Being from the writer of SOMA and Amnesia: The Dark Descent is what has me the most intrigued.

I don't know, I see it and the first thing that comes to my mind is not AitD but RE2-Remake clone. It lacks visual personality everywhere, let's wait and see, I guess it won't be worse than Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare.

"Go beyond imagination through a complex psychological story written by cult screenwriter Mikael Hedberg, author of SOMA and Amnesia"

That's very interesting. Hope it's good. It's nice to see so many horror games coming out.

So why is every new Alone in the Dark game so grim? The first ones, especially 2 and 3 were kind of cheesy in some regards which I really loved.

I think it's going to be an adventure oriented game with horror elements and not a clone of anything, bah at least I hope so. Considering of course what Alone In the Dark was like and also the writer (Soma, Amnesia).

I think it's interesting that video games have a reputation for bad writing, but are almost always better written than their film adaptations. Usually by a mile.

Part of the original's charm is the super blocky, detail-free creeps haunting the mansion. That adds to the feeling of dread. There's a weird purple octopus blob thing sitting in a bath tub!

Would have preferred a non American character to be honest and set in Europe or elsewhere. Though nice to see it being revived.

I see there're city sections, that's already new so i guess it will be a drastic reimaigining.
The original is short so i understand the need for more content.

From the writer of SOMA huh? Immediately interested!

Also, getting huge Evil Within vibes from this, which is awesome.

I'm one of the few people who enjoyed Alone in the Dark Inferno on PS3. So inventive. The inventory being on the character's body, the way you could move objects with the analogue sticks and interact with fire. Unfortunately there are the driving sections that suck. And the story was non sense but at least the mysteries were interesting.

Well I might've been interested. I've no nostalgia for the originals, or the first attempt at a reboot for the PS2. I did like the second 360 reboot for its ambition, although it ended up being more cool ideas than adept execution. And then there was that Illumination calamity, or whatever it was called, that tried to ride the co-op trend. After that one you would expect Alone in the Dark to have remained that way forever.

So this is somewhat of a surprise. Presumably this will go back more to its roots and be more of a Resident Evil thing. Personally I think it would be a better idea for it to go to hell, where it and any other games by THQ belong. I'm not gonna say I'm boycotting this game, because I don't think I'd be interested in spending money on it anyway, but I'll be avoiding it nonetheless.

Is the Dreamcast game any good?
Kind of like the description of this one. I'll looking closely to this

Looking good! Here's hoping it captures that unease of that original game.

Didn't age well but at the time it was quite unnerving.

The 2008 game had so much potential but they bit more than they could chew. Also, God tier soundtrack!

Yeah, that game is one of the most "kitchen sink" titles I've ever played—there was just so many different things going on there.

100% right about that soundtrack too, really great stuff!

The original was extremely Lovecraft-y. They even almost got the Call of Cthulhu license for it, but ended up using that for another game (Shadow of the Comet). It's still basically just serial numbers filed off Lovecraft stuff.

It's in the series DNA.

Sort of. Only the first one had any real Lovecraft stuff in it. 2 had zombie pirates, 3 had zombie cowboys, New Nightmare had.. I dunno, monsters and Native American mythology, I think? And then the 2008 game had shadow demon monsters and Lucifer. I hope this new one goes back to the Lovecraft stuff (and I think it will).

I liked carnby's design in the cancelled remake, a shame they didn't stick with his original look.

Totally expecting this to be janky as hell for some reason, but it's Alone in the Dark + Mikael Hedburg so I'm totally on board if they manage to pull off a good, atmospheric, psychological horror game with decent storytelling.

Also, I can't believe we're getting so many third-person horror games again. What an exciting time!

Ah! I somehow missed the mention of Doom Jazz in the OP. If it's anything like this, I'm totally in

Cool. Only Alone in the Dark I played was the 2008 game. The fire effects were pretty neat, that is the only nice things I can say.

I'm very interested!!!

Glad to see they acknowledge the existence of Emily Hartwood. This remake sounds promising.

The conspiracy stuff sounds lifted from The New Nightmare. Let's see how that goes...

I'm not really a fan of Derceto turned into an asylum. I think the spooky haunted mansion worked well enough on its own.

Overall I'm happy. May Alone in the Dark have a proper comeback for once.

Oh my God. Oh my God. The mad lads did it....

It's the zombie chicken...

😂 😂

You know, unlike the original RE or even the SNES Clock Tower I think the enemy designs from AITD are so hard to adapt into modern graphics. The green zombies with yellow eyes and colorful shirts look great in the original game, but with modern graphics they'd look so goofy. So they have to make some changes to make them look scarier.
