Eh, why not?

I only played the original for a few hours or so back then. I don't remember why did I lost interest that quickly but I'll find out soon enough, I guess.

I put many hours into the original, alongside the TV show, and it wasn't great. I bought the CE and was super excited after played the alpha and betas, but it didn't live up to it's lofty goals.

I don't get this one. It's just a revamp? But it still involves the TV characters? It's F2P so there's no harm in trying it out I guess.

Thanks for the OT. I just got off playing this on my PS4.

It's same old Defiance I had back on the 360. Runs and looks a bit better now though. Game is pretty average really, but there's fun to be had.

World building and lore is great though, thanks to it being created in tandem with the TV series.

And what a great TV show too. Especially season 2 which really took it to a new level. Shame it got cancelled after 3 seasons, but I'd recommend it to anyone with an interest in Sci Fi. I think it will be looked back on quite fondly in the future. Now I really wanna do a rewatch, shtako.

I actually played the shit out of the vanilla version back when it was a crossover with the SyFy TV show. I thought both the show and game were pretty cool though the promised crossover stuff was lame.

I'll definitly check this out again since it's F2P.

Same here. I had no clue what the show was or anything but I figured I'd give it a go, found the gameplay to be very bland. I'm still a sucker for third person shooters so if they've improved that, I just might stick with it. Thanks OP for the thread. I wouldn't have known about this and I'll give it a try.

Oh shoot, I actually loved Defiance 1. I loved going from place to place destroying things, leveling up weapons, fighting huge world bosses. Gave me a Resistance 2 Co op vibe.

Darn it, such a bad time for me. I'm juggling like 4 games right now, dug in deep with Warframe, and on top of Twitch Prime 21 games thing. I'm going to destroy my monthly data cap for sure, may as well pucker up for whatever they try to do to me.

Resistance 2 co op vibe intensifies!!!!

Gotta love Trion. They take a game people paid for, gut the skill tree and turn it into paid "classes", and then re-launch it as a new game. WTF happened to this company?

I didn't hate the original game, played it for a few hours

If this has a decent feel to it, it'd give it a shot

So, better than Destiny 2?
What is not better than Destiny 2, it sounds like everything is supposedly better, and I would have got it if it released closer to the console launch. I hope it wasn't Luke Smith's doing since he was the director of the story or gameplay, I forget. Liked him from the 1up Show days.

Wait you have to pay for the classes? No way of unlocking it through playing the game? Before I download I better look into this. Thanks.

Oh ok you can unlock them for free. Demolitionist seems to be absent from that vendor though, maybe bought somewhere else.

Any advice on what weapons to go for? Especially early on? Are there any good rewards from specific quests or anything?

Played it on PS3 a long long time ago... and it wasn't super great besides PVP. Is this Free to Play launch a relaunch?

So, since I still have Defiance installed on my PC I booted up both of them and it's literally the same game. Same textures, same models, slightly different lighting. The only difference from the time I made my character to the time I landed in my pod and the game starts is that a pop-up asking me to buy inventory space happened in 2050. Oh, and the fact that all the things I earned or paid for in Defiance are gone in 2050.

Whatever, if you are a console player it might be worth a look. I actually enjoy the game from time to time. If you are playing on PC, though, you might as well stay with the old version until the pull a Secret World and basically force you out.

Nice OT!
I've bought and play the original back when it was active and enjoyed it, haven't had the chance to play the beta of 2050 but I will certainly give it a shot now and see whats up.

It's sort of a remaster and current-gen console re-release of the old one, which is also Free to Play.

I tried the beta but just couldn't deal with the 2007-grade graphics and jank. I can understand some folks being nostalgic but as a new player it's not worth the time, even as f2p.

We had tons of lag during the early access weekend, so I'd expect a pretty laggy experience today with the server gates thrown wide.

The Demolitionist class is currently Founder's Pack-only, and those are going to stop being sold in the very near future.

So far only thing I am seeing different is the graphics update. Which is fine, but I am getting crazy lag on button presses

Well this is a bit embarrassing. I liked the main game, but this version needs time or something. Very laggy, not smooth at all, lots of jumpy traveling maybe due to servers.

I love the stat screen after you finish a event with the top scorers, again Resistance 2 Co-op vibes. Looking forward to this game getting ironed out with the performance.

Serious question: what does this game offer that Warframe does not?

I was really excited about this until I found out it was the exact same game but with a half-baked class system. I played the PC beta and it was indistinguishable from the original

I haven't played a ton of this to elaborate more, but Defiance is an actual open world MMO of sorts whereas Warframe was more about the separate levels until they added an open world space to explore. That said, Defiance has a huge map where you go take quests in the way you do in MMOs and the cool thing I liked about the original is the ambient co-op where if you approach an area on a quest with others nearby, it wouldn't instance them out of your experience so you could still have that co-op experience in an informal manner that was a nice way to handle that. I wouldn't necessarily compare Warframe and Defiance all that much.

That was the big disappointment with Destiny's open world stuff to see everybody else get separated into other instanced than just letting them informally team up for missions.

You mean you liked the original game when it came out along with the TV show?

Yeah original game controlled pretty good as I recall

Yeah the old version. It controlled very good for me, currently I can't put up with the hitching and seeing people short teleport around. I'll wait, and I hope it lives and doesn't fail, I wish it was a newer game though.

What Captain of Outer Space said. It was a big open world with things going on in it all the time. You leveled up gear you found like warframe but you shared events with people out in the world. For example, Warframe open area PoE only have you and your party in it, where Defiance has everyone in the current server or whatever in the map like your usual MMORPG. If you played Guild Wars 2, or Final Fantasy XIV think of the world events/bosses like they appear in those games.

Major differences between Defiance OG and 2050:

The EGO Grid is gone and replaced by classes with class skill trees. Normal players choose one of the four starter classes (Assault, Assassin, Combat Medic and Guardian) at character creation, the rest are available about 1/4 through the plotline. There is also a fifth class, the Demolitionist, which was only available via a Founder's Pack that has now been removed. You have an overall EGO level which tops out at 50, each class tops out at 25. You can switch between unlocked classes at will.

Item Level replaces your EGO Level as your overall power factor. All gear drops with an ilvl, as your ilvl increases higher ilvl items will drop, and that's the major grind.

Weapons have a different upgrade system, instead of gaining weapon XP you use Salvage Parts to upgrade the weapon's level. Green weapons top out at level 10, Blue at 15, Purple at 20, OJ at 25. Each level gives you a bonus point to add to a pool of three bonuses that weapon has, and special abilities unlock at levels 10, 15, 20 and 25. You can reroll each of the weapon's bonus pool abilities once using a special Caerulean Core currency.

BMGs and Infectors are gone. Stims are gone for everyone except the Assault class, which gains access to the Healing Stim. Spikes are gone for everyone except the Combat Medic class, who has access to Protection and a new Revive Spike.

EDIT: Also gone, Charge Blades and Charge Sniper Rifles. They are now only available to the Assassin class as their top-end class skills, and you have to choose between them.

Trion quietly removed the original Founder's Packs this morning and replaced them with two new packs. The first unlocks all four starter classes and gives you cosmetics and boosts for $20. (It's essentially one of the Founder's Packs renamed.) The second is the new Ultimate Class Pack, which will give you access to all the starter classes right now as well as two new classes, Crusader and Engineer, when they're released in Winter 2018. It also gives you $50 worth of Bits, the in-game currency.

That means the Demolitionist is currently unavailable in-game. It'll eventually be unlockable via 1000 Commendations, but probably not before the Crusader and Engineer drop.

I think it was actually just early access to the class, but it's still stupid.

Right, the Demolitionist class will eventually be available in-game, but not for some time. Considering the class actually makes Detonators and Rocket Launchers useful, aside from being the only class with Hatchling Grenades, it's kind of dick to keep it locked away.

Interesting, and oh no infectors were my favorite weapons. Warframe has a infector like character (Saryn) that spread spores and the infections pop like the infectors in this game. I liked killing the enemies with dots and a super fast infector. I will find a new weapon.

It's also 60fps on the 1X
I can't get it to be 60fps steady on PC with it using like 40% of my gpu and hardly any of my CPU (I'm running Black Desert Online at the same time but that hardly takes anything when it's minimized for afk fishing). Most likely a server situation, or it just needs patching. Maybe the console versions are just better.

Ahh, I see, that's not as bad. I still really hate that practice. Skyforge did similar stuff where the purchasable editions would unlock classes that would normally take months to get (that time to unlock was fixed due to weekly caps on progression). I feel like if a game is good enough it doesn't have to rely on practices like that to try and get money from people.

I ended up taking a year + break from Skyforge to accumulate a bigger cap since the caps grew even if you didn't play. They motivated me to not play their game even though I wanted to play it. Good stuff. I never got back into Skyforge, plan failed. They removed the cap at least, but at that point I had so much more to play.

Four times in a row on Xbox1X I get a 'timed out of server' message after the opening cutscene. Made a character and everything

Maybe it's because the game isn't fully downloaded yet, maybe it's just their servers getting hit hard
