The dedication to staying at a locked 60 imposes a performance requirement that no other genre has. So it's disappointing to see DoA6 break that contract without really setting the bar for fighting game graphics.Man that is depressing, surely the devs can do better than this ?
3D Fighting games and their engines have not been all that great this gen. Struggling to hit even 1080p on base machines, struggling to hit 60fps or a weird inbetween where nether performance or visuals are perfect on the mid gen machines.
- Speaking of Soul Calibur, while costume materials indeed look better in this one than in DOA, in no world does Soul Calibur 6 look more impressive globally than DOA6 (or any fighting game this gen), that was a weird nitpick.
.
DOA6 looks much better than SC6 imo but I never really liked the visuals of SC6. I always hated the blurry backgrounds.
Overall it's my favorite 3D fighting game this gen and my favorite DOA yet. Even the music is great. Graphics mode should run fine on Xbox Two.
Yeah, that S performance really is nuts. Just a bad experience on there overall.
- XBX Graphics mode: 35 to 40 FPS. Remarkably jerky. Even on FreeSync, it doesn't feel smooth.
Freesync really does seem to suck below 50hz, maybe TV's should start using G-sync lol. That's probably because freesync doesn't work below 48 hz on the monitors I've seen.

Haven't watched the DF vid yet but while I've never played DOA5 I remember gameplay videos looking good for PS3. But even the DOA6 trailer I watched last week didn't look special or impressive to me.DOA5 looked so good on PS3 that i feel like people dismiss DOA6's visuals as last gen, it doesn't look that bad. though the first trailer for DOA6 did look like DOA5.5.

I will say that most fighting games this generation seem to be optimized well, at least on PC.
Richard has a monitor with a FreeSync range going from 30hz to 144hz which is what was used here. That's probably because freesync doesn't work below 48 hz on the monitors I've seen.
Thanks for the comparison pics. I always liked DOA5's model quality, but had issue with how skin looked so I feel DOA6 is a big improvement in that department. On the topic of visual improvements from DOA5 to DOA6, I made these direct comparisons of Rig's character model in the returning stage "Sweat". Directly compared, and nost just going by memory of how the game looked (especially when its the memory of the already improved PS4 port of DOA5), there are very significant improvements:
Characters are also so much more expressive during fights now.

It's a real theme now I feel.Yeah, that S performance really is nuts. Just a bad experience on there overall.
No. It's a 1440p monitor. It does this with HDMI at 1080p
I wonder why Jan Lee got skipped in the hair treatment. Because JEEZ.Yes, even though they reused the exact same look for many characters from 5 they still pumped more polygons in them for a more rounded look:
More polygons are making the profile (especially the chin) rounder:
The hair (the two weird buns) got significantly more polygons as well:
Since Soul Calibur 6 was mentioned in here, that game did not improve the base models of any of the characters from SC4 or SC5. They have the same low polygon faces, hands, feet etc.
Pro is the best place for performance whores as always!
XBX is also locked 60fps unless you want 4K which isn't available on Pro anyway.
