Thought I replied to this before.

PSP is also supported, though the Zero english TL currently out there has some major crash bugs when it comes to cooking and casino mini-games. Zerker's edit will hopefully get those ironed out since they plan to support PSP too. But a lot of their focus will be on PC.
Those crashes only happen on the original hardware, it doesn't crash when you play on PPSSPP for some reason.

Oh cool, maybe I could go with the PSP version for both, then. I was planning on playing Ao on PPSSPP anyway, could avoid messing around with my PC's language settings if I went with the PSP version for Zero too.

Now I'm getting excited lol. I think I'll look around for PSP copies tonight.

e: where can I download the current best TLs for both Zero and Ao?

Also bumping this. For PSP versions, obviously.

I finished Azure!

The final sequence is very odd. I feel as though the game suddenly just drops a massive bombshell that Crossbell becomes occupied by Erebonia in a couple of sentences and then just ends. I haven't played CS2 yet, although given this game came out beforehand I feel that shouldn't matter too much.

That ending is one of my few gripes with Azure (the other being dumb harem stuff which I don't want to get into). I think that Zero, oddly enough, has a more conclusive ending than its sequel.

Yeah, I would have to agree. There's some excellent storytelling in Azure, easily some of the best in the series. Unfortunately, that ending sequence fell completely flat for me, and it's hard to articulate why. There's something very... Offhanded about it, to have this incredibly optimistic and almost saccharine finale in which the characters commit to getting over their barriers before suddenly an ending text crawl that says "and then the empire invaded, and things were very bad. The end, see you later in Cold Steel, maybe."

It Is more like - ao no kiseki ending spoiler
Empire invaded but the cast you met was able to free crossbell in few years but we decided not to show It for now. Lol

I hope to see how in the whole cold steel saga...

It does end on a positive note though by showing their fight against the invasion through pictures and music, concluding in showing Crossbell independent again in the final picture. Personally I kind of enjoy how they portray all that just through music and a few CG pictures but I can understand the gripes about it being abrupt and minimalistic.

Also the entire point to the final confrontation scene was how they were intentionally choosing a thorny path fraught with suffering just for the sake of principle so it's not really all that saccharin. The ending is just what they said was going to happen in the final scene, the natural result of their choice. If anything the way they're able to fight and win their independence despite how hopeless the circumstances seem in the final scene makes the ending overall more optimistic than the final confrontation scene.

Waiting for Zerker's translation is driving me crazy lol. I bought the PC version from DLsite ages ago, I'm so tempted to play it with that subpar translation.

Subpar is a very....generous way to describe Zero's current loc. If we're making comparisons if Zero's current TL is subpar, then Ys VIII's original loc would actually classify as good.

I can see that. I think my problem with it is just how underemphasised it all is, to the point I'm not even sure why it's included other than to make gestures towards the future of the series. My issue then becomes that it both gives away far too much about that future, without any of the emotional legwork the series generally prides itself on. The Azure/Zero story is over, and then there's this bizarre, compacted addendum that lingers.

I don't think the issue with it is that it's abrupt, although I don't care for the storytelling style in the epilogue or the inconclusive nature of the ending. My problem is that it summarizes a surprising amount of events, content that could have been an entire game of its own, and this content eventually became parts of three different Cold Steel games. I wouldn't mind the Crossbell story continuing in the next arc so much, but the Azure ending basically tells the player how things end in Crossbell. So I view the Azure ending as bizarrely shortsighted. What's the point of having an extended epilogue like that if the story is going to be continued and expanded upon in later games?

Crossbell definitely deserves better than MTL styled NPCs, but if you feel the need to be there day one for CS3 I'm not gonna stop you.
It fine...if people want to wait for
1 a tba zerker editing fantranslation first (2019 ?)
2a tba edited fantranslation ao (2023?)
Or
3 a better tba xseed/ nisa zero+ao professional translation (2099?)

before jumping to cs3(2019 release date) i have no problem, It Is their time and their gaming opportunities.

Meanwhile i will play cs3 and hopefully cs4. Than i will decide what to do in the future seeing next falcom moves.
i wonder, by the time next kiseki titles gets announced, what will the people waiting for better zero/ao translation have played meanwhile?

The best trails game is "Get friends into the series and watch them suffer". It has plenty of replay value!
(But nah there are plenty of JRPGs that demand my attention over games that haven't had a proper translation yet. Still need to give Tales a go...)

It Is ok , if they do not want to play new kiseki titles

Zwei 2's got the stellar character writing and NPC work of your typical Kiseki game. Also has a localization that's as good as those games too. Everyone should play Zwei 2.

As good as CS3 looks, my life also doesn't revolve around waiting for the next Kiseki. Plenty of other good games out there I can play too, like Utawarerumono. Everyone should play that too.

Now is a better time than ever for all of you to play Xanadu Next. Become the Harlech Strangerocker you were always meant to be. And say hello to the cute giant spider.

To be fair, the current TL of Zero is bad but very readable. Like I'm currently midway through Chapter 3 and am having a blast despite the stilted word choices and messy NPC dialogue. The characters still shine through despite the TL and I've only been genuinely confused once or twice so far.

(plus the bad NPC dialogue means I don't feel the compulsory need to talk to every NPC anymore which quickens the pacing considerably, ugh the translators their MINDS)

Oooh man so much happened, everything we learned in the Infernal Palace blew my mind...from Zephyr's leader still alive somehow...to how friggin scary Mcburn can be. (loved his exchange with Laura's father) of course the final fight in that area was...pretty epic, I was hoping they would have a fight involving Rean and Crow against another threat and my wish was granted, what a fight too, unfortunately seems Crow lost his life.. (I don't buy it!)

As I suspected, Osborne didn't die, it was alluded earlier in the game and anyway he's far too clever to die to a sniper shot, I do not know how he survived but I suppose we'll learn about in CSIII. Rean being his son took me by surprise, I honestly didn't see THAT coming.

Once that was done, the game allowed me to play as Lloyd Banning and Rixia Mao over in Crossbell...naturally all these namedrops didn't ring a bell to me...so i'll need to play Zero and Ao soon, still it was a really fun segment.

Now I'm in the epilogue, had a fight against Class I and of course we couldn't end the game without the old schoolhouse acting up, everyone is in my team now and I mean EVERYONE, looks like the end is near but I shall finish it later tonight.

Finished Ao Chapter 2.

Finally getting to the point where the game's story is tying into Cold Steel's. Was nice to actually see the trade conference I've heard so much about, and to see Kloe and Olivier again. The conference also gave me some insight into what Chancellor Osborne is planning. And I learned more about what's going in Calvard; I imagine the immigration thing will be a major plot point in the upcoming games that take place there.

And then, of course, the terrorist attack happened. So I guess the leader of the Imperial terrorists must have been Gideon? I guess if I'd played this before Cold Steel 1, I would have already had some idea of what was going to happen in it.

All in all, it was a great chapter. I really enjoyed it.

And as people have said, the Ao translation is not bad, thankfully. I've run into a few typos here and there, and there are some spots that could use some editing, but on the whole it is waaaay better than the Zero one.

I don't know if you've finished the Cold Steel series but if you haven't just ignore this.

Considering that it turns out that most of the events shown at the end of Ao aren't actually shown within the Cold Steel series(as in, they're abruptly summarized in a few text boxes at the end of CS4.) I don't feel it's so bad. It's the Crossbell arc and ending with Crossbell's independence is a nice way to close out. If Cold Steel did go into more detail about these events and this ending ruined that, I would agree, but it just brushed over them just as briefly so what we see is basically what we're ever going to get anyway.

Trails of Cold Steel 2 Question.
I'm on date 12/23 and I didn't know about recruiting Beryl on 12/15. Can I still recruit her?

Yes but this is your last chance. Talk to her outside one of the shrines.
Also you don't recruit her until later, you need to see a specific event.

Like I said, look for her near one of the Shrines. I can tell you which one if you want. Rosine is still in Celdic for now.

Yes please! I just did one and gathering everyone is something I want to do on my first play threw. I gave up on the blue chest from pure laziness. I'll hey those on my second play threw before Trails of Cold Steel 3 launches.

Ran into a bug in Ao Intermission.

So the game allowed me to enter the Michelam theme park before the event there was actually supposed to start. Once I entered the park, though, the game wouldn't allow me to leave. There were almost no NPCs at all in the park (even though a few phantom NPCs still talk to you despite not being there), and as soon as I did one event, the game acted as though the event at the park was over. Was really weird.

I happened to save there before realizing I couldn't leave, but thankfully I keep multiple saves, so I was able to escape it by reloading an earlier save. Would have been annoyed if I had missed a few scenes because of this bug.

Trails of Cold Steel II

*faces monster with around 136,000 HP*

Rean first turn uses it to summon
Valimar

Gets a critical hit for around 52,000. Does around 28,000 damage next turn, does around 10,000 the final turn. Battles goes back to normal.

Monster heals him self and raises defense with attack. HP around 116,000.

Thinks to myself. Ugh one of these HP sponges.

(How this small snipet is how it played out in my mind after it happened)

Presses triangle for Laura S-Scraft

Laura: oh Rean, you done playing with your toys? (Imagined it)

Goes one to do 130,000 damage overkill not a critical. OHKO I know I don't have the optimum builds for my character so I know that's not the glass ceiling for Laura damage wise but woo wee.

I have the character enemies can't hit and I have the mini Hulk that hasn't raged out yet. I can only imagine what I can do with Emma once I figure out a build for her.

Well, you've seen Laura already so... imagine THAT, but with arts.

But seriously, despite the brokeness of Laura or Emma, Rean gets the cake in my opinion. Sure, he can't be the one hit wonder that those two can be, but man does he makes up for it, if you use gladiator accesories, his 100CP craft, and overdrive. He's insanely good. He recovers CP so quickly that having CP batteries like Alisa becomes unnecesary for him, and he's naturally fast, so you barely have to build with speed in mind to overpower the enemies' turns.

Yeesh.. you remember that build? I honestly I want broken AF Laura for when I do my second play threw of it on Nightmare Mode before III launches. I already have Fie at 100% evasive/Delay machine, working on Laura to break her further. I think Emma will do good with Criminal maxed and the strongest offensive Quart I can find. I need to figure something out for Rean.

It's pretty much just a combination of the Tauros Master Quartz, Domination and mostly strength enhancing quartz such as Carnage which penalise you of 150 DEF but gives 150 Str.. By the end of the game Laura had like 2800 str so her second S-break would almost one shot most bosses. For Fie I capped her at like 90% EVA and had her use the Juggler MQ, I don't know if you gave that a shot with her.

Interesting... Rean is the only character I have a hard time coming up with a build. I will give this a try.

If I maxed out Megalift in the Second game will it restore CP as I walk in the over world like in the first game? It's taking forever to max out.

My second play through of the first game was easy because of that.

I didn't put Taurus in her yet. Oh the possibilities. I got Fie at 100% and she almost never gets hit. It's kind of nice.
