This seems plausible, it's something I even thought about when Microsoft started with this acquisition. The way I read it was that to try and force users to use Xbox console. Now, in the case that they were to go that route, the windows store, unless they fix the mess that it is, they're not going to be very successful at pulling on users, and it's going to do the opposite of instead increasing revenue/MAUs/GP subs, whatever metric they decide to use at the time.
The Windows Store now isn't as bad as it was before. Besides, Origin before wasn't that good either. If you ask me, Microsoft is in a better position now to make their games exclusive to their marketplace garden on PC.
