't have time to finish it. Things are unlikely to get any better in December due to Christmas presents... Ah well. Will do better than last year, at least.
