imagine waiting for the demon slayer opening to make this video only for it to be the weakest demon slayer OP to date. still good, though. as for this season...

Personally, Sentai's and Wind Breaker's OPs are just far and away the best songs this season.

Never seen a rankings video that was even remotely agreeable. Skipped to top 5 and didn't see Loser Ranger so the rest is invalid :P

It's from sumika so is automatically a bop, been on my Spotify Liked Songs for a bit now!

I'll go through the above vid again tomorrow to catch a few more I might have missed.

Speaking of bops, and Spring releases, 'trapezium' just released in Japan last week, with a song from MAISONdes (from 1:08):

Speaking of OP's with the summer season approaching I'm super curious what they're gonna do for Kinnikuman's. POA is much more manga based but they did bring Akira Kamiya back(albeit in a different role), so I'm super curious if they just call in Akira Kushida for something new(he did 3 of the originals and is still semi-active), do a cover of one of the four previous ones or something else entirely. Tho funny enough Nisei's called back to the first and fourth in its lyrics despite being something new.
For fun, here's the pachinko remake of the og theme(still Akira. But a more recent version)

View: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9SEHo27F7Lo
and the opening for Scramble for the throne(the adaption of the OG manga's final arc that came 3 years after the first Toei anime ended on filler. Not sung by Akira)

View: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bGoD3jG_Pxo

Go fight was used in all the moves and most the games even so wouldn't be surprised if they did a modern cover of that like Tiger mask W did with the OG theme. Guess we'll find out soon enough

'Annoxplosions' are SO lovely! The combination in one project of two FX animation masters; Mr. Anno & Mr. Masuo, that influenced each other since the Studio Graviton days, gave us a lot of amazing cuts. Poor Shōichi Masuo, gone too soon, but his work remains appreciated:

For real! It hit me again in ep 11, when the elf monk puts on his coat. It's not as flashy as those other two examples, but here I was impressed by the details in the way he does is. How he holds it and changes hands and so on. For basically no reason!
Stark's scene had some drama to it and Fern's was very relevant for the plot. But here? He could have put it on in the most simple way possible - or even completely off screen! - yet they put so much thought into it.
Maybe that's their fetish! 😅

Nadeshiko, you created a time paradox!
New dog!

Probably the funniest episode of the show. I never expected to hear the term "food porn" from this show but that's a thing now. Nadeshiko's "gurgling" made me laugh so hard, reminded me of that one scene in Bocchi.

I think Ena got hit the hardest with the redesigns. Omg, the next episode is titled: "The Food Porn Begins!"

Wind Breaker 07
GodDAMN that was brutal. A geta to the head, yeesh 😱
Mikey was the real asshole I see, I wonder what Kame is gonna do, no way he's throwing the match, right? Maybe being the asshole for Mikey broke him.

Salad Bowl 07
Spy x Family mentioned!
"Aren't you currently seeing Gifu Castle?"
"No that's my ex-boyfriend, I'm currently seeing Gujo Hachiman Castle."
This line of dialogue doesn't even surprise me anymore with this show.

This show is so random, now it's horse racing. Really sweet of him to teach his daughter how to gamble.
Brooo, what the fuck are these horse's names. "Biggus Dickus", "Post-Nut Clarity", "Rizz the Bocchi" what the fuck 🤣

Awww, that ending was sweet 🥹

Izutsumi episode!! They finally added Izutsumi to the OP and ED scene too.
Speaking of ED, the song is definitely my favorite ending this season. So so good.

shows I've been keeping up with this season, half-season edition:

Salad Bowl is good. Very comfy very cozy just all around good wacky fun vibes.

Seiyu Radio is good. It's not the best industry dramedy (watch Girlish Number) but it's still doing it for me.

Loser Ranger is good. The adaptation does justice to the already great source material.

Train to the End of the World is great. They pull out a Sega Saturn in the latest episode and play House of the Dead. What else could you possibly want from a show?

Yeah, Salad Bowl was a good surprise. Very entertaining

Other favs for me this season: Wind Breaker, Dungeon Meshi, Sound Euphonium, Kaiju, Yatagarasu, Laid-Back Camp, Loser Ranger, Jellyfishing, etc.

Lots of good stuff for me this season.

Not Shocked by this but very pleased it's confirmed to be happening. For anyone who doesn't know the old Toei anime was in the era where they changed and shifted a bunch of stuff so I'm sure this is both to clean up continuity for fans of that and probably as a light recap for newcomers(hopefully they include his wedding… since the original show basically cut his future wife down into a cameo character even removing her intro arc and the proposal while putting 2 other characters girlfriends into her roles in the major arcs)

The first broadcast of "Kinnikuman: Perfect Origin Arc" will be "episode 0" looking back at famous scenes from the past with new animation.

Perfect Origin Arc begins broadcasting in July, studio: Production I.G

Pony canyon is the distributor(they're a Japanese group that's global. Kinda like VIZ), and they've been doing tweets in English teasing a western release. So it's likely coming west, we just don't know who they licensed it to yet. I'd bet crunchy or Hidive. Crunchy licensed the very weird and niche Snack Busue from PC last season.

Also summer pickups don't really start in earnest for a couple more weeks, both crunchy and Hidive should start announcing a bunch by the first week of next month

Honestly, I don't even like Miyasaka, but mayybe he should stay away from Aoi for his own safety. But even then, I felt a little bad for her since Miyasaka ignored her completely like the ass that he is. He made some great faces this ep tho.

Hanasaku Iroha 14-21
New opening doesn't hurt my ears like the last one.

This show is pretty uneven, some arcs are pretty good (Satsuki stuff, Culture Festival, Field Trip) and some are kinda mid (movie arc, anything with Jiromaru.) I'll probably conclude with "it's alright" at the end of this. It's got its charm tho.

Super Cub 11-12 END
Holy shit, what the fuck was Koguma thinking. Why didn't Shii call her dad? Call 119? Why would you not immediately take her to the hospital???? Why would you have her in the front of your cub when it's cold as shit after she fell into the lake????? What the fuck???
Koguma took the "Super" Cub a little too literally.

Episode 12 was nice and comf, was there an episode before that? I don't remember. I had no idea that Japan had a desert. Shii has a cub now!

That was a great, comfy time. Just gonna go ahead and erase episode 11 from my memory, felt like a fever dream compared to the rest of the series.

lol

It's mostly that, but also

I just didn't like how the show basically says Koguma is worthless without her Cub. Like she's sad and lonely and thinks she's useless until she gets the Cub, and then it becomes her entire identity and she only gets her friends because of her Cub, and the show ends with them indoctrinating another girl into buying a Cub because it implies that she NEEDS one to not only fit in, but to literally be alive because her bike nearly killed her. In some ways this behavior feels indistinguishable from a cult.

Contrast this with Yuru Camp, where the girls have actual personalities and lives outside of camping, don't derive their entire sense of self-worth and identity from camping, and even encounter bumps on the road while camping to show it's not all roses and kittens. Plus they often talk about how to do stuff on the cheap and where it makes sense to cut corners and where it doesn't, so while the show has this fundamental consumerist push towards what can be an expensive hobby, at least they recognize that high school students don't have a lot of spare cash and you don't NEED the super expensive equipment at all. Camping is a thing the girls in Yuru Camp like to do. Koguma IS her Super Cub. She is nothing without it. Worse, she BELIEVES she would be nothing without it.

I get that Super Cub is literally a Honda advertisement, but I don't care why the show exists, I wanted the show to be good. If the advertising gets in the way of it being a good show, I'm not going to call it a good show anyways just because I knew going in that it was an ad.

There, that's my Super Cub rant, I'll shut up now lol

Yooooo, that is completely valid because it's so true. Especially compared to the Laid-Back Camp examples, Koguma and by extension Reiko really have no character outside of their cub.

Saying it's like a cult is soooo true, because nothing in episode 11 makes any goddamn sense unless you believe that a Super cub is the only way to do anything, like Koguma.

You kinda opened my eyes a bit more to this lol. I'm sorry for doubting you 😂

I will say though that if you can set all that stuff aside, it is a cozy show still. And I appreciated some of the stuff they did, like the colour shifts (though because they're in service of you-know-what it can come off as somewhat manipulative as well).

I didn't watch Laid-Back Camp until recently so I didn't have anything to really compare Koguma to before, and just wanted her to basically be kinder to herself, that she doesn't need a motorcycle to make friends or feel more attached to the world and the joys of being in it. But now that I have seen Laid-Back Camp, I basically feel like Rin is everything I wanted Koguma to be.

The color shifts were an amazing touch, probably the best thing about the series (I don't want to believe that it's manipulative 😖). And Koguma's smiles 🥺

Yeah it's still cozy, I could probably come back for a rewatch every now and then (except for episode 11) buuuut, I'd probably rather watch Laid-Back Camp instead.

Rin really is a better written Koguma.

Curious to see what scenes they cover, hopefully broader than just the final fights of each arc(since the only confirmed one so far is the Phoenix man fight). Tho the obvious first real fight to pick would be Suguru versus Robin Mask. The dream tag fight against Neptune man and big the budo feels like an obvious pick considering it's relation to this arcs plot.

Tho for non-tourney arc picks, I'd say the attempted assassination attempt by Bibimba seems like a really major and obvious pick that was never animated. Gotta have at least one of her battles considering how Toei did her dirty

best episode yet had a good enough amount of food ready
groaned at first with the flashback since it meant our girl wouldn't be around but they did such a fun crazy twist on it also her chiming in as though it was a new years program was great !

Laid back 7 (or most of season 3)

I'm okay with the slight drop in quality from seasons 1 and 2, but their eyebrows being over their caps has been bugging me these last few episodes (Not saying it didn't happen before)

All in all, I considered seasons 1 and 2 something special, movie was decent (odd to actually have a plot though), and season 3 is better than not having a season 3.
