Never heard anyone make a big deal over it. I just view it as all smart phones are cell phones, but not all cell phones are smart phones, and figure these days when you say cell phone most people would just assume you're talking about an Android or iPhone device.
Does it bug you when people still say cellphone over smartphone?

When you want to differentiate between different types of cellphones, I thought it was smart phones vs feature phones. Or dumb phones.

Rewatching Forensic Files, it does kind of bug me they keep saying automobile instead of car.
But no, I'm never bothered by people saying cellphone.
I actually do say " cellular device" when I wanna be cheeky.
Actually that kinda makes sense - retired tech people with long careers tend to develop very specific opinions that they put a lot of energy into defending/pushing.
You should start referring to your phone as your wireless phone or videophone just to fuck with him.

The reason he went into the rant in the first place was when someone said I call it a cellphone lol. Poor guy got dog piled.
Had a friend in Canada almost 20 years ago who worked for a mobile company.
"Fucking Americans calling mobile phones cell phones drives me nuts". Which was weird because another Canadian friend called them cell phones and I knew Americans who said mobile.

Smartphone is the default now and has been for more than a decade. It's the people who have flip phones who need to specify now.

It's a cellphone/mobilephone/just "phone". Smartphone is a specific subtype that might be the vast majority but it's not all. It's also a stupid name at this point.

I've definitely heard cell here in Texas. "Phone" in general is the go-to though.
I've never heard anyone refer to their phone as a smartphone unless they were making a comparison, for example one of their old flip phones.

Why would anyone use the term "smartphone" when they don't make...um...dumb phones anymore? They are just "phones", or "cell phones". I can't remember the last time I saw a "feature phone".
Of course I care, how else will people know I love to stream 4K digital video on my Pixel 6 smartphone via 5G(none of that dreadful 4G stuff) WiFi?

No one in Ireland ever said cell phone, except maybe for some advertising when they first came to prominence in the late 90's - but then again, I don't ever remember seeing any.
