10May 2021Resident Evil VillagePS4, PS5, Xbox One, XSX, PC, DL6.10

RE3R and DMC5 are just outside the top10. RE3R is at 5.20m and DMC5 is at 5m. The Street Fighter 30th anniversary collection is also capcom best selling collection with 2.2m units. Funny enough, thats on par with vanilla mvc3.

I also think there is a good chance SFV surpass SF2 since it basically did 100k units in 3 months.

Whats also interesting, is that every single AAA RE Engine game has atleast reached 5m units :
RE7 :10.8m
RE2R : 9.6m
MHR : 9m
RE8 : 6.1m
RE3R : 5.2m
DMC5 : 5m

I'm not sure if I'll ever understand why RE7 sold so well. That's crazy. Anyway, so well deserved for Capcom. Glad they're doing well.

It is interesting after all that has been said about Street Fighter, V, it will probably be the best selling Street Fighter. Obviously part of that is how long they have supported it for, but still, I find it interesting.

Can't believe DMC is officially Capcom's best selling series of all time ever. We did it boys.

I'll never understand why they don't group Resi 5, 6, etc. between the PS3 and PS4 gens. They're the same games just with improved settings.

For a lot of the same reasons RE4 at the time did. It was a soft reboot after they had more or less worn out the previous approach, this time to more of a focus on some actual horror over action, it had great word of mouth, and people wanted to see what the fuss was about. Clearly it paid off.

Mega Man 11 juuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust shy of MM2's total, should eventually over take it I'd imagine. Looking at the top list - its nice to see how so many of its recent releases are far and away their best selling releases... RE7 especially is super impressive and it seems RE8 is going to increase a bit more before its sails tail off. I'm interested to see how the next lot of Capcom releases over the next year or two perform - RE4 Id imagine should be gigantic.

I love these sales figures, I wish every company did what Capcom and Nintendo does. I love that we can see how well Mega Man did compared to other Mega Mans, and how well each Resident Evil is doing. It doesn't matter really, but it is fascinating to see the business side of things and how sometimes the numbers match up with what we think, and how often they completely don't.

I'm going to be very sad when the PS3 version of RE5 leaves the top 10 in a few years.

Even aside from the long support, it's always just been one SKU.

SF4, Super SF4, and Ultra SF4 added up are more than SF5. The genre in general was prone to splitting off like that instead of building on a single title.

Of course, that is what I partially meant by the long support; they didn't spin it off. But ultimately, however maligned it may have been, it is still going to push close to 7m units once all is said and done.

Why can't they group all their older titles's SKU under a single title. Kinda always paints the wrong picture looking at these charts.

But i guess its better to show investors that their newer games are doing way better.

Kinda crazy how well Rise has done just on Switch and PC. It'll probably end up beating out everything but World just on the two consoles.

Rise is doing really well still.
Also pretty commendable that Capcom stuck it out with SFV after the initial disappointed in sales. DLC sales must have been well from the get go.

Definitely World. That title is awakening of the franchise whose fan bases were adamant thar their beloved game is most suitable for handheld and it would never do well on home consoles. Boy were they so wrong.
A few people was not their "fan base". Or you're misrepresenting people annoyed that the games were dismissed because they were on a handheld or people who weren't fans at all telling others why their game is actually bad. There were way more people saying that MH would do better on more powerful systems since the Wii.

I thought their only Platinum games were the Viewtiful Joe games, Okami, and God Hand? Though I guess that was when they were still Clover.

I imagine it sold well on sales, benefited by word of mouth and general excitement about RE being good again

I think every game that sells well does so on the basis of sales.

Even aside from the long support, it's always just been one SKU.

SF4, Super SF4, and Ultra SF4 added up are more than SF5. The genre in general was prone to splitting off like that instead of building on a single title.

SFIV and Super SFIV are distinct games. They are not merely separate SKUs. SFIV (2009) and Super SFIV had completely different trophy/achievement and save data, even on the same platform. And while you could upgrade Super SFIV with DLC all the way up to Ultra SFIV, you couldn't do that at all with SFIV (2009). To upgrade, you had to buy the second SKU. You had to start a new save file. You had to start a new trophy/achievement list.

With SFV, this was not the case. If you bought SFV in 2016 and never bought anything else, you currently own the most recent version of the game. Your save data is the same. Your trophy list is the same. All you need is an internet connection and you're able to play SFV's definitive edition with your day 1 copy.

In this real way, SFIV's unit sales are bloated because they do not necessarily represent a larger install base. Now this is anecdotal of course, but I personally bought no less than five SFIV SKUs over its life span. Two for PS3 (vanilla and Super), two for 360, and one for PS4. I didn't even enjoy SFIV that much, but I wanted to stay current on all my platforms and that's what it costed. Meanwhile, I've bought 1 copy of SFV and I've played that with the same save and trophy data across two generations of consoles.

This is without even getting into the fact that SFV was a console exclusive and SFIV has SKUs for four discrete console platforms (PS3, PS4, 360, 3DS). SFV's 6+ million units sold vs. SFIV's 9+ million units sold doesn't seem like a large gap when you take it all into consideration.

TL;DR: It's really not an apples to apples comparison.

We were thirsty for P.T. and the RE7 demo had people losing their minds over hidden secrets that ended up being nothing -like the dummy finger-. It had so much potential, but then the Baker house ended up being the coolest part of the game and the rest was just whatever.

SF30th being the 5th best selling Capcom fighting game SKU is wild.

1. Street Fighter II (SNES)
2. Street Fighter V
3. Street Fighter II Turbo
4. Street Fighter IV
5. Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection
6. Marvel vs. Capcom 3
7. Super Street Fighter II (SNES)
8. Super Street Fighter IV
9. Street Fighter x Tekken
10. Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite

Should out to SFxT and MvCI too. Flops outselling the faves.
