We're rapidly approaching the 25th Bond film on April 8th, and it's time for a series rewatch. With that I propose a Double-O Rewatch! As ERA, and ITT we'll rewatch the previous 24 movies, one a week, and come back to discuss rankings, best fights, why in the world Madonna was allowed to have a cameo, etc. If you're willing to undertake this task, starting today you have one week to watch Dr. No.

You can come back and discuss the film as soon as you watched it, or participate on the coresponding Sunday but please refrain from discussing anything beyond next week's film as it's entirely possible that some of your ERA brothers and sisters who are a part of this Bond-ing experience could be watching these for the first time. I don't think spoiler alerts are needed for 50+ year old movies, but let's try to keep the discussion on the previous, current, and next film as the thread goes on.

Here's how it will work:

Starting this week, you'll have until Sunday the 31st to watch the first Bond film "Dr. No" and come back to this thread to discuss it. We will also do personal rankings, however, since each Bond is a product of their time we'll only rank the Conerry films against each other, then the Moore films, etc. (before you ask, we will not be skipping Lazenby). I've baked in time for winter break, and have this wrapping up in enough time for people to get properly excited for Bond 25. Wouldn't want anyone being burnt out just before going to see the latest adventure!

Schedule:
9/1: Dr. No
9/8: From Russia With Love
9/15: Goldfinger
9/22: Thunderball
9/29: You Only Live Twice

Time for week two! While discussing Dr. No, don't forget to watch what is arguably the best Bond film out there, it's time to go From Russia With Love!

Bond: Sean Connery
Directed by: Terence Young
Produced by: Harry Saltzman & Albert R. Broccoli
Screenplay by: Richard Maibaum & Berkely Mather
Intro Song: From Russia With Love by Matt Monro
Release date: 10 October 1963
Budget: $2 million
Box office: $79 million

In the film, Bond is sent to assist in the defection of Soviet consulate clerk Tatiana Romanova in Turkey, where SPECTRE plans to avenge Bond's killing of Dr. No.

Fun Fact: This is the first Bond film to have an opening title sequence, and in this film it was accomplished by projecting words onto dancing model's bodies. This was also the first time we've seen Blofeld, though he doesn't look like himself just yet and is only referred to as "Number One".

And now to reply to myself...

I didn't love Dr. No as much as I remember from previous watches. It didn't really feel like a Bond movie, which does make sense. Followed so closely by FRWL, I can see why most people think of that as the "first" one. It really was.
