For those who haven't seen it, in this episode Mr. Krabs goes out for a night on the town with SpongeBob and Patrick which ends with them raiding Mr's Krab's own mothers' underwear.

Like how the hell did this get past censors lol? I'm aware a lot of children's cartoons have hidden jokes for adults, but those are usually subtle and things that kids wouldn't pick up on but this was pretty blatant. Even as a kid when watching this episode I was like "wtf??? are they seriously doing this?"

I'm not offended or upset at the episode or anything, I'm just genuinely surprised that Nickelodeon had no problem with that episode lol.

Isn't the whole joke that a panty raid is lame and not edgy at all? Why wouldn't it get past the censors, this is tame as hell compared to other stuff that gets put into kid's cartoons.

Are you feeling it now?

I know. I think it's more of the fact that it was even brought up at all. No lie watching this episode was the first time I ever heard the term. Like I was telling myself, it can mean what I think it meant.

You never heard of a panty raid? That was like an 80s teen movie staple it seems like, classic prank trope.

Is it about Deep Down and Capcom's failed graphic engine?

Squidward contemplating committing suicide is one of my favorite darker jokes in the show.

I think the funniest and most disturbing part is they were raiding Mr. Krab's mom's panties and the clear implication that it wasn't the first time.

Isn't there a scene in one of the newer episodes where they make a suicide joke about Squidward putting his head in the oven or something?

Edit: It's from the episode "Are You Happy Now?". There's also a joke about him hanging himself.

I mean, exactly. The then-audience for the show was mainly pre-teens born in the early to mid 90s. So they wouldn't have a knowledge of 70s/80s teen movies.

I know this ep was the first I'd heard the term. But I saw the original example s of the trope not long after. And even the spongebob version never seemed pervy to me, just silly

"Spongebob doesn't have hair... Or does he?"

The sponge is full of dirty jokes

Like the time he was watching undersea porn and got caught

no
I remember the big Spongebob thing that stuck out to me as a kid was the joke about hijacking in the balloon episode.

Granted, that was mostly because it came out within months of 9/11, where I actually learned what a hijacking was. The episode where Spongebob implicates a serial killer named The Strangler sticks out even more as an adult.
