After 18 years, Shenmue fans will be finally getting another entry in what's one of gaming's most iconic series of all time. Despite it being two of the most ambitious games ever made at the time they came out Shenmue is a niche series nowadays, so at worst you'd expect apathy towards this release from the general public.
However, that's not the case and instead all Shenmue discussions now end up becoming incredibly toxic. The game has been caught in so much crossfire of drama between the THQ Nordic stuff, the Epic vs Steam wars, a lack of transparency regarding refunds, etc. It almost felt like threads about drama involving the game got more attention than threads about the actual game, and that's really sad. Shenmue 3 ever happening is definitely something that nobody with a sane mind ever expected, and yet days from the game's release all you see is people swinging shit at each other with their drive-bys, hot takes and the likes of that. I guess it says something about the gaming community that such a game can cause so much vitrol, when it's one of the best comeback stories in gaming and one we likely won't be seeing again.
