I'm torn on which I'll get at launch. By year 2 I'll have both, though. I love what Xbox has done second half of this gen and I'm expecting great things, but I can't miss out on a Sony's fantastic games.

I'll be getting the PS5 as soon as I can.

Hopefully I will be able to get the XSEX eventually. I've never owned an Xbox before but their push to making their first party games better is making me interested.

It was always Xbox for me because of Halo. I was probably going to eventually get a ps5 too if it ran multiplatform games better, but now I see no reason to as none of their exclusives interest me either.

None at the moment.

Every Microsoft game will be on pc so no reason to get an Xbox ever again.

Playstation 5 looks super underwhelming right now, and the buthchered BC support makes it hard to invest in its ecosystem.

Series X day one

PS5 day one too but I am waiting for that real PS5 reveal (features/games/price/etc...) to be 100% sure

The PS5 is an easy choice for me, like the PS4 was this generation.

I like PC the best and I also like Sony/PS exclusives. I play multiplatform/Microsoft games on PC and the PS5 will be for the unique content on that system, which I'm sure will be amazing. The massive bump in power over the PS4 will result in some of the best looking games on the market from Sony's first party. Even though PC is my preferred platform, some of my favorite games were exclusive to the PS4. I don't see anything changing for me in terms of platforms.

I'm curently on a fairly old PC, but the next one I buy will eat XBX for breakfast.

The more things change, the more they stay the same :)

Currently leaning towards the Xbox as the Xbox Gamepass is absolutely killer and the way Microsoft handles backwards compatibility is very interesting. I often still think about getting an X when I see the way certain old games get enhanced. Also, the probable advantage they have in power is nice.

Though I still haven't seen enough obviously. But if Microsoft keeps it up with Gamepass it would be a hard sell to stick with Sony.

Xbox Series X. PS5 "BC" is awful and shameful, and I'm done with PlayStation because of it. If my whole PS4 library worked on PS5 that would be a different story, but there is no reason for me to stay in their ecosystem now aside from a handful of exclusives (this is why they should've cared more about this feature than they did). I'd rather be in an ecosystem that values and rewards my investment in it.

MS doesn't do full BC either btw. Sony were always going to play catch up in this area.

PS5 day one. Unless sony goes fully PC It'll always be PlayStation + PC + Nintendo for all the games.

Series X day 1. PS5 Day 1 if there is a sony first party game I am into...if not...the day one comes out.

Both systems seem pretty awesome and only fanboys and console warriors are trying to say one is better than the other. I am interested in the form factor and cooling solution in ps5...hope it is as solid as series x.

what are you talking about? PS5's BC for PS4 games will be nigh on 100%. it's the boosted mode that won't be. the same way the PRO's boost mode for PS4 games isn't.

unless you're talking about PS1/2/3 not being supported (that we know of) in which case i guess that's reasonable.

I'd wait for the games. But if I had to get one with the information so far. I'll be flipping back to Xbox. And in 4 years when spiderman 2 comes out, I'll get a used ps5

Probably both although it will depend on a couple of factors. #1 being the state of the world given Covid-19.

We don't know that at all. Only 100 (actually less) games have been confirmed to work as of now. There is no confirmation of a separate Boost Mode. You should check the thread on PS5 again, Cerny's wording definitely does not suggest what you are saying.

All Xbox One and One X games will play on XSX from Day 1 tho.
Many of them further upgraded and with Auto HDR.
On top of this there are the curated lists of X360 and OG Xbox BC games, which will also gain enhancements and Auto HDR.

An hugely different BC support compared to PS5.

Another big important thing many are not even talking about is the full Xbox One Accessories and Pheripherals support also on XSX from Day 1.

PS5 definitely. Could get a Series X at some point but I believe the PS5 will have enough games for me to play.

I voted PS5 down the line but I said that about PS4 and still got one Day One. I'm going to try and wait down the line but I've been Day One for PS2, PS3 and PS4. It makes little sense as the really awesome games come later but that shiny new thing you know. I vote Playstation as I've been playing games on them since the PS1 and have enjoyed myself thoroughly and always, so far, can depend on Sony and Other Devs/Pubs to put out great games on them. It's always about the games for me as tech talk goes over my head. Going on past enjoyment of games on a platform from the past - I'm PS5. Will likely get an XS later if their endeavours pay off from the studios they bought.

PS5. I'm pretty much locked into the ecosystem now and I much prefer their approach to content. Oh, and looking forward to PSVR2 too.

Aiming to grab both day one as usual. Finances might look completely different by autumn in the current climate but that's the plan.

I mean, at this point I'd only be purchasing a PS5 for exclusives and it's looking like PS games are trickling (we'll see if the trend continues) out to PC (my main platform.

It also depends on price. I've got 2 PS4's, if I could trade them in and pay under $200 I might very well do it sooner rather than later.

Should be a Poll answer - IDK yet, I need to see it in action/all details to come out.

PS5. Going to buy it Day1.

I am a little bit more impressed by the hardware the Series X went with, but my gut feeling tells me that thanks to the hard work of extremely talented developers the PS5 exclusive games will still have the edge in terms of visual fidelity. There is a good chance that Third Party games down the line will look slightly better on the Series X especially when they add RayTracing, but by that time I will probably have upgraded to a Navi 3 graphics card given how impressive RDNA2 already seems to be.

Still the consoles are incredibly close. Much closer than PS4 <-> Xbox One and PS4 Pro <-> Xbox One X and to be fair as a person who usually owns a pretty decent gaming PC it is hard to make a case to not go with the PS5.
I was never one to focus on the actual hardware too much, though very important indeed to have a machine that is decently capable, other factors are more my focus point and it looks like both machines will be significantly better than what anyone could've hoped for given the surprise progress AMD made with their latest technologies so I expect next gen to start at a much higher baseline compared to where we were in 2013.

Also I have a library of digital and physical PS4 games and would love to carry them over.

Xbox. I'm all about those ps5 exclusives, but I'd be willing to take a risk on ms, as they're doing everything right at this point, and the hardware is there.

I have a PC so only will get a console when there are games on them that I can't play on PC. Won't be buying any of them day 1. If I didn't have a PC then I'd go with the XSX easily. Since I do have a PC there will be little reason for me to get an Xbox so I'll probably get a PS5 at some point down the line.

The only exclusive Playstation games I can see myself buying would be:

Bloodborne 2 (if it happens) and/or any other Playstation exclusive by From Software.

Persona 6 - which is a long long time away.

The Last of Us Part 3 - if it happens and most likely that'll be towards the end of the generation again.

The rest I'm not interested in: Gran Turismo, God of War, Horizon, Uncharted etc. I'm done with them. Of course there will be new IPs but it'll take a lot to convince me of them.

I plan to get both eventually but PS5 day 1. Sony has far more games/series from 1st party that interests me unlike MS.

I won't surprise anyone by saying PS5, but I'll say 'tentatively' day one. It depends how the year shakes out. I didn't get a PS4 day one, so that absolute need to have something immediately isn't as strong as it once was for me... unless something very compelling comes along.

But, PS5, sooner rather than later I imagine. For the games I know they'll have coming, for PSVR(2). The box itself seems to have some nice 'space' for the first parties to explore beyond the cpu/gpu increases, which could be an exciting avenue for differentiation for them in a way that wasn't quite so strong on PS4. I'm interested in the controller tech also, moreover the evolution toward the PSVR2 controller.

Both but I'll let the day 1 beta testers have their go first and get them when there are worthwhile games on both consoles

I not committing to either console when i don't know the launch line ups, I'll probably hold off until there is a killer app I really want to play, and buy the console that it's on, then wait a year or 2 for the slim version of the other console.

i think it suggests exactly what i'm saying.

"Running PS4 and PS4 Pro titles at boosted frequencies as also added complexity. The boost is truly massive this time around and some game code just can't handle it. Testing has to be done on a title by title basis. Results are excellent, though. We recently took a look at the top 100 Playstation 4 titles as ranked by playtime and we're expecting almost all of them to playable at launch on Playstation 5."

the PS5 will effectively neuter itself to play PS4 games flawlessly, the same way the PRO does.
if you try to boost them it can cause issues with some titles...again, the same way the PRO can.

PS5 day one. Top of the line exclusives and VR. No matter how annoyed I am with Sony and their piss-poor management as of late, their approach to the industry I understand is the best for most players. Services, GaaS , streaming and stuff like that is a no-go for me. Not with my money.

I'll get a PS5 eventually. The XSX looks good but I have a great computer so I just dont need their machine since they release all games on PC.

Series X down the line (likely first good sale or bundle). On paper it seems the better system but we still have to wait to see what real world performance is like. Still it has Gamepass which is the best thing in gaming and that's my system seller

Actually, if it exists, my path will likely be Lockhart close to launch with a PS5 Pro (assuming there are enough exclusives that are interesting to me) later while still using Lockhart as an XCloud machine.

For me it's always been about exclusive games in my area of taste, not console power.

I'm willing to give Xbox a fair hearing, but right now my belief is that Sony will be more likely to satisfy that criteria (as they were in this current generation).

PS5 Pro

I've decided to buy non-Nintendo consoles on a mid-generation cycle. Get slightly better hardware and start with a backlog of games.

PS5 day one. Easy call. And if my preferences the past three generations are anything to go by, Xbox Series X never. I don't even have time to play all the PS games I want, there's no reason for me to drop dollars on another console especially considering the historical difference in Japanese content.

Other than an Atari, I've never owned a single non-Japanese gaming machine.

Unless the software situation changes drastically overnight (which admittedly could happen), PS5 is day one. Not sure when I'll cop a XSX or even if I will. I need to see a lot more from MS on the software front, especially Japanese support.

Xbox, both because they've made better choices with the hardware and because the strides they've taken this gen for their ecosystem. Sony has its exclusives but they don't do much for me anymore. I'm not hyped for their biggest games, and that's not really a good place to be.
