I used to be a big fan, I have like 5 of their CDs. I just heard One Headlight a couple days ago, and it's still good.

After hearing their later output I am convinced that Bob wrote most of the first record. It's so good.

God Says Nothing Back is still my favorite song of theirs, but they've got a bunch of great songs.

I still love the arrangement and production on "One Headlight" - it's real easy for two guitars, organ, and vocals to crowd the same space, but everything is so tasteful and atmospheric instead. A nice example of putting the song first. Nothing else from them ever grabbed me like that one.

You know who was really great about this (and some of the stuff from your previous thread)? The Cranberries. To wit:

Beautiful, crisp recordings; Dolores had a phenomenal sense of dynamics, and was just terrific about mixing in harmonies and counter-melodies; the guitarist doesn't overplay and knew exactly how to use the right effects to color each song; the drummer likewise had a real musicality to his playing and wasn't just some timekeeper, the bassist slips in some subtle melodies, etc. They don't even have an issue with the orchestral elements turning into sonic mush. I liked them at the time in the 90s and have only grown to appreciate them more and more as the years have passed. This stuff oozes wistful vibes in the best way.
