I quite liked Lost Osysseys. Big massive battle, as a main character you are fighting some cool looking shit, and then a meteorite falls and wipes out everyone.

It's called Soul Edge, and yes, this is the best

The CG itself is dated, but what they did with it is perfect. The shots in all the vignettes are perfect. The music is perfect.

Funny because I JUST booted this yesterday in Duckstation after many many many years wondering how dated the -once unanimously considered the hypest- intro would feel.

And it gave me goosebumps.
The music was never forgotten of course, but what impressed me was how incredibly well it conveys characters' personality, establishes a background and tells a story for each one in mere seconds.
Fantastic job.

Yeah I'd go along with ffvii. Intro and first part of the game was amazing.

The Last of Us 1 had one of the most effective intros. Unless you mean like prerendered/cutscene.
I like the Dark Souls intros which are just like "here's some crazy shit you'll see"
