Based off the 1st and 5th amendments? That seems pretty weak.
The argument from the White House is paper-thin but don't they have the right to revoke press passes as they see fit? Just seems like allot of hot air from CNN.
Is it violating his first amendment rights?
They have a right to report the news, do they have a right to access to the White House? They've always had to be vetted and credentialed, presumably the executive branch can withhold access to anyone they want.
I'm talking about how you said "this backfired on them". As far as I can tell CNN still has pretty ridiculously high ratings and things like this are not going to hurt their ratings in the slightest, so I'm just trying to understand how that qualifies as "backfiring".
Fox, ESPN and TBS as the top 3 tells me all I need to know about the US lol.I'm not saying anything has backfired or not, but they aren't do as well as people may think.

You may as well strip out the non-news channels there, for purpose of this discussion. Also it would be helpful to compare with the numbers of say 2015. AFAIK, Fox has always been way out on top, and I'd have thought CNN would be doing worse than those numbers you show, considering how many of his dumb cult members buy his bs about "fake news".I'm not saying anything has backfired or not but they aren't do as well as people think.

Can't they just allow CNN reporters in but ignore them? That seems like it would burn much more than not being allowed in at all.
Doesn't matter. At this point they could abolish the free press and his supporters would celebrate it.I hope this isn't a trap.
I think CNN has every right to sue but I also kinda think Trump / Sanders want this fight. it lets them point to the press as adversaries with the redcap chuds.

Why 2015?I can agree with that.
Edit:
In 2015
CNN
They were #2 in ratings in Dec.
- Primetime (Mon-Sun): 712,000 Total Viewers / 235,000 A25-54
- Total Day (Mon-Sun): 490,000 Total Viewers / 149,000 A25-54
Thanks for the data. Wow so CNN is up from 490K daily in 2015 to 689K now. I did not expect that. I guess his cult members were never watching it back then either. How was Fox doing at the same time in 2015?I can agree with that.

I asked for 2015 because it was before the whole "fake news" smearing of the network by POTUS, which appears to have influenced many people in the US.

That's when Sheepinator asked for and also, thats when Trump announced his candidacy.

3 of the top 5 all carried significant sports coverage. The other two were Fox News and MSNBC.Fox, ESPN and TBS as the top 3 tells me all I need to know about the US lol.
That certainly makes sense, although the White House cited him touching someone as the reason, not his coverage. I mean, yeah, there is no question they're lying, but officially, they didn't revoke it to encroach on freedom of the press at all.
WH changes its explanation - no more mention of placing hands on an intern

So what exactly does this tell you about the US? That people like baseball?
I haven't looked at the demographics so I could be way off here, but there are probably a few factors to consider, and yes I realize I'm responding to your generality with my own:The top 1 is FOX News, a right wing propaganda channel and a very obvious one at that.
American people like baseball, racism and Trump sounds more like an appropriate generalization.
One of the main reasons Fox is number 1 is that it's pretty much the only right wing channel. The left is split all over the place since there are options abound. The top 1 is FOX News, a right wing propaganda channel and a very obvious one at that.

Even if we bump up Trump's base and give him 50% of the population, that's 50% of the country watching a single channel versus the other 50% choosing among CNN/MSNBC/CBS/CSPAN etc. Obviously individual channel viewership is going to be lower on that side.

Agree.I think this just says more about Fox News watchers vs. Cord Cutters really.
Interesting...I don't think they really have any merit with the 1st amendment, but the 5th I could definitely see that.

How does this sort of thing normally work in the past?
Does the White House's current administration approve/disapprove press-passes or does being part of a news network gain you access?
If the former, does CNN have a case here?
What's stopping Cheeto from not calling Acosta or any other CNN reporter if he's reinstated
and defamation
Factually, yeah.. but not to the right they aren't. As you've said, in their view, anyone who isn't them are liberals. The only actual left leaning network is NBC. Cnn/cspan/cbs/ABC are all politically neutral. It's just Republicans have moved so far to the right that the non partisan networks, which report on crazy things like "facts", are now considered to be liberal
