The PC version of Assassin's Creed Odyssey will also include unique features not found in the console versions, such as benchmark tools to test the different graphics settings, and a toggle option for dynamic resolution rendering to uncap the framerate.

It looks like that game is again designed for 30FPS so you will need really good PC to reach 60FPS.

i hope it's run Better than assassin's creed origins
Origins runs well. Stable 30fps at 900p with medium to high graphics on my notebook with a 1050 Ti; 60fps in most areas with high settings and ~1500p res on a desktop GTX 1070 and i5 4960. Sure, if you just crank everything up to the max (where you won't even notice a visual difference between high and ultra, but lose at least 10% fps per such setting), performance seems not that great. Unity did run badly, Origins don't.

I liked the benchmark tools and preview pictures of the graphics settings in Origins. Every PC game with that scaleability should have it.

Shouldn't be much of a surprise that it sounds like it'll perform about as well as Origins.

Work
Why are they targeting 30FPS with this configs? Like, I get it, 30FPS is playable and I'll live with it if I have to but I feel like we're past that now.

Oh man my i7 3770 is the recommended one in this and in other games now. I wonder when it will become the minimum.

I had a terrible time trying to hit a somewhat stable 60 FPS on Origins with a 1070/7600k at 1440p.

Unless we find out the Far Cry 5 team worked on this port (which was very well optimized), I'll definitely get this one on console

Might get this just to flex my PC and apparently Origins was pretty good

Next gen for sure.

Games are increasingly CPU-bound, especially at the higher end. They're being built for core count now, and there's just no way for a 4-core system to keep up.

It makes no sense.

Why a massive increase in CPU when 1080p > 4k is literally just resolution?

If the two are using the exact same settings, exact same FPS target, then the CPU is supposed to do the exact same amount of work.

I hope it doesn't have the same BSOD bug as origins with AMD FX 8350 , even though it was listed as recommended in both

I got 1080p60 with very few dips below on my 1070 with mostly high settings and a couple of medium thrown in. Wonder if I can do that again with this one?

That last bit has to be some sort of communication error. Tying the frame rate cap to the dynamic resolution setting wouldn't make any sense whatsoever. I assume what they actually mean is that there'll be separate options that give you control over both.

I would imagine a 4K frame needs more processing by the CPU than a full HD frame, which is then rendered by the GPU.

I think so. Origin wasn't easy to hit 60fps@3440x1440. Certainly took a 1080ti. 4k and 60fps may not be possible without tweaking. I was hoping that like Far Cry 5 it would support Sli. Origin does hit my CPU. [email protected] will hit 100% in major towns, 65% outside.

Yeah to my knowledge it's not possible to run Origins at 1080p60 in Alexandria with any rig. I imagine there's going to be at least one heavily populated area in Odyssey with similarly terrible performance.

I fall somewhere between recommended and 4K, so hopefully that means 1080p/60! I was able to achieve that in Origins (other than a tiny bit of stuttering for the first few minutes and then perfectly smooth from then onward).

Yeah this confuses me. Maybe someone in the know like Durante (turns on Durante signal) can chime in.

I can see on consoles this being an issue, but mostly of memory bandwidth since it's shared between GPU and CPU, but on on PC.

ya i just think its funny when developers use uncapped framerate and resolution as some example of how its a "ground up" pc version and not a port

I was surprised about the specs until I saw the frame rate target is 30fps. I'm guessing you will need a 8700k or better to keep up 60 fps at 1440p and above.

I somewhat exceed the recommended for 1080p/30 - got double the ram and a 6700k - so here's hoping I can manage 60fps with most settings still on high.

Might be possible. Origins likes 8 or more threads so you are good on the cpu front. Still need a lot of GPU horsepower though to hit that minimum 60fps number on high looking at the hardware unboxed video on the topic:
