Tuesday evening I played as Octane and Lifeline in my solo games. I won one with Octane, and the best I placed with Lifeline was 7th. Octane seems pretty solid because stim can be super clutch to get in and out of gunfights + beating the ring. Lifeline seems like she could be good due to overall faster heals + the health drone & drop pod, and I had several moments where those Lifeline abilities really clutched things up for me but I kept getting killed in bad situations.

Pathfinder doesn't seem quite as good for solos as I thought he might be at first.

Bangalore does seem like she could be clutch with double time, smokes, and her ultimate becoming really useful towards the end of a round.

One thing I definitely noticed was that it seemed like the Flatline could be quite a solid gun choice in Solos due to it not needing a barrel stabilizer, the bullets packing a punch since the gun was buffed, and the higher chances of running up to people who are more weak/exposed than they would be in standard squads.

I do think that the mobility focused characters (& Lifeline) are the prime choices for solo, and that the guns that need fewer attachments to be viable will be the most preferred, like the Flatline.

I'm honestly really tempted to buy a $100 pack of coins so I can pull the lever on this events' packs a few times + have a few stashed for whatever else is coming down the pike. I was actually going to pull the trigger on the largest Apex Coin pack a little while back when they were offering slightly better value for them, and I sort of wish I'd done that now.

Don't do that, you'll get banners and music packs out of the damn RNG boxes and you'll have to spend more to get character skins. This event is terrible because you have to spend at least $140 or $0. I choose to spend $0.

I mean, you are right. It's a terrible, exploitative, shitty practice that shouldn't be rewarded strictly out of ethical principle. But at the same time, I actually quite like all of the items in the event, so paying for 5 - 10 ($35 - $70) packs honestly doesn't seem that bad, especially since I play the game a ton, like Respawn, have supported them since Titanfall, and want them to do well.

I've actually not bought any Apex Packs in the game so far. I have bought Apex Coins, but I've spent them all on the direct purchase items in the store (bought the $60 pack & have coins left over after buying 2 skins).

There's no way in hell am I ponying up the money necessary to get all of the items, no doubt. And the Bloodhound heirloom is a fucking farce/insulting, but I'm sure they'll have plenty of whales out there that will bite.

Same. I'll open my 2 free lootboxes that I'll (hopefully) get through grinding enough, and then be done with it. This event is such a huge letdown. The Apex Elite one was so much better, we had a lot of stuff we could get thanks to our time invested into the game/event, and also exclusive skins that you actually could buy right away. I suppose they were disappointed with the sales of those skins though, hence why they changed the system entirely to make it 100 times worse.

What was wrong with those skins, was the price, which was still a bit overpriced for what they were. Like any cosmetics in Apex, they have always been vastly overpriced from the very beginning, especially considering 85% of them look ugly. It isn't the lack of lootboxes that makes people not spend their coin, and I hope they'll finally get that.

If I don't have an R99 in solos I basically can't win. That gun is just too good.

Also I had a mirage daily to get to top 3. Played him and Solo and... he's good? lmao. Got my first solo win with him.

I don't think the event is that crazy bad. Sure a pack is a little pricey but it's not going to stop people from buying it if they want something and have the cash for it. I like most of the skins in the new event and may buy a pack or two if I don't feel like doing the challenges to completion. I'm not worried if I get the heirloom or not and don't know why people seem to focus on if you want to buy a pack you need to suddenly spend hundreds of dollars. Not everyone is trying for the heirloom. The amount people spent on leveling the DotA compendiums make this seem tame. Even for that dead game they still pull in crazy prize pools.

The store also seems to be moving towards something better with an actual shopping option. They just need to give the ability to spend some red coins within it. I also like how the crown coins can convert to crafting materials if you don't use them.

You realize that unless you get lucky, it's likely you'd have to buy multiple packs to get the skin(s) you want? You get one item per box and there's 24 possible items you can get. Without even taking the heirloom into consideration, the pricing sucks ass.

I don't give a shit what they do with the Heirloom, but the method and cost for getting these skins is absolutely absurd.

I would have honestly paid close to $20 for a single character skin, because this pack is amazing, but no way in hell am I rolling the $7 dice in the hopes that I get what I want.

I get that.. it's a loot box and that's how they work. It's a gamble and some people don't mind that.

That's the issue isn't it? Taken at it's base level no one would make a rational decision and not pay cash outright for something as opposed to 'gamble' for it where the odds are against you and you will most likely pay much more.

Those that would rather have the gamble are probably in it for the adrenaline rush, thus the gambling aspect is the prime thing they are selling...I think you know where I am going with this one.

Doesn't change things... Don't like it since it's expensive then don't buy it. They don't have to offer items outside of loot boxes. It will not be the only nor the last game to do this and have items exclusive behind a loot box system. I'm sure other items will be out that will wow people and may fall into a structure where you can just purchase it directly.

A good example if you want to compare this to gambling. I go to a casino and the minimums are insanely high. I have the option to deal with it and play or say no and wait for them to possibly come down. If the tables are full then the casino isn't dropping those minimums and I'll just not play. In Apex their is other items to purchase outside this event if you want a straight buy or cheaper option.

If at the end of this event we find people bought and paid then you can argue it's immoral or disgusting pricing but the fact remains people bought into it. If they determine it was the right pricing and it met expectations then I think you see where this is going..

Gambling has strict control and regulation to the point its banned in several states in the US, this has none.

What's gonna happen here? Nothing, we are 1/4th of the way through the event and the think pieces have been written.

But you would think a company that already got burner with lootboxes once before would know better. Or hip onto the fact that if countries already banned them its probably not a good look to double down on them. Or the fact for a certain part of the fanbase its so unpopular they trick the system into thinking they live in Belgium.

Saying 'well u dont have to buy it if u dont want it!' is as late stage capitalism as it gets. Even in the US that loves the free market has strict controls in place, all this is doing is hastening external regulation to come in. Which is funny considering they threw it in a game that just had to put up a white flag for a televised tourney since videogame violence is being used as a scapegoat.

Its a shitty practice; there are plenty of other less shitty ways to get your fanbase to pay for dlc

Pathfinder's welcome voice line is "You're welcome, I love you too!"

<3

I love that they added those bits of interactive dialogues to say "you're welcome" to "thanks you" lines. It's sweet.
As well as the other banter you get on clicking on the banter button (used to be down pad button on mine), it's a nice touch really, I love it.

Also, it should be said but: I hate the Gauntlet. With passion.

Just get the kills and move on imo. You can hot drop and probably knock that challenge out in 20 minutes max. Less if you're lucky. Use Gibralter.

As a Lifeline main, I've gotta say her underwhelming late game skill set is definitely magnified in solos. Once you pick up a purple armor, you're just playing a solider class in most situations with no teammates to help, etc.

That said, I did win my Lifeline solo by care packaging the final circle before it closed and using it for my approach cover. You just gotta make the best out of what you've got.

Lifeline is only good to get into a firefight with someone, dip out, pop a shield, and get back in before the other person can heal.

dropped into a hot zone, both teammates got downed right away, I down one of their attackers but I run out of ammo, basically run around and avoid the enemy until I can sneak in and get their banners (and punch and down a person lol) and successfully respawned them

we didn't do particularly great after that but I felt real cool

Yeah, getting a feel for the cadence of enemy healing and exploiting it with fast heal is the biggest hurdle to get over with Lifeline's ability set. Being keenly aware of that timing is a major component to improving in the game with any hero, IMO. Playing her a ton definitely helped me get better.

Just really hard to use that to your advantage in the final circle of a solo game.

I've always dropped a lineline package for cover/distraction but yeah its not much. Maybe drop a DOC to get a little extra health juice that might be the tipping point

First match of the day, I am inside a building with only two doors as an entrance. No audio both on the door opening or the footsteps, so he sneaks up on me and I die. Great start.

And now an unshielded enemy swallows 150 damage at the start without dying. This game is fucking broken tbh.

I mean, either the game is displaying numbers wrong or something was clearly up there. 3 sniper shots for a total of 150+ damage, no shield or anything as we were at the beginning and the guy failed to pick anything up.

Why not stop playing? I'm on PS4 so maybe the Xbox version is totally broken I wouldn't know. I do know that I don't experience a fraction of the issues you post on. It seems to be more of an annoying experience for you than of any joy. Why not just take a break until season 3 and see if it gets better for you?

'cause when the game is good, it's really good. It just sucks that there's a lot of annoying things inbetween. I don't expect to win every round, I die a lot due to my mistakes and such, but when the game clearly has its faults (eg. the other match where the opponent made no sound opening the door and running inside a building) it's just baffling. I usually rant immediately after a match here then start another one. Through the good and the bad it's still my go-to multiplayer game right now.

Sorry if some of my posts come off as whiny, I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with this game sometimes. Insanely satisfying when everything falls into place, frustrating when it doesn't, extremely frustrating when it doesn't (at least partially) because of some bug that should have been fixed months ago.

Half a year after release, you buy second season pass, you are matched with... 0 teammates. You die. You lose ranked points. But if you had 2 shitty teammates, that died and left the game, you wouldn't.

I'm so pissed at simple things that would only take... Someone to sit and play the fucking game to notice.

It's a f2p game but since they have a season pass they should be sure that stuff actually work and is balanced. Not to say that servers should work 99% of the time instead of... 33%?

Just quit playing the game. Don't get me wrong, it's super fun, but after investing hundreds of hours into it, including spending a fair amount of money (bought both Season Passes, the founder pack and two bundles of loot packs, in other words more than the cost of a retail game), and getting barely anything of worth due to absolutely horrendous RnG luck, and also still having to put up with constant crashes, glitches, starting games with missing team mates and all the rest, all for the same old shit in terms of gameplay that barely changes (essentially the same map for half a year now), I've simply had enough.

The cosmetics are pretty much the only reward or worthwhile goal there is, and when RnG is as bad as it is, and this new Iron Crown monetisation is as insipid as it is, it's too much for me to stomach or support. The last thing I want is to support something that might normalise this sort of awful gambling and ridiculous pricing. I'd much rather just pay retail for the game and not have to deal with all this awful RnG, grinding, monetisation etc.

Hell, I even grinded out for the 25,000 damage Iron Crown loot crate you get for free, and wtf do I get for it after all that time investment? Some crafting material and an Octane banner pose, my least used character. Nope. I'm done.

Games need progression and reward, and given I've spent as much money as I have, I'm sorry but the rewards and content need to be so much better, more polished, reliable and less egregiously priced or packaged than they are or have been.

Respawn ultimately produced a super fun and well made BR game, but the after support, pricing, content, updates and gambling elements have all just been terrible.

Way to screw it up, Respawn.

I dropped into runoff, picked up an eva. A nearby Watson picks up a PK and a blue shield. I manage to kill him, by the skin of my teeth.

Of course, he sends me an unpleasant message on PSN.

With that said, this is the first time I've ever received a death threat via text chat in a game.

I came second in the game, I actually sent him a screenshot of the match result. Tried to include that screen in the twitter clips but picked the wrong one and got the dashboard instead.

and that is why I no longer accept messages from randoms anymore

shame too, I used to occasionally get complements from teammates playing overwatch but that stopped after a while and then I only got shitty messages
enough was enough, it's not worth keeping those channels open to deal with people's nonsense

Just to note, the reason I typed 'lol y' to him was because I was still trying to fight people in the game. So I accidentally hit enter on a half complete sentence, hence my responses to him not making a lot of sense/being typed very quickly lol.

That happens all the time in fighting games. Just treat it as fan mail.

It's common that people swear at me and insult me in messages, but I think it crosses the line when you're putting out threats of physical violence. Whether with realistic intent, or not, it's disgusting.

I get a tonne of hate mail on Apex and I agree that it happens all the time in fighting games, but I've never, ever had anyone tell me that they were going to come and kill me, etc. It's beyond toxic and bad mannered at that point, it's actually a serious criminal offence.

You simply shouldn't be allowed to play with other people if you're going to threaten and insult them like that.

I reported him three times. Once for threats of physical violence, once for offensive slurs (particularly how he used the word retard), and once for general offensive language.

I'm disliking really starting to dislike events in games. I don't mind solos, but these limited time challenges are the worst. It's weird how the end of season 1 event felt rewarding and invigorating to play, but this one feels like the worst chore ever. 25 Top 5's over 14 days and it's only part 2 of 4 which unlocks a banner badge. Fuck that.
