Astroneer has the worst tutorial of any game I have ever played

So I'm tying to complete the tutorial for the MS rewards punch card and the game wants me to print a small generator, however it doesn't tell me what I need to actually print the generator in the first place...


This is the worst tutorial I have ever seen, it tells you what you have to do but doesn't actually tell you what you need in order to do it, I'm thinking it's not worth it for 100 reward points.

It doesn't help that the controls are absolutely woeful either.

What other games have bad tutorials that make you quit never to return

Xenoblade 2's tutorials are the worst. There is one very early on that explains in detail about Super Moves and how to use them, only to conclude with "you will unlock them later :)" which means 2 hours later

Remember Driver on the PSone? They gave you a list of objectives to complete in the tutorial and then you had a time limits on top of it. It's notorious for making people quit right off the bat.

Looking at in on Youtube, presuming it's the same part you're on, it doesn't seem too hard.

Though it might be easier on kbam and the genre certainly tends to rely on "you'be probably played a bunch of other survival/building/crafting games before, right?"

hah. i played this on gamepass like a week ago. I got to a part where i need to make more tethers. Which i had already successfully done at the beginning. But couldn't figure out how to do it again. And gave up. Uninstalled

You need compound. White stuff. The translucent symbol at the bottom of your backpack tells you what you need when you're on the item.

Doesn't matter now but your backpack. Need the right material which was compound.

Thankfully I am done, there's an easy achievement for simply changing suit, 30 seconds and it's over.

I got stuck on that a few months back when I was trying it last time, I gave up, I've only gone back because I need an achievement in this game

Yeah I feel the same. I fired this up one month to do a Game Pass Quest and spent way too long on that crap tutorial.

Driver gets brought up a lot, and that's deserved. But it's worth mentioning that the game has a Training section in its main menu, which includes a demonstration of all the skills you're expected to learn. A lot of people never noticed that, and then got stuck when the game asked them to do a "Slalom" or something.

The time limit is also a lot less strict than it looks. Some of the objectives are things like "speed" and "brake test" and "handbrake", and you can do all of things and more at the same time. The time limit, in practice, just makes people panic. That's probably the biggest problem with the whole thing.

It would have been a lot better if it had asked you to do all those things one at a time, and with less time pressure.

I general dislike all tutorials which are embedded into the actual story. Why are devs doing, replaying such games is a nightmare.

Was so looking forward to this but the tutorial does indeed suck. Might try it again if they revamp it But for now, other games are calling me.

It's terrible. I had to restart because I thought I got stuck - it was seemingly asking for resources that needed a soil processor but I didn't have one. Turned out you just needed ch was readily available in the ground a tutorial so I didn't know that.

I thought I was the only one. Haven't touched the game since I quit the tutorial out of frustration. :/

Want to return to the game at some point, though, and I'll probably watch a video tutorial instead.

Yeah it's terrible. I fumbled through it and then got to a point where I couldn't go on. Swiftly got deleted. Thankfully got an achievement to complete the reward beforehand.

X3: Terran Conflict is pretty bad too. The first couple of times I tried it, I lost track of the little spaceship that was giving me the tutorial. I think I did finish the tutorial once, but then I was still so overwhelmed by everything that I just uninstalled the game.
