Was going to vote "no", then thought about it for a second and realized that when my young daughters grow up, this kind of thing might matter more for them (which means it matters to me).
This, this, 1000x this. Even if it doesn't matter to you personally, think about how other people may be affected. Thank you for being considerate of others, especially the future generation.
My opinion:
Seems like a very low impact change, I'm not sure of the actual repercussions down the line for representation if devs start switching the default. But since its a very low effort change, they could definitely try. Personally, It doesn't currently bother me as I always try to make myself in games so don't really care about the default.
Sure, it is a little change. But big change doesn't happen in one huge push, it takes a lot of collective small efforts to shape the way a society or group functions, thinks, and operates over time. The idea here is to eventually make it normal to not default to a male character during character creation, which gives players a blank canvas in which they can use to create the vessel in which they will interact with the game's world.

It's okay for us all to have our own view on this, and it's okay to always prefer the default or male character. What's not okay is to dismiss the notion that being forced into a male role, even if for a few seconds, reinforces male dominance and gender inequality in our culture, and could make some gamers uncomfortable (if only for those few seconds). We just want to level the playing field so that more people can enjoy playing games, and I think that considerations like this are a great place to start making changes.
