Maybe it's dropping on Game Pass? This has happened with some other games where the Steam and Windows Store versions were different because the Windows Store version was in Game Pass.

This is a strange release. Certainly not the console "definitive edition" face I remember.

That's the PS4/Xbone version where they updated her model, right? Always thought the original looked better.

Someone ripped the PS4 model/textures and ported them to PC years ago. It's somewhat buggy and only supports the default costume, so this new version is welcome.

It's been so long, other than Lara's face being tweaked what were the major differences from the original 2013 game and definitive edition?

This is interesting, I always liked the look of the PS4 version better. Hopefully it's released on other store front soon.

This is actually my favorite from the trilogy, I wouldn't mind picking it up again.

As it's a shared store ID with the Xbox One version, if you owned it on there you can now install it on PC also.

Very strange release timing but hey, I'll take it to go with the er... 3 other ways I own this game already.

I guess it's gonna show up on Gamepass, and they did a new port based on the Xbox version for cross-plat compatibility? It wouldn't be the first time that's happened.

It also happened with the first Evil Within. Which is an especially annoying case because the version on there has considerably better performance and a handful of new gameplay features.

Just read elsewhere that this is completely free, as long as you own the console version. Game pass not required.

Well, the Steam version has the original Lara face model which is the best face since it shows emotion, the updated face in the MS store version uses the new Lara face model which has dead eyes.

It's definitely coming to game pass if they bothered to port it. The entire reboot series seems to be getting slowly added back to the service

Better lighting, textures, more and denser foliage, sub surface scattering for skin and foliage, better hair rendering (as it's using TressFX 2), various environmental effects like wind simulation that cause dynamic movement in foliage/trees (original version had completely static foliage/trees)

I have install buttons in both the Xbox site and MS Store app. The former states it as a Game Pass title as I don't own it.

Why did they update her face? I prefer the original. Were they trying to make her look more like a real life model? Or less so?

I like the original face and lighting better. So they can keep it. I quite enjoy this game, so I hope they never replace the original on Steam. If they add this "new" version, I hope they do it as a separate release.

Hopefully this means we might be getting current gen ports re-release of the Survivor Trilogy.

It's cross buy with Xbox and can be downloaded on PC if you already own it or got it from Games with Gold.

Saves do not transfer from the Xbox version though.

I was like "It had a Definitive Edition?!"

Then I saw those dead eyes and expressionless face full of makeup, which helped me remember that time.

Definitive....Lmao. I'll stick with the Steam version.

I remember watching video comparisons where they showed that some facial expression animations are just missing on the DE version.

Oh, the new face is missing emotion? I only played it on PS3 and it was ages ago. Had a friend go through Definitive Edition recently and I noticed some weird things like her hair doesn't get stained with blood while in the blood pool, she just has perfectly clean hair in there.

But there were other elements that was clearly improved from the original model, so a mixed bag at best.

OG Lara has all the emotion in her eyes. I felt so connected and engaged playing. New Lara is just dead inside. Hated it. I was surprised they were ok with the face downgrading.

I get what they were going for, she does look more like Camilla Luddington in the new version, but the compromises of bringing that to the modified older engine put it in Uncanny Valley.

It actually looks less like her actress. I think they tried to make it closer to the CG model (which in my impression is too babydolled).
