I wanted to read some more excitement about the best episode of Dynamite in a long time, so I went to the only wrestling site I could think of, 411 Wrestling, to read their review! BUT their reviewer dared to give it a 6.5! "Average"?? "All over the place"?? MAIS NON

Makes me wish our dear friend Rivenblade was still with us and writing his cheery reviews.

Time to make fake positive reviews to fill the niche.

I kinda disliked the whole show outside of the casino gauntlet and ending TK crime payment. Mercedes Willow reminds me too much of Saraya Britt in awkward heel/face dynamics and I don't think I'm getting past Mercedes being the ceo of nothing while people occasionally chant it alongside the chant being part of her intro music.

Riven thought it was mid lol

i liked the show, and i thought weekly aew has been mid for a spell

and i'll give credit to like rapidfire women's segments and that wild af anti-royale match helping and ofc tony khan paying for his crimes

but then also it's a divisive jericho (as he is wont to be) mercedes had a thing but her appearance on screen is arguably detrimental until she finally wrestles, and no strong swerve segment

so looking back on it the show was like, accidently really good

For what it's worth, I thought the show was very entertaining. My biggest issues were its technical problems, and--more importantly--the fact that Swerve sorta came across as an afterthought.

Dynamite very much felt like a new season, as it should be following a PPV: lots of characters on screen with new and continuing storylines to further develop for the Double or Nothing season finale. I am very intrigued about where things are going and certainly looking forward to next week. AEW will always deliver on the wrestling, but it's been awhile since I've been invested in a story as much as I am w/ this Elite angle.

So... I guess mission accomplished for me hah

it's crazy how things that are dunked on pop ratings

same thing happened to the infamous Daddy Ass vs Jay White match

attitude era guys are still great draws to this day

also they got to stop having Kyle Fletcher have competitive matches with people who should be way above him. one of AEW's big problems is that it's just all midcard. aside from designated monsters squashing jobbers, anyone could have like a 50/50 match against the top guys

I don't think they're an actual draw, but they are recognisable enough that anyone channel hopping who remembers them will stop and say "Is that Billy Gunn/Jericho/Sting from 25 years ago?".

Recognisable enough to increase a segment number but not an actual draw where people will go out of their way to tune in to watch them on purpose.

I could be wrong but the alternative is people want to see Billy Gunn on TV in 2024, and I just can't bring myself to believe that.

I had to listen to John and wais review on what the fuck that battle royale was last night. Crowd was so confused when people kept coming out last night, they took all of 0 seconds to explain the match or stakes.

I haven't watched any wrestling in about 6 months. It's probably the longest stretch of time I haven't seen wrestling in 20 plus years. So much has been going on in my life with work and relationships and I've been so mentally tired. A couple weeks ago I quit my job and ended a toxic relationship. And last night I finally felt like sitting down and watching dynamite. And I'm glad I did. Actually felt excited and happy and when the show ended I was in such a good mood. I laughed and had a good time with my brother. Jericho's promo was great. Watching The Young bucks TK tony was hilarious. I needed that.

I always like hearing people finding joy in hard times. Honestly props to you for doing both those things as usually they're too difficult to do and people just remain in their personal hell. Stay strong. Neck Strong.

They did explain it poorly because I only understood what was going of half way though. I do like that format that. It keeps it interesting.

I agree, the format is fun. But please don't just do a new match and skip the explanation, it did zero favors for those involved in the match. But the surprise Ospreay pop was the loudest of the night

Oh yeah I don't know when they explained it. Maybe it was the audio issues but I missed it. I texted my friend and he qued me in.
The Ospreay pop was great. The Ospreay and Jay White face-off was incredible.

It did make the wrestlers look less stupid for posing and wasting time when there were still only two or three participants in the match. Had the audience known the rules, they would have asked themselves why everyone isn't rushing to make a pin after every move.

They didn't explain it. The commentators before the match said Justin Roberts would explain the rules, but he didn't.

So they just had to keep repeating the "sudden death" line during the match and saying they don't know who's in this thing. It was a very weird situation.

The same thing happened at Wembley they never explained the rules of the tag team coffin match. It was hard to tell from my seat there live if there was more than one coffin or if the coffin was big enough for two people. So we were left guessing if the match would end when one person was put in the coffin. By the end it was obvious, but still a lot of folks around me trying to guess at the start and middle.

It let's people get their shit in better than an over the top.

I actually don't like over the tops as a concept. The rumble works because it's treated like a big deal but generally not my jam

I didn't even know Dynamite was "live" on the West Coast last night until it was almost over. I usually watch it at least slightly time-shifted anyway to skip through ads. I don't know why we're still paying so much attention to outdated metrics anyway in an age where viewing habits are naturally all over the place. We know a lot more people are "viewing" AEW than the amount estimated for the Wednesday night 8 PM broadcast.

While I died laughing at the TK bump I still feel like Perry should hold resentment towards the Bucks as well. I think it would've been funny if at the end of the episode the elite are all celebrating and Jack gives them a very clear smirk behind their backs. Later on it can be revealed he basically used the bucks to get back into AEW and wants to fuck over even the EVPs for apparently having the authority to suspend Hangman and yet not the power to unsuspend him. Let him be the face people want him to be while being a dick but I know WON will have a meltdown over the ambiguous face and heel spectrum lol.

The elite were also suspended by TK for the same reason. They've got a shared resentment.

Sammy returns: "Can I join The Elite too?"

Jericho: "You've got a lot of learning to do still, come meet our new Hager."

Kyle Fletcher has now had super competitive matches with Ospreay (their biggest new star) and Swerve (the newly crowned champion). I like Fletcher just fine but I agree, he should NOT be booked this strongly. Like cool he can put on a banger, he doesn't need to be booked like a juggernaut kicking out of finishers multiple times.

TK doesn't book squashes against signed talent. It's just his booking style. It's sort of G1 style booking where everything goes 12-18 minutes minimum.

I personally don't mind it but it's VERY odd for American wrestling.

I'd put Fletcher in my top five right now. Dude is awesome. I have zero problems with him getting showcased as a guy to watch out for in the future. I mean, nobody was complaining when Takeshita was having competitive matches with a bunch of upper card talent before he was even officially signed.

The AE-Dub roster is a shark tank. Main eventers shouldn't be easily squashing everyone beneath them. They should always be (kayfabe) fighting to keep their spot.

Yeah, the GMSI is better for this then a Rumble / Royale. The main problem is it would be insane if you had 30 people in this. Even 10 might be too many, but anything over 10 just escalates in terms of ridiculousness.

Yeah I think the logic is these are the best of the best.

That said I think it does build 'stars' by letting them squash other talent often to show power tiers or whatever. But it's just not how TK books

Good. I generally dislike squashes and consider them a waste of time as a good-ass wrassling enjoyer.

They're not a waste of time, though, as it indicates clear power levels / helps focus the audience on certain people to watch out for. It may not be necessary for you, but a lot of viewers need to be actively told / indicated to who the up and comers are and who's a threat etc.

If everyone is getting competitive matches and everyone looks good, it dilutes / spreads the fans out and can (potentially) lessen the impact of a wrestler.

I know there are people that liked Dark and Elevation and those were filled with squashes. I very rarely watched it for that reason 😆. It's fine if people like it though, just not for me. Watch what you want to watch.

Sure but I'm not worried about all that. I just wanna watch fun matches. 🤘

…(I agree with the 411 review. 😬)

I liked Mina/Anna, the closing angle, Willow's promo, and the gauntlet match once I figured out what was going on and Will came in.

-Mox and Hobbs wasn't good even before the injury.

-Didn't like how they handled Swerve. Wish they'd given him a mic. At least they're doing it on Saturday.

-Didn't like Jericho's performance. Liked Big Bill.

-First time I'm interested in the Best Friends in forever, but that was a weird choice to start the show.

-Sound issues made the show a bit annoying to watch at times. Wish I'd heard what Deeb said.

Rampage and Collision look good.

I just realized I didn't see a stormbreaker from Ospreay at Dynasty nor Dynamite. I like that finisher.

Also I think Fletcher is amazing and if you haven't checked out his ROH matches recently you're missing out. It's just a shame that he keeps booked as a loser lol. At this point they should start calling it the Don Callis Failures.

Also super hot take here but I just never really thought Hobbs was very good to begin with. I want to enjoy his work but I just think it's become increasingly apparent that he's not as skilled as those he's in the ring with very often. Same with Wardlow. And that goes double for Hook especially.
I do hope he's okay though because it looked like he was in a ton of pain there :(.
