Growing up, The 80s was "about 20 years ago". In the 2000s of course.

But to this day, the 80s are STILL about 20 years ago. Like subconsciously. After a second or two the math starts matching, and my heart catches up to my head

I run into this issue even though I was born well into the 90s because I watched so many damn old movies as a kid on DVD and VHS that 80s films were drilled into my head as 'roughly 20+ years ago' lol.

Reminds me my grandfather looked mortified when I told him 1973 was 50 years ago. I think all generations struggle eventually with this haha.

80s were 30 years ago.
90s were 20 years ago.
For me.
Born early 90 so I don't think I'm in THAT much denial.

I was born in 84 and I couldn't tell you what it was like to grow up in the 80s. It's the 90s for me.

OP I literally am discussing hearing aid options with my parents. I officially got old today.

And yes the 80s was yesterday.

No, I've made it a point to keep time in perspective through various projects: Top 10 movies starting in 1980, a document listing events starting in 1986, a My Life in Music playlist, and keeping track of decade anniversaries for movies.

1984 is clearly 40 years ago.

Not remotely and I have a hard time relating to people that experience this kind of time distortion. It seems virtually ubiquitous that people think "Mario from 20 years ago" was the N64 when in reality it was the GameCube, and I just don't get why people can't adjust their timelines as time goes on.

Not upset or knocking people, I just can't relate.

Yes. As a big movie guy, I find it difficult to wrap my head around.

Like it'll be the 40th anniversary of Back to the Future next year... But I remember buying the 50th anniversary edition of North by Northwest on Blu-ray. Classic films I can get being "old". But 80s films onwards don't feel that old.

The last ten years feel like one single year. Despite all the advancements in science and tech, I barely feel any difference.
