Ah yes, affordable cities like Boston, Austin and Portland.

Technically cheaper is the best kind of cheaper.

Moving from NYC to ATL has to be a riot. Depending on where you are living shit shuts down at 6pm

Ah yes Phoenix, I can feel it driving to work. Thanks Cali people for driving up the value of my home by 10% in less than a year.

A nice biased article.

More like: Americans in unaffordable cities are seeking jobs in more affordable cities.

I guess no one would click that though

Nashville prices are outrageous now. I moved from that area about five years ago and the price of housing is so high. The traffic is horrible now and I feel like it's losing its identity. Everytime I go home a place that used to be the hood is now half million dollar homes. It's crazy how quickly and drastically things have changed there.

Spending money to move to a place that is barely more affordable to live in?

Couldn't be me.

PHX isn't really that affordable anymore. Our rent prices are increasing faster than most cities and we have a epidemic homeless problem. It's really sad. :(

in Ahwatukee (PHX) where I live I swear they are going to fill every little plot of land with a new gated housing community until there's nothing left

In 5 years:
"Top 10 American cities that used to be affordable, but aren't anymore! What happened?"

You can still move to a suburb 10-ish miles outside Atlanta and get a two or three-bedroom house for 150-200k.

I kinda expected to see something like Indianapolis, St. Louis, Milwaukee, etc. where having solid experience can get you a decent paying job with very low cost of living.

Feels like people definitely missed the boat with Austin, Portland, and Boston. Nashville is getting ridiculous.

Phoenix house prices has started to rise dramatically because of everyone moving here from L.A. Stahp! I'm trying to buy me a home.

I was telling a friend of mine about this. I used to go to Nashville for a few summers more than 10 years ago and it looks so different now. The number of cranes there for building is crazy. When I was out there last year I could barely recognize the areas.

As someone who lives in Oklahoma, it's surreal to see how things are priced outside of this state. 300-400k is an affordable median house price? LOL

Boston ...... more affordable...?

Massachusetts is affordable if you're in Worcester county, North, and South, but otherwise boston itself is insanely expensive. 1000 sq feet condo in desirable neighborhood routinely runs $800k+

Boston I think has an average rent of like 3000 a month.

I would probably rather sell my internal organs to afford living in New York or California than move to fucking Tennessee, Georgia, or Texas.

isn't Pheonix already a retirement city? Is there that much of a difference in influx?
You're thinking Sun City or Florida.

Phoenix and it's affordable living, amazing winter weather, and good job prospects. The perfect combination for raising families.

Given they're all leaving NY or CA, I can see it. Housing prices in both are a sick joke in the major metro areas; great for people who already own propety, miserable for anyone who doesn't and isn't at least upper-middle class.

I was expecting Raleigh/Durham on that list cause I have noticed a substantial increase in traffic and housing prices here in Durham

Portland and Boston are anything but "cheap".

The state income tax in Oregon is absurdly high.
