Ahead of full-year fiscal report, Capcom has revised net sales and operating income forecast upwards, due to better-than-expected performance of software sales.

ii. Reason for the revision

In our core Digital Contents business, in addition to Street Fighter 6, the latest title in the Street Fighter series, being met with broad acclaim globally, Dragons Dogma 2 was released in the fourth quarter and has performed favorably. Further, sales grew for catalog titles consisting primarily of past titles from major series due to their steady popularity. Altogether, this has led us to expect earnings for this business to exceed our plan.
Dragon's Dogma was a cool game, so very nice to see it met/exceeded internal expectations. Looking forward to seeing more in the future.

Glad they are happy with DD2! Can't imagine what a DD3 would look like but I'm glad there's a decent chance we're going to find out!

Hope this means they'll actually dedicate resources towards fixing up DD2 for it to actually reach the potential many hoped it would. And that the next title would actually release in an undeniably completed state. DD2 absolutely could have been a MHW-style breakout hit if the launch actually stuck the landing.

I see they're too modest to say this success is all thanks to the Apollo Justice trilogy, so I'll say it for them. Thank you Apollo Justice trilogy!

Nah, good for DD2 for being such a success. It's great that the franchise gained a new life, and it went above and beyond what they estimated.

I have yet to play the sequel myself but as a huuge fan of the original DD, I'm extremely glad to see they're happy with DD2 sales. Hopefully that means lots of patches and performance fixes, maybe some big DLC, and a whole ass DD3 at some point.

Yup, Capcom got it.
Multiplat release + Back catalog releases.

Although they should be careful about some releases lack of polish.

I absolutely loved my 100 hours with Dragon's Dogma 2 on PC. But even then I wonder what could have been with a more polished and finished game. Maybe the third time's the charm?

A truly polished Dragon's Dogma 3 would probably break the space-time continuum. Because could such a singularly magnificent entity truly exist?

Love Capcom games. They've made/published some of my favorites for decades. Every system in every generation has had great Capcom games.

Good for Capcom, but they should continue to re-release old content:
- Megaman Legends Collection
- Breath of Fire Collection
- Miles Collection + Layton VS Phoenix
- Asura's Wrath with all DLC on board
- Classic horrors collection (Glass Rose, Clock Tower, Haunting Ground)
- Maximo collection
- Namco x Capcom + Project x Zone, etc

And please give all needed money to Shu Takumi!

All I can say and or confirm in this time is that

CAPCOM

IS

BAAAACK
I'm petitioning the US government to change Groundhog's Day to Okabe's Day. Instead of using a groundhog to determine an early spring, we will hold up Okabe and see if he pronounces the return of Capcom.

Now if only Darkstalkers would return...

The thing I want to see improved in DD3 (besides the obvious stuff like enemy variety) is more side quests when exploring. Ideally, every settlement or distinct location should have some sort of quest tied to it. Other than that, I am 90 hours in and I love DD2.

I still haven't gone back to DD2 after the first week. The game was such a drag that I completely bailed on it to focus on Ronin instead.

I hope if they do another one, it's wildly different than 2. I just really can't think of a single design choice they made that wound up making me feel like the game was improved over 1. Real bummer for me.

They literally said "Dragons Dogma 2 was released in the fourth quarter and has performed favorably"

Sounds like it did well lol

As I have mentioned repeatedly in all the Square Enix sales threads over the past year: there are various levels of success. Something can do "well" but not "do well", if that makes sense. Favorably is a different timbre of response than "exceeded expectations", for example.

Gamers have really fixated on this idea that games are either HIT or BOMBA and that's not how reality works.

Hasn't DD2 sold like 2m already? Compared to DD1, which took heavy discounts and 10 years to hit 7m, that's good.

It's an acquired taste for sure. Many of the design choices rely on the player being on board with them and willingly accepting some amount of inconvenience and annoyance for a payoff later on. The limited fast travel for example will be a deal breaker for many people. It's not too dissimilar to soulslikes in that regard, although the annoyances that those ask you to accept are of a different nature.

For me the fast travel sucks, but it's less of an issue than the vocations just feeling boring. The smaller number of actions the player has access to at any given time makes combat feel painfully rote, especially when combined with how completely lacking in interesting variation the combat encounters are.

So DD2 did well, could be doing better of course but that's a promising start. Still, I wanna see if they can improve performance more as its still not "great". But Im glad its at least hitting expectations or whatever, that's good news.

Capcom's back catalogue also continues to kick ass, its probably its most powerful tool... their games tend to have really long legs, and do well over long periods of time (especially stuff like SF, RE and now MH worldwide). Glad that they are doing better than expected, hope this means we hear about more stuff they have coming soon (I mean, Im practically expecting a RE9 announcement within the next year or so). Pity Exoprimal didnt do all that well... the latest update (Yellow Devil) really has made it into a terrific game, a real under rated gem.
