RNA virus yes but not a retrovirus (retroviruses will go from RNA > DNA > RNA during its replication cycle)

But yeah, it doesn't seem like it's that complicated of a testing kit once you have the correct primers. Not sure exactly which component is giving them issues.

Yeah, I realized my mistake and corrected it.

I guess if they're using some sort of automated system for pipetting the reagents together, they might have made up the premixes in the wrong concentrations and that mistake got amplified to the whole supply due to the automated process. Might have still worked depending on how bad the screwup was, but them in charge might not have wanted to risk it. Or maybe they got a bad batch of enzyme?
