If you didn't grow up with games that predated speech samples, it's hard to convey just how remarkable they were when you first heard them. For me it's definitely the original Castle Wolfenstein on the Apple ][ that haunts my memory. Playing late at night and suddenly hearing "Halt! SS!" got the adrenaline flowing - a full two years before Sinistar showed up in arcades. Admittedly it was a year after Berzerk's synthesized voice made an appearance ("coin detected in pocket") but the sampled speech could convey more than its fairly neutral synthesized counterpart.
The voice lines in Mischief Makers were always hilarious, and these always stuck in my head aside from "Shake Shake"

I had a friend that did nearly all the sounds perfectly with his mouth, even the famous ones that werent just voices, like the catapults and the eagles.
I dont have any nostaglia for the english dub, as the game is form Spaina dn had a great spanish dub, but the german soldiers voice samples are still iconic.
